[Cookie Entertainment] The presence of 2010 disappeared and the new 2011 is bright on the horizon. Everyone is getting busy in order to greet the New Year. This goes same for BEAST who had continued to run without stopping with the songs ‘Shock’, ‘Easy’, ‘Clenching The Fists Tight’, ‘Breath’, and ‘Beautiful’ last year.

Making the statements ‘Boys of East Standing Tall’ and ‘beastly group to conquer the music industry’ a reality, BEAST had been chosen as the idol group to watch out for in 2011. Also, their hotly popularity could be found in their presence as well. Whenever BEAST attends music programs or award shows, the crowd cheering is so loud that the anticipation continues to grow for them.

We have met with the 6 member male group BEAST at the recording scene of the KBS 2TV ‘Music Bank’ to talk about their activities going back and forth between Korea and Japan.

BoA's a DBSK stan, nothing new

BoA made her big comeback this year for her 10th Anniversary in Korea. She released "Hurricane Venus" after 5 years of hiatus. During her promotions, fans have seen her become closer to other SM artists that have made their debut while she was away, such as SHINee.

Now, BoA has recently tweeted her support for TVXQ's big comeback! When the music video for "Why (Keep Your Head Down)" was released, BoA gave a link on her Twitter, and showed her excitement for the duo. Fans tweeted back saying, "So cool~" and "BoA unni DBSK is really cool!! >_<".

Knock Out banned on KBS, SBS & MBC

GD&TOP’s third title track, “Knock Out“, has been banned from all three public broadcasting networks.

KBS, MBC, and SBS stated that the reason for the ban was because the title and lyrics used slang, which they believed would damage the national psyche. The song itself has been popular on music charts, and news of the song’s ban quickly became a controversy amongst fans and netizens alike. The majority are of the belief that the ban is “ridiculous and out of line.”

One netizen commented, “TV dramas are allowed to show adultery, violence, swears, and even sexual abuse. I cannot understand why they would say that the expressions used in ‘Knock Out’ is a problem.”

Representatives of YG Entertainment commented, “The song has already been released to the public, and we cannot edit the title or the song just because the public broadcast networks ban it. We won’t be editing anything that damages the original meaning of the song.”

G-Dragon had previously revealed that he drew inspiration for the song’s Korean title, ‘Bbeokigayo,’ from the MBC drama, “My Name is Kim Sam Soon“, since it was an expression used by the leading character.

GD&TOP has decided to jump over their triple track promotion by promoting an additional two songs, making it a total of five tracks they will be promoting this cycle.

Lee Seon-kyun is expecting his second child

Just over a year after becoming a father for the first time, Lee Seon-kyun, aka Chep, aka Mr. Voice, has announced that he and wife (actress Jeon Hye-jin) are expecting their second child.

As of the New Year’s Eve announcement by Lee’s management, Jeon is currently seven weeks pregnant and healthy. Their first child was born in November 2009, a son, just before shooting his drama hit early last year (last year!), workplace romantic-comedy Pasta. Prior to that, he was busy working on the drama Triple when he married, and now he’s busy filming King of Arrests, a comedy with Haeundae’s Park Joong-hoon.

And that’s on top of the bazillion projects he was involved in in the meantime, like a Drama Special segment with Hwang Woo-seul-hye, Oki’s Movie with Jung Yumi, Petty Romance with Choi Kang-hee… will the man never rest?

Eunjung defends Suzy against acting criticisms

KBS 2TV’s “Dream High” finally aired its pilot episode today, but seems to be off to a rocky start with several controversies stemming from just the pilot airing alone.

The episode managed to record 10.7% in viewer ratings, lagging behind SBS’s “Athena: Goddess of War” and MBC’s “Queen of Reversals,” both of which recorded 16.3% and 14.2% respectively.

Prior to the pilot’s airing, viewers were highly concerned over the all idol cast line-up, since half of them don’t have prior acting experience. Opinions on the drama remain divided, and at the center of the controversy stands miss A’s Suzy, who plays the role of ‘Hyemi.’

Since she is the leading role for the drama, viewers were left disappointed with her poor acting skills and criticized her for speaking as if she was reading out of a book. 2PM’s Wooyoung, who plays the role of ‘Jason,’ was also criticized for his awkward facial expressions despite only having to say a handful of lines.

Viewers commented, “It was to the point where I couldn’t even continue watching,” “She’s the queen of horrible acting,” “In her group, Suzy is in charge of the visual, and it seems like she’s trying to raise viewer ratings with her face again,” and “They’re not even ready to be standing in front of the screen.”

