Korean groups perform at the United Cube Concert, in São Paulo. Beast, G.NA and 4Minute made the public scream and shout their main hits.

Regarding hip swinging/pelvis thrusting/booty shaking, the Korean style k-pop [sic] is breathtaking. More concerned in keeping synchrony and sensuality in the moves, the 4Minute girls, group that opened for the UCC festival, at Espaço das Américas, in São Paulo, this Tuesday (13th), even forgot to lip sync. The focus was, really, on the hips.

Basically, the Brazilian press knows NOTHING and will compare anything to Michael Jackson and whatnot, because that's the only clue they have on pop music whatsoever. See how they compared 4minute to Lady Gaga and Rihanna in that other post... Anyway, the show was awesome!

Singer Brian Joo made a surprise transformation into Lady Gaga for his latest performance on ‘Immortal Song 2‘.

For his performance, Brian wore Lady Gaga’s signature rhinestone-studded sunglasses and a leather jacket. He also brought up back-up female dancers and a rapper, resulting in a stage that electrified the audience.

Afterwards, Jung Hoon Hee gave him a round of applause, saying, “I was able to feel your youth and it was a very exciting stage.” Brian’s colleagues (who were backstage) stated, “It was a fitting stage for Brian” and “It was such a colorful stage”.

Wonder Girls‘ Sunye has been attracting attention online due to the way she calmly handled an irrational fan.

On December 15th, a netizen uploaded an audio file of a conversation recorded between Sunye and a fan at a Wonder Girls’ fan signing. This fan brought up her recent confession of being in a relationship, and said: “Do you know that you going public with your relationship has caused an inconvenience to the group?

Sunye replied, “Do you really think that?” to which the fan retorted, “Yeah, I think you were really short on thought with that decision.

Calmly, Sunye responded, “Can you ask the other members? Because I’m curious myself as to what kind of inconvenience I have made to the group. I don’t think that I created an inconvenience to the members, but I do think that I hurt your feelings. I’m sorry about that.

Netizens complimented Sunye on her smooth handling of an awkward situation. “Why would a fan ask such a thing,” “Sunye’s really kind,” and “She handled it well, just like a leader. It’s good that she held it in,” they said.

The members of A Pink recently held a surprise charity event at a cafe in Seoul.

The girls opened up a ‘one day tea cafe’ where they served visiting fans to raise profits for charity. Though they had a busy promotional schedule, the girls took the time to plan the event themselves to return the love they’ve received from fans all year long.

A Cube Entertainment stated, “The members are still young, but they brought up the idea themselves because they wanted to do good. It’s a small effort, but we hope it warms your heart just a bit.”

The members served baked goods and drinks they prepared themselves, and even auctioned off some of their personal items. All profits made will be donated to a charity.

Such sweet girls. TT

The Gaon Chart has confirmed that T-ara‘s “Roly-Poly” is the most downloaded and streamed song of the year!

According to the number of downloads collected ’til November, “Roly-Poly” beat out Park Myung Soo and G-Dragon‘s “I Cheated” to become the most downloaded digital song of the year.

Roly-Poly” has had over 4 million downloads, while “I Cheated” has 3.6 million and 2NE1‘s “I Am the Best” had 3.43 million. The song not only dominated in digital downloads, but also in the total score for combined streams and mobile downloads.

“I Cheated” was ahead of “Roly-Poly” until October, but consistent sales over November helped give “Roly-Poly” enough of an edge to land at the top.

A representative of Gaon stated, “Usually, song downloads drop after TV promotions are over, but ‘Roly-Poly’ has met with good results and is still seeing consistent sales, which means it’s become a success in the long run.

Core Contents Media added, “The retro concept connected with all age groups, which aids in the song’s long-term success. There are still a lot of people searching up ‘Roly-Poly’ six months after its release.”

South Korean lawmakers called Thursday for strong measures against illegal Chinese fishermen and sturdier safeguards for Coast Guard officers cracking down on them amid public uproar over the death of an officer killed in a bloody clash with violent fishermen.

The officer was fatally stabbed and another was seriously injured on Monday while they clashed with Chinese sailors poaching in South Korea's exclusive economic zone in the Yellow Sea. The incident set off anger among Koreans, with some staging protests in front of the Chinese Embassy.

On Thursday, the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs held a meeting with Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan and the Korea Coast Guard chief to discuss ways to handle provocative Chinese boats and demand appropriate action from Beijing.

Four out of 10 South Koreans seeking to meet relatives in North Korea are in their 80s or over, the government said Thursday, highlighting the urgency of regularly holding reunions of family members separated by the 1950-53 Korean War.

