Artists of YG Entertainment Will Not Be Attending MBC Gayo Daejun

YG Entertainment will not be represented at this year’s MBC Gayo Daejun.

A representative of MBC’s variety show department revealed, “YG Entertainment’s artists will not attend the 2013 MBC Gayo Daejun held on December 31. Currently we expect to see no performances from artists of YG.” Last year, YG artists attended the year-end festival for the first time in four years. 2NE1, Big Bang, Epik High and Lee Hi collaborated for various special stages, and world star PSY greeted the viewers with a friendly video message. This announcement must thus come as a surprise to many, especially those who were hoping to see YG and MBC strengthen their relationship this year.

YG Entertainment is currently discussing the year-end festival issue with KBS, and while the broadcast station has invited YG artists to the show, the chances of them attending are not looking too good. As always, YG has confirmed their artists’ appearance at the 2013 SBS Gayo Daejun, and a special stage by two strong and sexy females, CL of 2NE1 and Lee Hyori, is gaining a lot of attention.

2013 KBS Gayo Daejun will be held on December 27, followed by 2013 SBS Gayo Daejun on December 29, and the year will be wrapped up by 2013 MBC Gayo Daejun on December 31.

Girls Day comeback in January

Get ready to start 2014 with the beautiful ladies of Girl’s Day!

On December 10, the group’s agency, Dream Tea Entertainment, announced that Girl’s Day are aiming for a January comeback. In an interview with Star News, the agency commented, “We are working on the album with a comeback in mind for the first week of January.”

Fans can expect to be reunited with the four ladies as their upcoming mini album is predicted to convey the group’s signature cute, but sexy concept.

Through such songs as “Expectation” and “Female President,” Girls’ Day solidified their status as cute, sexy, and vocally strong women of the K-Pop industry.

The group’s continuous efforts to bring quality music raise the anticipation for their next album. Although the exact comeback dates are undetermined, we can all hope to meet these gorgeous and talented ladies at the start of 2014.

It seems they have already decided on the concept, but is there a concept you would like Girl’s Day to try out next?

MBC and KBS Ban Celebrities in Legal Trouble from Appearing on Broadcast

MBC and KBS has recently issued a ban against the celebrities who have recently broken the law.

MBC’s list includes Kim Yong Man, Lee Seung Yeon, Hyun Young, Park Shi Yeon and Jang Mi In Ae. Kim Yong Man was involved with illegal gambling while the other actresses were charged with propofol abuse. From now on these five celebrities will not be allowed to appear on any MBC program.

Additionally, KBS banned Lee Seung Yeon, Park Shi Yeon, Jang Mi In Ae, Go Young Wook and E-Sens from broadcast.

Go Young Wook was found guilty of sexually abusing a minor whereas E-Sens was involved in marijuana charges.

Other candidates on this list include Lee Soo Geun, Tak Jae Hoon, Tony An and comedian Song In Hwa. After these celebrities receive their final court hearing, KBS will be finalizing their list as well.

But it's also music videos that inspire, songs which transcend language barriers, heart-wrenching and deserved comebacks. The sheer volume of material makes summarising a lip-chewing nightmare. B1A4 Becomes Honorary Ambassador for Girls Scouts Korea

Taking the reins from CN Blue, B1A4 was newly appointed as the honorary ambassador for Girls Scouts Korea.

On December 11, WM Entertainment announced that Girls Scouts Korea selected B1A4 as the honorary ambassador.

The honorary ambassador appointment ceremony will take place on December 18.

Girls Scouts Korea revealed that it selected the B1A4 members after seeing their talent and charms. B1A4 also put on donation concerts and positively contributed to society in its activities and promotions.

“B1A4’s energetic and healthy image seemed to fit well with the image of Girls Scouts, so we decided to choose this group,” said Girls Scouts Korea.

With this appointment, B1A4 will become the 6th honorary ambassador of Girls Scouts Korea. The group will participate in various activities with Girls Scouts Korea until 2015.

Rain, Epik High, Girls’ Generation, f(x), and CN Blue have previously served as honorary ambassadors.

T-ara will hold a charity event for the less fortunate.

T-ara will take a break from their busy activities to volunteer and directly donate to the elderly, disabled children, and nurseries. They will visit various neighborhoods and take the lead in the volunteer services.

T-ara will hold a charity auction and auction off some of their own personal items such as costumes and accessories for a total of over 300 items. T-ara will directly auction the pieces on site for charity.

T-ara's auction will also be live-streamed on the Internet worldwide for about three hours. Some of the goods being auctioned on the 24th can also be purchased over the Internet.

T-ara's charity and auction event will be held on the 24th from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Cafenne in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam, owned by Eunjung and her mother. 100% of the proceeds will go to charity. Other stars including Davichi, Ha Seok Jin, Hwang Jung Eum and Son Ho Joon will join the charity event and auction their own things as well.

So many groups. It's really nice to see who is popular, though. I'm surprised this was in a Year End review of the site. K-Pop fandom game too strong, ya'll. And ohgawd, do I have to tag all of these?! Nope. Nope. Noooope...okay, maybe later.