In comparison, T-ara’s Eunjung and 2PM’s Taecyeon both received high remarks, as they both have acting experience from “Coffee House” and “Cinderella’s Sister” respectively.

It was also IU’s first acting debut, but she fortunately managed to dodge criticisms as she only appeared wearing an animal suit for the majority of her part.

Regarding the controversy surrounding Suzy’s acting, Eunjung spoke with Star News on January 4th and commented, “Suzy’s doing well despite it being her first time acting. I have a lot of lines with her so I pay close attention to her acting. She’s confidently trying to do her best. It’s inevitable for her to feel nervous, and although strict criticisms are needed, please continue to watch over her.”

Kim Kwangsoo explains the decision on T-ara's future in Japan

T-ara has been receiving endless love calls from popular music agencies in Japan, however, just like last year, T-ara has decided to take their Japanese advancement slowly.

But why?

On January 4th, Core Contents Media told Money Today Star News, “Ever since their popular hits “Bo Peep Bo Peep” and “I’m Going Crazy Because of You” last year, T-ara have been receiving endless calls from Japanese agencies. We filmed a Japanese CF together with Supernova last year, however, we’ve always made cautious decisions regarding advancements music-wise.”

As the Japanese market is currently favoring the successful advancement of girl groups SNSD & KARA, T-ara’s much more cautious approach on this matter have gotten both fans and other Korean agencies wondering on Core Content Media’s reasons behind this approach.

Kim Kwangsoo, CEO of Core Contents Media, explains, "T-ara has received alot of offers, and they are very big offers, too, from major japanese labels. We are in the final step of negotiations, but we are still extremely careful. The members are currently enjoying success as soloists and are very busy."

He continued, “This is why Eunjung, Jiyeon, Hyomin, Soyeon and Boram participated in acting, variety, and musical activities throughout last year. We will continue with that approach this year, and we feel this is strengthening the endurance of the members.”

Kim concluded, “Since we have more plans in mind after their various schedules, we have been taking the Japanese advancement into cautious consideration. However, as we are still receiving calls from Japanese agencies, we expect to share good news in the near future.”

Queen Boram's fans donate 300kg of rice to malnourished children

On January 2nd at the Art Center in Seoul was delivered a package to cheer on 'I Really Really Like You' and fans joined in on a rice donation.

T-ara's 'DC Gallery' and Borams' fansite, 'JeonBoram.com' and T-ara's international fansite, 'Diadem' 보람있는 뮤지컬 보러 왔다가 오! 정화 까지 됐네요', '보람아. Multiple packages with a cheering message and 20kg of rice had been sent, with the message 'Boramah! Let's home run your musical!' For 'I Really Really Like You', Boram fans donated a total of 300kg of rice. The rice will be given to malnourished children under Boram's name.

The musical 'I Really Really Like You' premiered first in June of 2008 and contained popular pop music for elders. This maintains a brilliant cast and includes Jeon Youngrok, Supernova's Sungje, and T-ara's Jeon Boram which has attracted attention.

After School to comeback this March

After School will be returning as a nine-member group this March!

On January1st, Pledis Entertainment spoke with Star News and revealed, “After School will be releasing their album as early as March. Their latest addition, Noh Lee Young, will be joining them, so please look forward to a new nine-membered After School.”

After School debuted with the concept of ‘admissions’ and ‘graduations,’ just like a real school. Through auditions, they’ve been adding members since their debut in 2009, starting with UEE, then Raina and Nana, Lizzy, and more recently, Noh Lee Young.

Noh Lee Young was first introduced at MBC’s “2010 Gayo Daejun” held on December 31st and appeared in the middle of the group’s “Bang!” performance with an impressive guitar break. Despite her introduction being short, she’s already left quite the impression on viewers and netizens.

She’s also the winner of the 2007 and 2008 Geumsang and Daesang at the Kangwon-do Teen Gayo Festival, and will be graduating from high school this February.

N.Korea state agency starts video service

North Korea's official news agency began posting video footage on its website this week after bolstering its online propaganda via popular websites such as Twitter and YouTube.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) posted its first video footage on January 1, showing general views of Pyongyang and its citizens, on its Japanese-language service.

Its website has so far posted four video reports, including one of a rally in Pyongyang attended by 100,000 people, some of whom held portraits of leader Kim Jong-Il and his late father, Kim Il-Sung, the communist state's founder.
The 64-year-old KCNA provides photos and news in Korean and English. Spanish- and Japanese-language services were launched recently.

North Korea, one of the world's most tightly controlled states, joined Twitter under the name @uriminzok ("our own nationals") in August last year, months after its foray on to the popular video-sharing site, YouTube.

