ZE: A throws a year-end party and charity concert, NA: NUM 2011, at the AX-KOREA in downtown Seoul on December 26.

ZE: A has kept carrying out volunteer activities for children at an orphanage before making its debut. The 2011 NA: NUM concert was specially designed to provide fans with the chances of experiencing the heartwarming joy and pleasant that we can feel when participating in voluntary activities.

Good People, an international development NGO, was deeply touched by what ZE: A intended and set out to help the concert fully equipped with a variety of voluntary programs in which fans freely join with ZE: A’s members.

In addition, Korean leading private companies including Biggrae, Waffle Bant and Play Monsters proposed to sponsor their products, the sales profit of which will be donated back to Good People. In this way, the simple idea of ZE: A’s concert has gradually gathered all levels of society to become a huge-scale charity event.

Suitable for the theme of the charity concert, they designated its dress code to be red-and-white, and are planning to set up a “wish tree” to which participants hang a wish note before entering the concert hall. Outside the hall, a donation booth will be installed along with surprise events held for fans to add the festive atmosphere.

ZE: A’s agency says, “All the members of ZE: A pleasantly join forces to prepare the concert in a sense of meaningfully closing this year. Staring from this year, we’ll be determined to keep throwing such a meaningful event every year.”

Following the “United Cube” concert in Brazil on December 13, Brazilian press had nothing but positive reviews for the Cube Entertainment artists that held the first K-Pop concert in the Latin American region.

Brazil’s daily paper, “Estado,” gave front page coverage of the event, going as far to compare 4minute to Lady Gaga and Rihanna. It reported, “K-Pop is already enjoying global popularity through YouTube. The Asian cultural boom that first started in Japan has now shifted to Korea, and through this concert, K-Pop’s proliferation in Latin America will only grow.”

The largest network TV in Brazil, Globo TV, also produced a special segment for this concert through a show called “Fantastico.” Some online communities such as “K-Pop Station” and “Saran Gingayo” are also reported to have covered the event in Portuguese.

At the press conference held prior to the concert, more than 100 press members gathered to check out the first K-Pop concert in the region. The organizer of the event said the press conference lasted over an hour and a half.

“We’re excited to be the first to advance to the massive Latin American market, but also feel pressure at the same time. We’ll do our best to set a good example for other K-Pop artists that may follow us in the future,” Cube Entertainment said in a statement.

BEAST’s Yoon Doo Joon said, “To see so many Brazilian fans, in addition to the huge number of UK fans in London, we’re truly surprised and impressed by the size of our global fanbase. I also feel a lot of pride and responsibility to see so many fans support us in Korean.”

Meanwhile, some of the top Cube Entertainment artists, including 4minute, BEAST, and G.NA, performed at the “United Cube Concert in Brazil” on December 13. For two and a half hours, they gave live performances of their hit songs in front of more than 3,500 fans. The concert was part of Cube Entertainment’s global tour concert, which included visits to London and Tokyo in the past.

On December 14th, AKB48’s ace Maeda Atsuko was in attendance of the 7pm show for 2PM’s arena tour “ARENA TOUR 2011 ‘REPUBLIC OF 2PM’”.

Maeda has previously attended other concerts by Korean artists, such as Big Bang, but this time she seemed to have gotten a bit more out of it. Maeda praised the boy group, “After work finished, I went to 2PM’s concert with the staff :-) Their singing and dancing was so powerful that it gave me a ton of energy just from watching!! THAT is an amazing thing!!

In addition to enjoying the show, Maeda feels she was also able to learn from 2PM as artists, “When I go to other artists’ lives I always get a new kind of motivation. I learned some things and had a fun time as well!… I feel refreshed from today, so tomorrow I can work harder!

Lastly, Maeda was also able to meet the members of 2PM and get a copy of their album signed. She explains that she bought it the other day and that she was happy that they signed a copy just for her. “It has good songs on it… Lately, I’ve been putting this album on heavy rotation in the car and today I’m going to go to sleep while listening to it!

Super Junior‘s Heechul and singer Hwanhee are currently serving their military duties at the same location.

Kim Heechul began his four weeks of basic training at the Nonsan training center back on September 1st, and has been serving as a public service worker at the Sungdong District Office since September 30th. Singer Hwanhee who has a problematic shoulder began his own basic training on October 27th, and has also been serving his military duties at the Sundong District Office since the end of November.