Choi Jin Hyuk and Song Ji Hyo Marry and Divorce (in a new drama)

Looks like tvN knows a good thing when it sees it, because it’s keeping the new weekend drama timeslot it created for Answer Me 1994 and lining up its follow-up drama: a romantic comedy potentially starring Choi Jin-hyuk and Song Ji-hyo. Offers are out to both actors, who are both said to be favorably considering (decisions not final yet, yada yada yada ops's note: the are confirmed). But that would be a pretty great match-up, wouldn’t it?

The drama is titled Emergency Couple, and is set, aptly enough, in an emergency room. The two leads were married through medical school, but divorced and went their separate ways… until they find themselves working in the same ER. Thus begins their second chance at courtship as initial bickering leads them back to romance.

Which sounds great and all, only… I in no way want my emergency room doctors distracted by sexual-angst-driven bickering! Professionalism please? The drama does promise to depict sincere growth as well as the life-and-death stories of the work in the hospital, so we can hope that the romance works its way into the proceedings in a natural way. (I have an aversion to medical dramas that are really just romance dramas wearing doctor’s gowns.)

It’s about time Choi Jin-hyuk gets to headline his own romantic drama, ’cause the man can sizzle when he’s on and it’s so sad when he doesn’t win his love. He’s gotten sidetracked a bit with some not-so-great dramas (Panda and Hedgehog, It’s Okay Daddy’s Girl) but his star is on the rise and this year solidified his popularity with Gu Family Book and Heirs. Song Ji-hyo hasn’t had a hit drama in a while (her last three being Mandate of Heaven, Gye Baek, and Crime Squad) but she’s got a sassy on-air personality and I’d love to see her in a straight-up rom-com.

Emergency Couple will be directed by PD Kim Chul-kyu, who, yes, has the terrible Paradise Ranch on his resumé but also the better-received cable drama She is Wow from earlier this year, as well as political drama Daemul and historical hit Hwang Jini. Writing is Choi Yoon-jung of the 2002 mania hit Ruler of Your Own World; on the upside, it was a well-regarded drama, but on the downside, she wasn’t the main writer and it’s her only credit.

The drama will follow Answer Me 1994 as tvN’s next Friday-Saturday series, premiering in January.

K-drama stars and their questionable diets

The life of a kdrama star may seem charmed but there is a downside to it. Maintaining those long lean frames and sharp cheekbones means you always have to watch what you eat and how much you exercise. And that's true for both actresses and actors.

However, some actors seem to have more sensible plans than others.

For example, So Ji Sub, the star of "The Master's Sun," knows that he gains weight quickly, so he avoids certain foods and works out.

"Exercise is important, so I wake up at a set time," said the actor. "I regularly exercise two to three hours daily. If I break this pattern for even a day, I gain weight." He does not eat anything special, just skips calorie-rich foods. "I just eat small amounts of the food that I eat normally," he said. "It's better to not eat something than to be distressed after eating it."

"Round Head" Plastic Surgery Seems Excessive, Even for South Korea

For better or worse, South Korea is famous for its plastic surgery. Maybe the procedures help some put a better face forward. One offers a rounder head.

One plastic surgery clinic in Seoul claims to offer the surgery for those "ridiculed" for having a flat or sunken back of the head.

The procedure takes under an hour and involves a small incision. Surgeons use a type of bone cement to create a round head. Yes, bone cement. Apparently, it adheres to the skull, becoming part of the bone and only adding about 20 to 80 grams to the weight of the patient's head.



Round head surgery isn't new; here's a story from 2011 talking about it, and here are photos from 2009 of patients who underwent the procedure. This month, it's once again appeared on South Korean internet forums. However, as far as plastic surgery goes, it certainly doesn't appear to be mainstream in the country. Recently, one South Korean site called the surgery "a bit much."

Perhaps, if someone suffered from an abnormally flat head, plastic surgery would make sense.
There is a condition called "plagiocephaly" or "flat head syndrome" in infants that is corrected by wearing a helmet for several months as the child grows, forming a round skull. Then, there are the rest of us, who might have slept a bit too much on our backs as babies, resulting in a somewhat flat head. That's... okay.

But in the above before-after photos, it's kind of hard to see a marked difference—or maybe I just don't care about the back of people's heads. Some folks, it seems, do.

Omona's Princess Is Leaving JYP! Only Soshi Left Intact Out Of WonSoKa!

JYP Entertainment has published a press release that revealed that Wonder Girl’s Sohee will not be renewing her contract with the agency once it expires on December 21 of this year. They cite the reasons for this split due to her desire to focus on acting. Meanwhile the same press release has stated that fellow Wonder Girl’s members Sunye, Yenny and Yubin have agreed to renew their contracts pending some minor detail clarifications.

We had previously reported in our JYP contract length article that the contract for the original Wonder Girl’s members will end in December of this year. In what seems to be an attempt to put speculations about the future of the Wonder Girls to rest, JYP Entertainment posted a press release on December 11 to clarify what was happening with the contracts for the individual Wonder Girls members.

Earlier in the day of December 11 (KST) , stories about a “A Pink and EXO‘s Game Conversation” began circulating online, becoming a hot issue as the conversation reportedly contained cursing. It started at a certain online community when a post was uploaded with an audio file and a message that said the audio was a recording of an inappropriate conversation between EXO and A Pink.  It was supposedly a conversation held between two EXO members and two A Pink members while playing a popular online game.
