Rapper Swings guested on MBC’s Radio Star’s episode titled ‘Legendary Fist 2,’ revealing how is relationship is with Simon D since the ‘hip-hop diss battle’ took place.

Having received spotlights last year through the ‘hip-hop diss battle,’ Swings was asked by MC Kim Gook Jin, “Are you still uncomfortable with Simon D?”

Swings answered, “I heard that he was on Radio Star recently and called him. I talked to him about the things I felt uncomfortable about.”

Then Swings sent a video message to Simon D on the spot and MC Kim Gura commented, “I’m sure if they did things like sending video messages to each other in America, there wouldn’t be any gunfights,” causing a round of laughter.

Before Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and even Instagram accounts were a necessity for K-Pop groups, there were and still are fan cafes. Fan cafes are online communities where fans not only share photos and have discussion, but also become a united voice and identity in representing the fandom. You couldn’t be considered a true fan unless you were a member in an official fan cafe. Even celebrities are often members of their own fan cafe to read what the fans were thinking, and their management works with the leaders of the fan cafe to organize fan events.

However, with the rise in popularity for Facebook and other sites as easy and effective ways to reach a worldwide audience, agencies and fans alike are stepping away from the fan cafes. Especially with social networking sites, celebrities do not need to use a fan cafe bulletin board to communicate with their fans. More and more celebrities are opening up personal accounts to share their thoughts and photos directly to their fans, both in and out of Korea. Agencies are also using the Twitter or Facebook follower counts as a measure of their artist’s worldwide popularity.

The following op-ed was originally written for translation into Korean for Newsweek Korea.

Foreigners living in Korea are prone to forget just how much of a bubble they live in. What exercises Americans, Canadians and Brits away from home may be of little or no interest to Koreans.

So it’s been with a recent skit on the hugely popular Gag Concert that many expatriates have decried as demeaning to Africans and black people generally.

Sooyoung Cast in New Drama, ‘Springtime of My Life’

Actor Kam Woosung and Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung will be starring in MBC’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama, “Springtime of My Life” as the male and female lead.

With the first broadcast in September, “Springtime of My Life” will be about a terminally ill patient who received a heart transplant and meets the donor’s husband for a unique love story melodrama.

In the drama, Kam Woosung plays Kang Dongha, a man who is raising two kids alone after losing his wife in an accident and gets to live a new life, experiencing destined love after meeting the receiver of his wife’s heart, Lee Bom.

Sooyoung plays Lee Bom, a woman that has another chance at life after receiving a heart transplant. Lee Bom, with the thoughts that she’s living out another person’s life, thinks more than anyone else that she has no choice but to live an active and fierce life. She is a woman that is in a loveline with Kang Dongha.

In particular, it is based off of cellular (or body) memory (a phenomenon where the recipient of an organ demonstrates the personality or habits of their donor), which is sure to be unique and fresh material background for the heart-warming love story.

The drama is set to air in September after “Fated to Love You”.

On the 16th of July, YG Entertainment revealed that Taeyang and Tablo will be performing a collaboration stage of Taeyang’s “Eyes, Nose, Lips” on SBS’s Inkigayo on the 20th of July.

JYJ Concept Photos For New Album "JUST US" + Info

JYJ will release their new full-length album, ‘JUST US’, on July 29th.

CJES Entertainment stated, “JYJ will release their second full-length album on the 29th and begin activities with a showcase and Asia tour after its release. JYJ personally worked with composers to create lyrics and also the album will also include English songs produced by an American studio, totalling 13 songs to be released.”

On releasing teaser photos and behind-the-scenes photos of props via JYJ’s official Facebook account, CJES said “To commemorate the confirmation of JYJ’s album release, we shared the news and teasers with fans first.” The released teaser photos show each of the JYJ members in a close-up cut as well as photos of the colourful flowers and vintage props used on the album jacket photo shoot set, generating hot responses from domestic and international fans.

Each member has been working on solo activities such as dramas, musicals and films but it has been three years since the three members worked together on music. Though it could feel like a burden, JYJ instead felt happy and at ease as they worked together, and received compliments such as “JYJ lives up to their name”.

JYJ revealed their thoughts on the album, “JYJ’s album is titled ‘JUST US’ because we don’t feel the burden that we must look handsome and cool. Instead, we simply want to show our natural state. It’s true that this is music that only JYJ can create, but we were very happy while creating this music and we want to share this happiness with the public.
