The history of TVXQ also known as DBSK can best be described in terms that would normally be reserved from relationship breakups. How DBSK split into TVXQ and JYJ is one of the most difficult and lengthy situations to explain to new fans of K-Pop. When EXO performed Mirotic at the 28th Golden Disk Awards, they incorporated the complex harmonies that made song so wonderful when performed by the original formation of DBSK. To appreciate the original lineup of DBSK is to love both JYJ and the current duo that is TVXQ.

Many agencies have tried to incorporate fan participation in the past by inviting fans to visit the music video sets and take part in the filming. A recent example is G-Dragon’s music video for “Who You?” Trio Lunafly held a special event where they would upload the winning video as the official MV for one of their tracks “Stardust.”

MYSTIC89 decided to join in on the fun and hold a special event where they would release a collaboration music video with fans on Valentine’s Day. JYJ fans everywhere must be shedding tears at the news that not one but two of the members will be starting their mandatory military service this year. Junsu, 26, and Jaejoong, 27, both plan on requesting general enlistment in the army by the end of the year, with next February being reported as the latest that the duo will enlist by. According to their agency, C-Jes Entertainment, “As the military service is a sensitive issue for male celebrities, as they can receive the harsh criticism, both men have decided to go properly.“. If B1A4 wasn’t already in deep waters because of their sajaegi scandal, the group is now attracting netizen attention because of a post accusing them of copying SHINee and f(x)’s album concepts.

The article juxtaposed SHINee’s “Sherlock” album jacket, concept photos, and individual member snapshots with that of B1A4’s “Ignition” content material and points out that B1A4 plagiarized the “artwork, jacket, pose, style, details, and feeling” that SHINee was going for. The netizen also argues that “Sherlock” was released two months before “Ignition” and so the close-timing of both releases is not merely coincidental.

If that wasn’t enough, the post also accuses B1A4’s “In the Wind” EP concept of being a direct replica of f(x)’s “Electric Shock” mini-album as well. “In the Wind” was released in November 2012 while “Electric Shock” came out in June 2012, again making the timing ‘suspicious’

Comments on the Instiz article are discussing the topic with many agreeing that there are similarities upon “first glance,” that WM Entertainment may have actually plagiarized from SHINee and f(x), and that B1A4 must be in for some tough times because this isn’t helping their reputation.

Korea’s largest-ever delegation of 66 athletes will unfold what they have prepared at the Sochi Olympics, where more than 2,500 athletes from 88 countries will compete. Korea will be represented in every sport except for ice hockey for the first time. / Yonhap

By Jung Min-ho

With the Sochi Winter Olympics just 10 days away, preparation time is almost over for Korean athletes who will arrive at the Black Sea resort town burdened by expectations for a historic medal haul.

A record 66 Korean athletes have qualified for the upcoming Olympics, 18 more than the 48 the country sent to Salt Lake City for the 2002 Games. They have been facing mounting pressure for an impressive performance in Sochi, where the country aims at winning at least four gold medals and add to the build-up for the 2018 Games to be held at the Korean ski town of PyeongChang, Gangwon Province.

Twenty-eight Koreans will compete in the speed and figure skating events, 16 in sledding events and 15 in skiing events. Five Korean women will compete in curling and the country will also send two biathlon athletes. Ice hockey will be the only sport in Sochi where Koreans will not be participating.

While Korea has previously produced Olympic champions in speed skating and figure skating, Sochi represents really the first time the country will make a serious attempt at earning its stripes in snow.

Won Yun-jong leads a group of Korean bobsledders, while the female curling team hopes to build on its impressive semifinal berth at the 2012 world championships.

Freestyle skier Choi Jae-woo and snowboarder Kim Ho-jun want to blaze trails in the men’s moguls and half-pipe, respectively.

The goal of four gold medals may prove to be difficult. Although Korea won six gold medals in Vancouver, that was when the country was still dominating short-track speed skating, where the competition has developed parity in the last couple of years.

Korea’s pair of “ice queens” — figure skating star Kim Yu-na and speed skating standout Lee Sang-hwa — are favored to repeat as Olympic champions, but the country’s other medal contenders are facing close competitions in their sports.

However, the country does expect to improve on its overall medal haul of 14 from Vancouver with its athletes appearing in a broader set of competitions.

Male group Block B will postpone their comeback scheduled for February, and focus on Asian promotions instead.

A source in the entertainment industry revealed to media outlet Sports Seoul on January 27, “Block B has decided to push back their comeback next month. To make the new album more polished, the new target is to come back during the first half of the year,” and continued, “Also, love calls from China and Japan won’t stop, so they have overseas concerts, promotions, and commercials on their mind.”

According to the source, Block B will perform at Arirang TV’s “Simply K-Pop” concert, taking place in Shanghai on March 22. In July, they are planning to hold a solo concert in China, which will most likely attract fans from all over the country. Block B was recently introduced to the Chinese audience through a concert program of China Central Television (CCTV), and this has reportedly had a positive effect on the size of their local fanbase.

On January 17, Block B proved their popularity by being the final act at the “2014 K-Pop Dream Concert – Happy New Year with K-Pop” held in Osaka, Japan. Even though the group has not yet released official albums in these two countries, they have a great amount of supportive fans.

To continue their successful overseas promotions, the boys will return to Japan on January 29 to perform at the “Live Arch” concert, held at Zepp Tokyo.

Award-winning Japanese drama “Nodame Cantabile” will be remade for Korean television.

Broadcasting insiders said on January 27 that production company Group 8 has decided to produce a Korean version of “Nodame Cantabile.”

“Nodame Cantabile” first appeared in a Japanese manga magazine in 2001 and is the work of manga artist Tomoko Ninomiya. The classical music-themed manga has a total of 23 volumes, and over 26 million copies have been sold to date.

In 2006, Fuji TV adapted “Nodame Cantabile” into a drama, with the Ueno Juri as Noda Megumi and Tamaki Hiroshi as Chiaki Shinichi. The following year, Fuji TV made an anime version of the series. “Nodame Cantabile” was a huge hit, along with its OST and associated games. Two movie sequels to the drama were released in theaters in 2009 and 2010, with the original cast.

“Nodame Cantabile” was also immensely popular abroad; it was screened in places such as Taiwan and Hong Kong, and achieved 2% ratings when screened on cable in Korea.

2008 MBC drama “Beethoven Virus” had similar subject matter. The classical music-themed drama starred Kim Myung Min, Jang Geun Suk and Lee Ji Ah.

Group 8, which also did “Goong,” “Boys Over Flowers” and “Pretty Man,” is no stranger to drama adaptations of comics. The company plans to air the drama within the year, and is currently casting writers and actors. The drama has yet to find itself a broadcaster.

To those who watched the drama, who would you cast?