N. Korea stuck 30 years behind: Chinese official

Chinese diplomats said modern-day North Korea resembles China some three decades ago due to a fear of change that is deeply embedded in its history, a U.S. diplomatic cable revealed.

According to a cable spread on WikiLeaks, Cheng Yonghua, former Chinese ambassador to Seoul, said today’s North Korea was similar to China during the Cultural Revolution in the 1960s and 70s and dealing with officials there required that he “mentally reset his personal clock by thirty years.”

The remarks were made during a dinner in December 2009 between Cheng and U.S. Ambassador to Seoul Kathleen Stephens.
Cheng regretted that Pyongyang had not yet followed China’s model of reform led by the late Deng Xiaoping, noting that before the reform the North had largely followed Beijing’s lead.

Another Chinese diplomat attending the dinner, political counselor Chen Hai, said the North’s failure to keep up with the times reflected Korea’s history of being a small country surrounded by greater powers. For that reason, a sustained message from the U.S. that a better future was possible could have a positive effect on the regime, he said.

Ambassador Cheng, now the top Chinese envoy in Japan, urged Washington not to wait too long in contemplating its next steps and to resume dialogues with the North, adding that Pyongyang could not be patient enough to get back to negotiations “because of Kim Jong-il’s health conditions and its implications for regime succession.”

The North walked away from the six-party talks on its denuclearization earlier that year in response to sanctions imposed for its provocative nuclear and missile tests.

Recent images of the North Korean leader have shown him to be frail but some analysts say he has shown some signs of recovery since reportedly suffering a stroke in 2008.

Experts say the North will attempt to resume the multilateral denuclearization talks this year in a bid to secure aid to bolster the succession process of Kim’s youngest son, Kim Jong-un.

Actor Choi ChulHo Reflects on Drunk Violence Scandal, “I Want To Live Peacefully”

Last May proved to be a life changing time in actor Choi ChulHo‘s life as he was caught hitting a woman by a surveillance camera. Having apologized and reflected on his great mistake, the actor hopes to live peacefully as he makes changes in his life.

Choi ChulHo was caught in a scandal as it was revealed that he had hit a woman while in a drunken state. His image was greatly affected after the actor tried to cover up the situation with lies, but the truth was exposed through a surveillance camera. Ever since having withdrawn from the MBC drama, Dong Yi, Choi ChulHo has kept to himself, but has now given in to news reporters as he talks to them about his current life. “At this time in my life I am working on quitting alcohol and smoking, I really want to move towards leading a new life for the sake of my family,” he shared.

The actor also spoke more about his initial lies to cover up his scandal, “During that time, [the lie] was told in the spur of a moment, because of that, these are the consequences. I sincerely feel apologetic for my mistakes.” Although the scandal hit his popularity and career, Choi ChulHo feels his family has suffered more, “To be completely honest, my wife (Kim HyeSuk) is the one who is suffering more than me, but she is constantly guiding me to life with each other’s trust. It’s her warm comfort that gave me the most support.”

Meanwhile, Choi ChulHo has volunteered at many local non-profit organizations in order to help him reflect on his mistakes and quit alcohol and his smoking habit. On whether he would make an acting comeback, he revealed, “I just want to lead a quiet and peaceful life and become a better person. Right now I don’t have any specific plans.”

T-ara throws a party for Maden's 1st birthday!

 On KBS Joy's "Tara's Hello Baby", the girls decided to throw a party for the youngest of the Moon brothers, Maden, as he turns 1!

For the party, Hwayoung showed off her rapping skills by freestyling in front of the people present. Soyeon and Hyomin also entertained by singing a trot song.

The highlight of every 1st birthday party is the DolJabI, where the baby chooses from a variety of toys on the table. From this, it is said that whatever he chooses determines his future on Earth. Many are curious as to what Maden picked from the table!

Even with T-ara's jam packed schedule, they found time to organize and throw a party for Maden, but that wasnt the end, as members started to read messages for Moon Maden.

It was surprising as some of the T-ara girls even cried. The parents of the Moon brothers were present as well and were also brought to tears by T-ara's kindness.

Andy Gets Promoted To Corporal

On January of last year he enlisted the military service as active duty and has been serving in the Defense Media Agency, Entertainment Division and for the last time he received a Corporal promotion. Andy stated, " I'm doing well and I am healthy" also was promoted to Corporal for a new agency.

