Actor Park Bo-gum began his final military vacation Monday, effectively ending his active-duty service as he is not required to return to his base under an antivirus guideline, Navy officials said.

Earlier in the day, Petty Officer Second Class Park left his Navy unit in the Gyeryongdae military headquarters, 160 kilometers south of Seoul, as he started the vacation that would last until his official discharge date on April 30.

Troops were usually obligated to be present at their bases on the final day of their service, but the military has eased such rules to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Actor Gong Yoo said he came to think a lot about life and death while filming "Seobok," a sci-fi film about the relationship between a terminally-ill man and a human clone.

"Through this film, I was able to look back at my own life and pose questions about what kind of human I want to be. I think how you live is more important than living a long life," he said during an interview with The Korea Times via Zoom, Tuesday.

Directed by Lee Yong-joo, "Seobok" tells the story of a Ki-heon (Gong), a former intelligence agent who is suffering from a terminal illness and is given a final mission to secretly transport the world's first human clone, Seobok (Park Bo-gum), to a safe haven. However, they find themselves in a number of life-threatening situations as other forces seek to take possession of Seobok.

The sci-fi action film "Seobok," featuring Gong Yoo and Park Bo-gum, will simultaneously hit theaters and a local streaming service next month, its distributor CJ ENM said Wednesday.

It will be the first big budget Korean film to take the "two-track" approach amid the COVID-19 pandemic, while a few have skipped theaters and gone directly to streaming platforms.

"Time to Hunt" (2020) was the first Korean film to go to Netflix without a theatrical release, followed by the time-slip thriller "Call" in November and space opera "Space Sweepers" in February.

"Seobok" is one of the most eagerly awaited films of 2021 because two heartthrob actors are starring together in a film for the first time. It was originally slated for a theatrical release in December, but this was thwarted by COVID-19.

The new sci-fi film "Seo Bok," starring Gong Yoo and Park Bo-gum, is set to hit theaters in December. The film's distributor CJ ENM announced the news Wednesday with teaser posters of the two lead actors.

"We haven't pinpointed on the date exactly, as situations like COVID-19 might affect our schedule," the distributor told The Korea Times. "But we are aiming the premiere date for the beginning of December."

The sci-fi action flick is one of this year's long-awaited films as it is the first time the two heartthrob actors have appeared together. Directed by Lee Yong-ju, known for the award-winning "Architecture 101," the story revolves around terminally ill former intelligence agent Ki-hun (Gong), who encounters genetically mutated human clone Seo Bok (Park), who holds the secret of eternal life.

With many people seeking to obtain that secret, the two are dragged into conflict.

It feels...light when I'm watching Hye Joon and Jung Ha. I love Hye Joon's mom and grandpa and can somehow see some people being able to relate to Hye Joon's family story. Hae Hyo is sweet guy (so far) and I like his mom and sister (so far). Looking forward to the next episode because of episode 4 ending =)

Park Bogum enlisted a week ago and left us with this drama (he did a Yook Sungjae on me tsss). So far, I like it! The awkward-but-its-working-for-me chemistry between Park Bogum and Park Sodam is nice to watch. Also, “Record of Youth” has taken No. 1 in its time slot for Monday-Tuesday dramas when it premiered.
