Wassup party people. I am in a quandary. Half of me says I don’t need to spend $30 on one Monsta X hat because wtf it’s only a hat. But the other part says that it’s the only piece of merch I want (I'm not a merch person at all), so $30 isn’t actually too bad. Well, that and two albums. Tell me it’s okay and help me justify the hat. I’m like 75% already, just push me over the edge so I can go to the pop up this weekend. Anyway! Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the 2nd week in December, 2010. I really liked a bunch of these songs, so this week is a win for me!

#3 Girls’ Generation “Hoot”
“Hoot” was the third Korean single they released in 2010, and all three would peak at #1. Despite being released in late October, their EP “Hoot” would be the 3rd bestselling album of the year. Loved this era so much! So much big hair, and I freaking love big hair! I looooved all the styling for the music shows. Despite my love for this song and era, I don’t really like the music video. The bad wigs distract me lol. They are unnecessary, along with Siwon. Like, what is he even doing here? It’s been awhile, so let’s check out the MV again.

#3 Mad Clown featuring Hyolyn “Without You”

This was his official debut under Starship Entertainment. Starship loooves doing collabs lol, and this song features Sistar’s Hyolyn. Most of his singles from his time at the company are songs with other Starship artists. This was did well on the charts, peaking in the top ten, winning some music show trophies, and selling very well too. Here’s his comeback stage at Music Core.

oh my god these clips are so cute!! I love seeing her dedication with all the dancing clips. I'm a little heated this week with 9Muses appearing in Flashback Friday so once again I am bitter about 9Muses deserving better!!!!!!

Former Orange Caramel and After School‘s Lizzy updated an instagram story on 8 October where she shared screenshots of the music video from WJSN CHOCOME, along with the following caption.

"I hope that WJSN will go beyond what OC has💛
#Hmph! hwaiting!
But there’s some overlapping things with Orange Caramel, including the music video concept. “Aing~”, “Abing abing”, “Magic Girl”, “Catallena” 😀 hmph hmph~ ❤️

Raina, Nana and Lizzy are the best.❤️"

What's your opinion? Is Lizzy sincere or was she shading and is now backtracking?

In this series I want to go through groups that are gone, but not forgotten. I will go from debut till disbandment or [indefinite] hiatus, remembering the time we had together and look back on their highs and lows.

After School

After School is a South Korean girl group with an admissions and graduation concept formed by Pledis Entertainment, with their official debut in 2009. As of December 2019, After School only has one member (Nana) under the label. According to the group's website however, Lizzy, Raina, E-Young and Kaeun are still members of the group.

This one was highly requested, i put a lot of effort into it so hopefully i did them justice ;). I miss After School's fantastic and unique concepts! They truly put so much effort into their promotions: pole dancing, tap dancing, drumming. They were truly well-rounded and multi-talents! It's a shame they never got the true and full spotlight they deserved. Let me know what you think about this week? Favorite concept, member, comeback, song, line-up? What did you think about their graduation system? Would love to hear your honest opinions. Have fun and as always: thank you for stopping by ♥

Time for something a little different! This month's battle is gonna take you back to the past to find some GG hits that kick ass. We're starting off in the first half of 2010, the beginning of the just-passed decade, when the world—and the K-pop world—was a very different place. If you're an older fan, it's time for a trip down nostalgia lane... and if you're a newer fan, here's your chance to discover some new old favorites. Which girl group release will stand the test of time?

The contenders... )

So, now that you've seen the contenders...

[Poll #2102198][Poll #2102198]

Omona, which of these songs do you remember and which are new discoveries? Have your opinions on the songs changed over the years? And what do you miss about this era of K-pop?

As most of you know, Show! Music Core is a South Korean music television program broadcast by MBC. It airs live every Saturday. Let's look back upon a 2011 Special Episode, featuring the most popular artists at the time like SNSD (MCs), Dal Shabet, Infinite, Super Junior, T-ara, Brown Eyed Girls, Orange Caramel, 4Minute etc.

Once I start watching 1 old performance I can't stop and end up re-watching at least a full episode. I absolutely love the outdoor specials and this one in particular because of the line-up and the fact that they all sing live despite the strong wind, so i thought it would be fun to share with you as a little throwback. Favorite performance?

Orange Caramel was the first subgroup of South Korean girl group After School. The subgroup was formed in 2010 with the third generation After School members Nana, Raina, and Lizzy. Orange Caramel's fourth single, "My Copycat", was their final release on August 18, 2014.

Next: hint

Ah~ I miss them so much.
I included stage mixes for each song and i highly recommend watching them just for their styling and headpieces: definitely worth taking a look at. Their stylists must've spent so much time preparing for all these outfits. I mean: dancing with orange juice on your head? Brilliant. Let me know your favorite outfit and headpiece!
I still think Bangkok City deserved a better choreography~
Last week only [livejournal.com profile] audreyfrill got my hint right. The shoes were from their Lipstick promotions.
But to compensate a little I (hopefully) made next week's hint a little bit easier (think title track). Let me know your guesses!
How do you feel about KARA and f(x) for future installments? I would love to do them because despite what happened I think they are worth remembering but i'm not sure you how guys feel about it.
Have fun watching and reading~ ♥

This week, we’re going back to the 3rd week in March, 2014. All of the songs have been posted once before, so this time we will see some comeback stages.

#3 Lyn “Miss You…Crying”
This song came out at a really good time for her. The drama “My Love From The Star” had just finished up, which featured her big hit for the OST, “My Destiny”. This was the lead song from her “Le Grand Bleu” album, her first full album after two years.

What's your favorite K-pop album of the last decade, omona?
[identity profile] pinklunacy.livejournal.com
69. BTS, "Blood, Sweat and Tears" (dir. Choi Yongseek and Ko Yoojeong, 2016)

“Blood, Sweat & Tears” is the thesis for BTS as a K-pop group whose work is rich for interpretation. The grab-bag of high-art references makes this music video ripe for fan theories. Cut to a museum filled with European Renaissance replications: Michelangelo’s Pietà explodes! Van Goghian sky swirls abound! V jumps off a balcony in front of a painting of the fallen Icarus! Amid this lavish portrait of BTS at the height of their game, one thing is clear: the septet makes K-pop for the thinking fan. -- CAITLIN KELLEY

Hello again Omona, Hope you're not getting too tired of me posting these rankings yet! As the decade grows closer to its end, they seem to be multiplying like rabbits and I sort of like seeing what ~the west~ thinks of Kpop even when their obvious ignorance or lack of taste makes me roll my eyes. This list is the most invalid one so far imo because there should be so many more Kpop MVs up there. Polished aesthetics and crazy visuals is where Kpop actually slays all competition.

mods, I hope it's okay that I chose not to post the whole thing - it was too damn long. But I did add the videos for the top 20 hoping this might be a nice way for some of us to remember some good things about 2010s Kpop. The whole list doesn't always make sense to me but it also has some of my favourite kpop songs ever. I'm pretty sure it's missing a lot of them but I haven't had the time to find which ones yet so I'm mostly fine with it for now! Most especially, I'm very very satisfied with #14, #11, #10, #7 and #3 tbh. #1 is a whole anthem and I love it. #8 on the other hand...