In Addition, members of group Teen Top sent Andy a cheerful message. Members of Teen Top wrote, " Congratulations on your Corporal promotion big brother Andy", "Be careful of catching a cold", " We love you". "When you get your vacation should we eat something nice?!",

Meahwhile, Andy will be discharged in October of this year.

But G-Dragon (GD) and T.O.P are musicians who can do both. They spoke only of their music throughout our interview with them and talked about the thoughts they injected into their music. Whether you agree with their music or not, we recommend you read this interview to hear what the two have to say about their music. This is what it means for these two young men in their early 20s, regarded as idols stars, to make their own music and present it to people.

10: How does it feel having to work together during Christmas time? (laugh)
T.O.P: We feel sorry for each other. (laugh)

10: I feel bad that I'm interviewing you as well. (laugh) It’s been a week since you resumed your activities. How has the reaction been so far?
GD: We have to accept that we’ve been on a long break. (laugh) In the past, we really felt the heated response we'd get at once but it doesn't feel quite the same now that it's been two years since we've been Big Bang. I think that from now on, we'll receive attention from people depending on how we do. If necessary, I might appear in some variety shows to attract attention so that people will watch us perform.
T.O.P: I’m not quite sure yet. The album was released just yesterday and it's great to hear that a lot of copies have been sold so far. But I think it’ll take some time before I will really start feeling it.

Surry Aussie Shawols - NO SHINEE FOR YOU~

We have previously reported that SHINee will have a concert in Australia. However, it seems like Australian Shawols will have to depend on luck to see SHINee live, because no concert tickets are being exposed to the public.

Arirang will be picking out 100 winners and awarding them double passes to the concert. All other seats will go to sponsors and institutions and only those with an invite will be able to attend. In addition, JK Entertainment has stated that the venue can only hold 2,000 people.

Many Australian Shawols are incredibly disappointed with this news, as this might have been their only chance to see the boys live. Were you planning to attend the concert?

Meet Siwon's Rich Papa

What Makes South Koreans Unhappy?

South Korea has reached a per-capita GDP of US$20,000, while its economy is the world's 13th largest, but South Koreans are far from happy. According to a Gallup poll, the number of South Koreans who are happy about their lives decreased 10 percent between 1992 and 2010 when the country's per-capita GDP grew threefold. The country consistently ranks at the bottom in various happiness indices around the world.

The Chosun Ilbo, in conjunction with Gallup and Global Market Insight, surveyed 5,190 people in South Korea, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Canada, the U.S., Brazil, Denmark, and Finland on Dec. 16-24. The results show that South Koreans are fatigued by a persistent yearning for material wealth and the constant threat of an attack from North Korea. As a result, the country has the highest proportion of people wishing to emigrate among the 10 surveyed countries.

Yesung's gift to his parents

Idol group Super Junior sure is different compared to normal people when fulfilling their practice of filial piety. On the January 3rd broadcast episode on MBC‘s Come to Play, Yesung revealed the generous gift that he had given to his parents as a present once.

The singer was asked, “When were you most satisfied after fulfilling your duty as a filial son to your parents?” To this, he replied saying that he had gave a hotel to his parents before. Yesung proudly said, “I left my home and didn’t live with my parents for a long time, but right now I hope to live with them again. This time as a present, I helped my parents move and live in Seoul, and I gave them a small shop that needs some repairing.” He continued, saying, “It used to be a small inn, but considering that my mom would work too much in the kitchen and get too tired, we are considering to remodel it to a small cafe.”

Displaying his extreme filial nature and love for his parents, Super Junior’s Yesung seems like the perfect son that any parent would be proud of.

The interest in Korean entertainment from Chinese media has seem to gone a bit overboard.

One Chinese paper claimed, "Korean top stars Song Hye Gyo and Hyun Bin have broken up." They reported that the reason for the break up was that the two could not meet often. They concluded their reasoning for stating so is because Hyun Bin did not thank Song Hye Gyo when he won an award at the 2010 SBS Acting Awards. Also included was the fact that Song Hye Gyo was silent during a question regarding Hyun Bin at a Taiwanese press conference.

It doesn't end there. The Chinese media has stated, "Yoona in Adult Video" due to the fact that someone that looks similar to her was in a Japanese adult video titled 美脚傳說. The stars of the movie are also on the cover wearing similar marine outfits to what SNSD was wearing during their "Genie" activities. This media outlet have also stated, "Yoona got plastic surgery on her eyes, nose, and lips which is why her face looks different." This plastic surgery accusation has also caused much surprise.

Once such false and malicious reports were made rather than Song Hye Gyo, Hyun Bin, or SM Entertainment, it is the netizens that are more upset. Some users commented, "They causing malicious scars.