The two are reportedly building a strong friendship as two celebrities having met under different circumstances, and a source close to Heechul remarked, “They work in the same building, and they are only a single floor apart from each other. Whenever they have some free time, they meet to talk about various subjects. They have a lot more time now to talk, as opposed to briefly running into each other backstage here and there, and are definitely taking advantage of the situation.

Kim Heechul goes back and forth between the Super Junior dormitory and the Sungdong District Office, and is faithfully serving his duties as a Korean citizen. Hwanhee is also serving his country with pride, but also pays close attention to the progress of his boy group, MyName.

In a market where only the most powerful of performances catches the eye, A Pink decided to blaze their own path by going the exact opposite route, opting instead to charm with their aegyo-filled performances of "I Don't Know", and more recently, "My My".

But that doesn't mean that they’ll stick to that concept forever. In a recent interview, the girls revealed, "We rehearse to 4minute's songs and enjoy dancing to them. We'd love to show something sexy and strong some day. It's not that we can't, it's just that we're hiding it. There's a time and place for everything, and for now, we want to be innocent."

Commenting on the topic of winning the Rookie Award at the 2011 MAMA, the group said, "We were so excited! We're still lacking in so much, but we're so grateful that we were able to win such an award. We'll take the award as a message for us to work harder."

When asked what their goals for 2012 were, A Pink replied, "We want to win the Artist of the Year award. You have to dream big."

Concluding with a message for their fans, they stated, "Please give much, much, much, much love to our title track, My My!♡"

by Slant Staff on December 13, 2011

All of the writers who contributed to this list declined my invitation to write an introduction for the piece. I chalk it up to, perhaps, the lack of an obvious angle. There are admittedly few trends or takeaways to be discovered in our list—at least at first glance. A fetish for the past might have been a good thematic point of reference: Adele and Lana Del Rey peddled a brand of vintage that seemed surprisingly fresh; the pop divas (Lady Gaga, Robyn, Beth Ditto, Beyoncé, Patrick Wolf) all lovingly and non-ironically paid homage to the decade in which most of them were born; even the '90s got a nod thanks to EMA's "California." And notably, a holdover from last year, officially released as a single in January, emerged as our favorite with points to spare. But aside from our top pick, there was a surprising lack of consensus in the rankings. Adele's ubiquitous "Rolling in the Deep" got the broadest support from the Slant staff, but few were enthusiastic enough about it to propel it above two provocative but highly respected rappers' big singles. This was the year everyone seemed to agree that Gaga chose the wrong singles from her album, and yet they all made at least one appearance across our individual lists. So maybe that's the best angle to take when looking at the figurative and literal hits of 2011. From hip-hop to K-pop, the year's best singles were an eclectic bunch. Even the King of Pop made an appearance. Sal Cinquemani

SNSD
's American debut is setting to make new heights, as it has just been revealed that world renowned rap artist Snoop Dogg has made a featuring in their U.S. maxi-single release, "The Boys!" As we reported earlier, SNSD will be housed under Interscope Records for their American debut, the same record label that is home to artists like Lady Gaga, Eminem, and the Black Eyed Peas. The full maxi-single is scheduled for release all over the world through iTunes on December 20, and a Korean release the following day on the 21st.

The girls will be bringing out a top quality album that will surely be one to contend with, as Snoop Dogg has also been enlisted for help. Not only that, but Interscope's rookie rapper, Lil Play, will also be featured in the "The Boys" remix version.

This isn't all, as the girls are set for another special album release, that will contain "The Boys," through Universal Music on January 17 in the States and Europe. The special album will also contain SNSD's songs in Korean for fans who have a hard time purchasing their Korean songs overseas.

I just cant' picture them with Snoop but why not?

BEIJING/SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The South Korean Embassy in Beijing was hit by a metal ball believed to have been fired from an air gun, officials said Wednesday, as diplomatic tensions grow over the killing of a Korean Coast Guard officer by a Chinese fisherman.

An investigation by Chinese police has been under way since one of the embassy's bullet-proof windows was cracked on Tuesday afternoon by the ballbearing-shaped "iron bead" that was suspected to be fired from an air gun, officials said. No one was hurt.
