DAY6’s Wonpil has announced that he will be enlisting in the military next month.

On February 23, Wonpil held a Naver V Live broadcast in which he talked about his recent solo debut before personally sharing the news of his enlistment.

“I will be enlisting on March 28,” he announced, before adding, “Since Sungjin, [Young K], and Dowoon all already enlisted, a part of me kind of wanted to enlist early too.”

Wonpil went on to reveal that he would be enlisting in the navy, explaining that he had chosen to apply to the navy because it was the fastest available option—and as the final member of DAY6 to enlist in the military, he wanted to minimize the band’s hiatus by enlisting as quickly as possible.

Actor Park Bo-gum began his final military vacation Monday, effectively ending his active-duty service as he is not required to return to his base under an antivirus guideline, Navy officials said.

Earlier in the day, Petty Officer Second Class Park left his Navy unit in the Gyeryongdae military headquarters, 160 kilometers south of Seoul, as he started the vacation that would last until his official discharge date on April 30.

Troops were usually obligated to be present at their bases on the final day of their service, but the military has eased such rules to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

On December 28th during during a joint VLIVE with Wonpil, Dowoon announced that the VLIVE would be his last schedule and that he will be enlisting on the 17th January 2022. He's currently 27 in Korean age (26 in international age) so this is technically an early enlistment for him (as an idol). He will be joining as a member of the military band and shared that he was relieved that he'd be able to continue to play the drums throughout his service. “Musicians who play an instrument have this concern when they enlist in the military, if you don’t play your instrument for even a day, you start to lose your skills and your feel for the instrument. But fortunately, I’ll be in the military band.”

Dowoon is the third member of DAY6 to enlist after Sungjin in March and Young K in October of this year. Jae isn't a Korean national and therefore doesn't need to enlist and there's no news on when Wonpil will be enlisting as he is currently busy with acting and is set to release a solo album next year.

Wonpil shared that the main reason for Dowoon's early enlistment is to minimise the time that DAY6 is on hiatus so that they can make a comeback as soon as possible.

So I originally I figured he might do this as I didn't think he'd be the type to do many solo activities but then he was going on variety shows and even released a single so I figured he'd do more of that. Either way I'm happy that they all seem to want to comeback asap, I miss them ;~;

All the Korean members of K-pop boy group ONF are set to begin their compulsory military service in December, according to their management company WM Entertainment, Wednesday.

"Except for Japanese member U, the five Koreans members ― Hyojin, E-Tion, J-Us, Wyatt and MK ― will join the Army in December," WM said in a statement.

MK will be the first to enter boot camp Dec. 21, with J-Us and Wyatt following him, Dec. 27. Hyojin and E-Tion will enlist Dec. 28.

WM added that it would not disclose the place and time of their enlistment due to COVID-19 concerns.

In the K-pop scene, it is rare to see bandmates joining the military at the same time. In most cases, when one member starts his duty, the other members continue their careers in a bid to stay in the limelight and, once he returns, they take turns. ONF, however, made a different choice.

Young K, vocalist and guitarist of boy band DAY6, has become the first K-pop idol to join the KATUSA (Korean Augmentation To the United States Army) for his compulsory military service.

According to his record label, JYP Entertainment, Young K, 27, will enlist Tuesday and undergo basic military training for five weeks before being assigned to a unit.

"I want to use my time wisely while serving my duty," Young K said through his company. "I hope I can play a live concert in front of crowds once I return."

The competition to join the KATUSA ― which is known for its better treatment of soldiers ― is extremely intense, with only around 2,000 men being chosen every year. All able-bodied men aged between 18 and 28, who meet the minimum required scores on English proficiency tests such as the TOEIC, TEPS and TOEFL, are eligible to apply.
