Group 8 to make Korean version of Japanese drama 'Nodame Cantabile', OP hopes for the best

Award-winning Japanese drama “Nodame Cantabile” will be remade for Korean television.

Broadcasting insiders said on January 27 that production company Group 8 has decided to produce a Korean version of “Nodame Cantabile.”

“Nodame Cantabile” first appeared in a Japanese manga magazine in 2001 and is the work of manga artist Tomoko Ninomiya. The classical music-themed manga has a total of 23 volumes, and over 26 million copies have been sold to date.

In 2006, Fuji TV adapted “Nodame Cantabile” into a drama, with the Ueno Juri as Noda Megumi and Tamaki Hiroshi as Chiaki Shinichi. The following year, Fuji TV made an anime version of the series. “Nodame Cantabile” was a huge hit, along with its OST and associated games. Two movie sequels to the drama were released in theaters in 2009 and 2010, with the original cast.

“Nodame Cantabile” was also immensely popular abroad; it was screened in places such as Taiwan and Hong Kong, and achieved 2% ratings when screened on cable in Korea.

2008 MBC drama “Beethoven Virus” had similar subject matter. The classical music-themed drama starred Kim Myung Min, Jang Geun Suk and Lee Ji Ah.

Group 8, which also did “Goong,” “Boys Over Flowers” and “Pretty Man,” is no stranger to drama adaptations of comics. The company plans to air the drama within the year, and is currently casting writers and actors. The drama has yet to find itself a broadcaster.

Just don't cast park shinhye as nodame or lee minho as chiaki please. I don't have anything against their acting but Nodame is a classic and flawless jdrama for me.

That being said, I can see Daniel Choi playing Chiaki for some strange reason (maybe because I want him to play a neurotic mess?) Or maybe Kang Haneul? Not sure if he can pull off comedy though.

Their latest adaptions are so bad. "Pretty Man" is tragic. I just hope they dont mess this up.

Might be unpopular opinion but I feel like Sandara would make a great lead because
a) her speech pattern reminds me of the quirky way Nodame spoke
b) sandara would do great in a romcom like this one
c) i just see it as a great kdebut for her ~

he kinda looks like chiaki and he's musically inclined
and he's a big fan of nodame cantabile

the other guy in my mind as Chiaki is Kang Haneul

I'm sorry to say this but no way in hell should Yonghwa play Chiaki...he requires a technically proficient actor...one who can do comedy and who can hit the dramatic points

oh dear lord pls no. i haven't liked any group 8 dramas apart from goong and tamra, and even those were very flawed (but enjoyable shows). i think they were manhwa adaptations though, but still.

honestly i don't think manga can ever be adapted properly into korean tv. the tone/sensibility of the source material doesn't work in a korean setting imo. especially with this manga, i just can't see it working.

Nodame is so flawless I can't see any drama remake (no matter the country or company) topping it or doing it justice. It has one of the best jdrama ensemble casts of all time. The casting was perfect.

editor girl from flower boy next door or BUST. she is literally perfect for it. and i would watch this drama for her alone because otherwise i wouldnt touch this with a ten foot pole. p much none of the other actresses i can think of would commit to the crazy as well. and ofc there ARE good gag women and comedians but they wouldnt look young and pretty enough korea/kdramas so that is a very narrow pool to draw from and nothing could be worse than a boring nodame.
