Nichkhun case headed to prosecutors

Gangnam police say that Nichkhun of boy band 2PM will be handed over to prosecutors without detention for hitting a motorbike while driving under the influence.

"We will wind down the investigation on Aug. 9 and send our findings over to the prosecutors' office," said a police spokesperson.

The Thai-American idol singer was booked last month after his car allegedly struck a motorcycle that was entering an intersection. He is accused of driving under the influence.

At the time of incident, according to police, the 24-year-old singer had a blood alcohol level of 0.056 and his driver's license was revoked. He reportedly said he had two cans of beer.

The boy group member and motorcyclist reached a settlement concerning the accident last Thursday.

The release of a new Japanese music album, originally scheduled for next month, has been put on hold. He also did not appear in a "JYP Nation" concert held last Saturday.

G-Dragon Begins Filming New MV Today, Aims for August Comeback

Big Bang’s G-Dragon has started filming a new music video for his upcoming new single, local media Star News reported in an exclusive report.

According to Star News, multiple sources have told them G-Dragon is currently filming his new music video in a studio just outside of Seoul. Starting from today, G-Dragon is expected to film several scenes not just for his new title track, but for other tracks as well, just like he did for his previous solo album. The report added G-Dragon is shooting for a comeback on August 18, the same day as his 24th birthday.

This album would mark G-Dragon’s second solo album, following his debut solo album “Heartbreaker” in 2009. It was the highest-selling solo album in Korea back then.

Meanwhile, YG Entertainment declined to comment on this matter, and no official word has come out regarding G-Dragon’s new album.

Korean-Singaporean girl group Skarf releases debut MV teaser for “Oh! Dance”

Korea and Singapore have collaborated on the production of a new girl group called Skarf!

On August 9th, Skarf unveiled their debut music video teaser for their title track, “Oh! Dance“, and kicked off official preparations for their debut. Their name indicates the collaboration between Korea and Singapore using ‘scarf’, a popular fashion item, as its base. The S stands for Singapore while the c was switched out with the K for Korea. The group is made up of four members from Korea and Singaporean members.

The 15 second teaser is short but just enough to show the mysterious yet fresh image the girls are going for as goddesses of a forest garden.

Skarf will be making their debut with a showcase on the 14th.

FT Island to release 4th album in September

FT Island will be holding their 2-day concert, "TAKE FTISLAND," on September 1st and 2nd.

According to their agency, FNC Entertainment, on August 9th, "FT Island will have a concert on September 1st and 2nd in Seoul at the Olympic Hall, Olympic Park for 'TAKE FTISLAND.' After the concert, FT Island will release their 4th studio album (expected in September) and will begin their promotional activities."

In January, FT Island released their album, "GROWN UP," and promoted the track, "Severely." It has been 8 months since that album's release.

Meanwhile, FT Island released their 8th Japanese single, "Top Secret," on August 8th, ranking 5th on the Oricon Daily Chart for singles.

WSJ: Psy Reveals All About ‘Gangnam Style’

For many overseas K-pop fans, Psy emerged out of nowhere with his stunningly popular ‘Gangnam Style’ dance track and hilarious music video. But in fact, he’s been around more than a decade and has a successful career as singer-songwriter in South Korea, where he’s well known for his humorous, catchy music. The release on July 15 of ‘Gangnam Style’ has seen his profile explode internationally. The Journal spoke to him about his music career and the success of THAT insanely addictive song.

Here are some excerpts from the interview.

Did you expect ‘Gangnam Style’ to become this popular?
No, I didn’t expect it at all. Of course every time I write a song, I hope people like my music. But since I’ve been always a singer for the local market, it never occurred to me that people outside the country would listen to my music. I didn’t even have overseas fans. When I wrote the song, I had only one thing in mind — to create a fun song.
