BTS Launches First Webtoon Project Called 'We On'

Big Hit Entertainment, in collaboration with Jaedam Media and CJ E&M, has just launched the very first webtoon project for Bangtan Boys called "We On". Written and illustrated by Lee Soon Gi and Park Jong Sung, it is a fantasy/action story revolving on seven boys with special abilities who are brought together to be guardians of the earth, collectively known as BTS (Be The Shield). A photocard containing cartoonized versions of BTS members comes with their album Dark & Wild, serving as a preview for fans who have already bought the album.

After School and Orange Caramel member Lizzy will be making her big screen debut through the upcoming movie “Today’s Love.”

According to a movie industry official on August 1, Lizzy has confirmed her casting in the movie “Today’s Love,” and recently joined the rest of the cast and crew on set.

The movie’s cast lineup consists of actor and singer Lee Seung Gi, actress Moon Chae Won, former announcer Park Eun Ji, as well as former T-ara member Hwayoung.

It has been reported that Lizzy will be taking on the role of ‘Min Ah,’ a bright and charming character that will breathe life into the movie’s storyline.

Previously, the After School member has displayed her acting through sitcoms and dramas, such as “All My Love,” and “Rascal Sons,” however, this will be her first time appearing on the big screen with “Today’s Love.”

SISTAR Conquers the Charts Once Again with “I Swear”

SISTAR has done it once again! On August 26 as of 3 p.m. local time, just hours after its release, “I Swear” from SISTAR’s new special album “Sweet & Sour” hit the top of eight major real-time music charts in Korea, including Melon, Mnet, Genie, Olleh, Daum, Naver, etc.

This completes SISTAR’s summer one-two, the group having conquered the music charts already earlier this season with their summer anthem “Touch My Body.”

In addition to “I Swear,” “Sweet & Sour” includes the song “Hold On Tight” as well as various remixes on classic SISTAR tracks.

Korea cuts 2,500 native-English teachers in public schools

Native English speakers are facing a tough competition in the Korean job market as the government continues to slash the number of foreign teachers in public schools.

The number of native teachers in Korean public schools dropped to 6,785 as of April this year, down from 9,320 in 2011, according to figures that The Korea Observer exclusively obtained from the Ministry of Education.

A senior official said the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education has stopped hiring native teachers for secondary schools in the capital since 2013.

“We now only hire native English teachers for elementary schools,” she said, noting that the Seoul Metropolitan Government is pushing to replace native English teachers with Korean instructors fluent in English.

“The Seoul City plans to enhance the English proficiency of Korean English teachers to a level that it no longer needs to hire native English teachers.”

On MBC 'Real Men' Female Special episode aired on August 24th, the female casts including Hye Ri, Hong Eun Hee, La Mi Ran, Park Seung Hee, Kim So Yeon, G.Na, and Mang Seung Ji had to undergo their physical examinations.

All of them are a bit embarrassed as their actual body weights and heights were found out to be different from the data on their online profile.

Girl's day Hyeri attracted public's attention as her online profile tells that she is 167 tall and weights 47kg. However, her actual height was found out to be 166cm, and the weight was 51kg.

During the interview, Hyeri said, "The microphone is too heavy. Just take 1~2kg out from that", as a reason to the change of weight.

Meanwhile, people had shown their interest in female special episode of 'Real Men' because the ratings for 1st episode is quite good.

When David Lee steps before several dozen guests to introduce his once-in-a-lifetime take on North Korean cuisine, he sounds almost sorry. After all, as the executive chef of Barn Joo, a (South) “Korean-inspired gastropub” in Manhattan’s Flatiron District, Lee admits he makes “pretty Americanized” versions of his own national dishes, and his attempt at North Korean fare will inevitably have to take some liberties, too. Born in South Korea, Lee couldn’t visit his estranged countrymen to the North if he tried, let alone taste what they’ve been eating lately.

But tonight, somewhat unbelievably, everybody in Barn Joo’s private dining room can. Joo Yang, a 23-year-old defector and the evening’s guest of honor, has brought along some smuggled ingredients from her home country’s black market. She’s here courtesy of Liberty in North Korea, the nonprofit for which this dinner is supposed to raise a bunch of cash. With a team spread across Asia and the United States, LiNK is committed in part to challenging perceptions of the country—typically colored by nuclear rhetoric and Kim family nonsense—and drawing attention to the 25 million human beings still tethered to its soil.

Tonight’s menu is probably their most creative project yet. LinK’s Sarah Lee (no relation to the chef) speculates that this may well be “the first meal of its kind in North America,” which is probably true by token of the authentic dishes alone. Take into account those that are a more hepcat, Manhattan-gentrified take on a cuisine largely still locked within what is still the world’s most notorious police state, and this might be the first meal of its anywhere.

CNBLUE’s Jonghyun Poses Under Water for Vogue Korea

Lee Jong Hyun will be showing off his various, colorful charms through the pictorial that can be found in fashion magazine Vogue Korea’s upcoming September issue.

Through this particular photo shoot, the CNBLUE member posed for “underwater” shots, with his hair soaked in water, his clear skin shining under the shadows of water, as well as his deep gaze staring into the camera. The concept of the pictorial was ‘moist, sexy skin that shimmers in water shadows,’ which Jong Hyun was able to pull off perfectly.

Meanwhile, CNBLUE is currently on their live tour “Can’t Stop,” and they are set to open up the “2014 CNBLUE Live Tour – Can’t Stop in Manila” on September 19 in the Philippines.

The assault charges against singer and actor Kim Hyun Joong have not yet been proven. For now, they are only allegations. But if the singer is found guilty, it seems likely that his career will suffer, as k-celebs are held to a higher standard than Hollywood stars.

The closest case to compare it to might be actor Park Shi Hoo's 2013 date rape scandal. The allegations damaged his career even though the charges were eventually dropped. He has not worked in Korea since the charges were made early in 2013. The news that he might be cast in a drama even after the charges were dropped prompted so much negative criticism that his involvement did not happen.

So Ji Sub recently completed a successful tour of six Asian countries, greeting thousands of fans at each stop. He also spoke with the media at several locations during the "So Ji Sub 1st Asia Tour." One of the questions that interviewers were eager to ask him was how he felt about marriage.

When interviewed by Chinese media, the actor, rapper and successful entrepreneur said that it's a question he is often asked. And it may be that it comes up more often these days, as he gets closer to his ideal age for getting married. He's 37 and his target date is only three years away.

On-Set Knee Injury Sends Kim Woo Bin To The Hospital

Actor Kim Woo Bin suffered a knee injury on the set of his film "Twenty."

The injury was serious enough to halt filming on Aug. 24 and the actor was taken to the emergency room at Jungbuk Hospital in Jeonju. At the hospital he was examined for about an hour and his exam included an MRI scan of his left knee.

The 15-year-old recently discussed what it was like to work with her co-star Chun Jung Myung, who will soon be 34. She was asked what it was like to work with her much-older co-star in "Reset."

They got along well, she said at a press conference for the drama, and it was not at all awkward.