About 128,600 South Koreans have applied for temporary reunions with their loved ones in North Korea, but about 49,300 of them have died, according to the Unification Ministry, which handles inter-Korean affairs.

A survey of more than 66,600 surviving separated family members showed that 43.8 percent of them are in their 80s or over, and 37.3 percent are in their 70s while 13.6 percent are in their 60s.

The survey, conducted between April and November, also found that 44.7 percent wanted to reunite with their parents, wives and husbands, or children in the North, while 44.1 percent hoped to meet with their siblings.

The divided Koreas have held more than a dozen rounds of reunions since a landmark summit in 2000, bringing together more than 21,000 family members who had not seen each other since the war.

South Korea wants to hold regular reunions, though no reunions took place this year amid lingering tensions over the North's deadly attacks on the South last year.

There are no direct means of contact between ordinary civilians of the two countries that remain divided by a heavily fortified border.

YouTube
, currently the largest and most widespread video sharing website, recently announced its newest addition of the ‘K-Pop’ genre in their Music category on December 15th.

‘K-Pop’ is now joining the likes of other popular musical genres such as Pop, Rock, R&B, Rap, Folk, Latin, and more. Furthermore, it is the first country-specific musical genre to be added to the list.

This addition to YouTube is part of a special project with Google, titled ‘Korea Go Global‘, which was discussed with Eric Schmidt, the executive chairman of Google, while visiting Korea back on November 7th.

As a result, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and Google Korea came together to sign a business agreement stating that through YouTube, many activities will occur in order to promote Korean culture to the fullest.

Google Korea CEO Yum Dong Hoon revealed, “It’s exciting to see YouTube teaming up to promote K-pop, and spreading the genre to the rest of the world. K-pop’s popularity is extremely strong that it is now added as its own musical genre on YouTube. We are continuing to plan various activities and events to further spread the Korean culture, including K-pop, to the rest of the world via ‘Korea Go Global‘”.

On December 15th, Trax guested on MBN‘s ‘News 1‘ and talked about their desire to perform more often in Korea.

Jay began, “I want to perform more. Since our debut, our promotions in Japan were performance-oriented. Unfortunately, Korea is limited in its venues for band artists.” After revealing that they’ve performed over 100 times in Japan already, he continued, “There are a lot of things we have to learn from them in that regard.”

Jungmo added, We’re able to hold conversations in Japanese without the use of an interpreter. With K-Pop expanding globally, we want to show that band music is a part of it.

Since they’re also actors, the duo was asked which one they preferred. Jungmo replied with a laugh, “I think I’ll have to go with the obvious answer and say both,” while Jay responded, “I’ll go with musicals, since you can sing and act at the same time.”

SNSD was recently spotted bowing in a respectful 90 degrees to their juniors, A Pink, while at an event.

An online community board shared a video of the moment under the title, ‘SNSD Bowing to A Pink’. In a culture that’s centered around hierarchy and respect, this short moment was enough to attract several headlines, since it’s not expected for seniors to bow down to such a degree to their juniors.

In the video, A Pink greets their seniors, and Sunny and YoonA immediately respond by bowing back.

In a previous radio show, the girls once stated, “Rookie groups have a hard time approaching us so we always bow back to them in 90 degrees. It’s only been four years since our debut so we’re not in the position to be receiving bows, but bowing right with them.”

Netizens commented, “They’re not just talk, they’re action as well,” “SNSD is known for their respectfulness,” and “Very friendly atmosphere.”

The biggest surprise at last month's MTV European Music awards didn't come from the outfits chosen Lady Gaga, or that weird naked man roaming around the stage. In fact, the most unexpected moment arrived towards the end of the ceremony, when the winner of best worldwide act award was announced. The winners of the fan-driven award were Korean group Bigbang, who won 58m votes to beat Britney Spears. This was the one act that night most viewers wouldn't have known.

Bigbang's victory shed light on the rise and rise of Korean music across Europe. Korean pop – K-pop for short – has become one of South Korea's most notable exports in recent years. Paul Han, co-founder of the South Korean pop culture blog Allkpop.com, defines the style as "fun music, with a fusion of many genres" – it takes in electro-driven bubblegum pop; sometimes it's sprinkled with semi-nonsense English lyrics; sometimes there's an added R&B sway. Its audience is largely female, from early teens through to late 20s. "K-pop, I think, is personality," says the Korean-Canadian singer G.Na. "It's very melodious, very easy to sing along to."

Important note: It mentions BoA. )
