Real-life couple HyunA, Dawn release first EP together

K-pop songstress HyunA and rapper-songwriter Dawn have released their first duet album together after being in a relationship for more than five years, a work the singer claims was "never" meant to happen.

"I was never going to do it, but the word 'never' should never be used," HyunA said during an online press conference Thursday, an hour before the EP "1+1=1" dropped at 6 p.m. "I was amazed by how perfectly we worked together."

The title track of the four-track album is "Ping Pong," a Moombahton dance song that captures the playfulness of two people in love. The song and the lyrics were co-written by Dawn and HyunA.

BLACKPINK's Lisa fuses K-pop and Thai culture on solo album

Lisa of K-pop girl group BLACKPINK has pulled off something that only a few singers are capable of ― felicitously blending K-pop and the culture of Thailand, her native country.

The YG Entertainment star, and one of the very few Thai nationals in the K-pop scene, unleashed her first solo album, "LALISA," on Friday afternoon (KST). Lisa said that she added "Thai-style sounds" to the album's namesake lead single, which is a hip-hop tune with brass riffs and dynamic rhythms.

"The album and the lead track are titled after my full name, Lalisa Manoban, and through them, I want to display who I truly am," Lisa said during an online press conference held a few hours ahead of the album's release.

MBC given slap on the wrist for discriminatory Olympic broadcasts

Local broadcaster MBC was given non-binding administrative guidance from the Korean Communications Standards Commission, Thursday, for using offensive or stereotyped images to depict some countries during the opening ceremony of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Now, the commission is drawing a backlash for handing out such a mild punishment for the discriminatory and inappropriate description of other countries that drew criticism both within Korea and from abroad.

During a meeting, the commission decided only to "advise" MBC not to repeat such an offense by issuing administrative guidance, which does not affect the commission's future evaluation of the broadcaster. The decision contradicted initial expectations that MBC might receive a "warning," which would affect the commission's future evaluation of the broadcaster.

Hey party people, it’s Friday! I’m happy because even though my birthday isn’t until next week, I already have 3 cakes in the fridge. One of the cakes I just found on my doorstep with no note. It’s a 4 layer red velvet and I’m keeping it. Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and post the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the 2nd week in September, 2009. And since I’m in a good mood (because cake), it’s ladies night! Queens and more queens delivering bops and more bops!



#3 Baek Ji Young featuring Taecyeon “My Ear’s Candy”
This was the lead single from her EP “EGO”. A departure from her usual ballads, this was a banger. Baek Ji Young reportedly chose 2PM’s Taceyon to feature after hearing “10 Out Of 10”. The two of them would perform this song at her manager’s wedding with costumes and choreo, which is both fun and funny. Like, explain that to grandma lol. The song would only win one trophy at the year end award shows, but honestly 2009 gave us too many good songs!

Byeon Woo-seok to co-star with Kim Yoo-jung in Netflix series

Actor Byeon Woo-seok will be starring in the new Netflix original series, "20th Century Girl," with Kim Yoo-jung, the actor's agency VARO Entertainment announced, Wednesday, adding that he has been confirmed in the lead role of Poong Woon-ho in the upcoming movie.

The series will follow the intertwined loves and friendships of a girl named Na Bo-ra (Kim). In 1999, a year before the new century, Bo-ra is a seventeen-year-old girl who is athletic and extremely loyal to her friends. To her, friendship comes before love.

But she faces complex emotions when she experiences a sweet but heartbreaking first love, going through a rite of passage. Her love comes knocking on her door again years later into the 21st century.

Batman's family adventures launched as original webtoon series

DC Comics and Naver have released a brand new, original webtoon series of "Batman" on the popular digital Webtoon platform, Thursday, as part of their partnership to introduce the unique universe and characters from the global entertainment titan's intellectual property in the form of webtoons, or digital comics published and read online.

The new Batman story, "Batman: Wayne Family Adventures," exists outside of the main DC Batman chronology. It takes a step back from the usual action-packed scenes in the city of Gotham and instead offers family dynamics and adventures within Wayne Manor between the Dark Knight and his "endless supply of adopted, fostered and biological superhero children," the synopsis reads.

The first three episodes are already live on Naver Webtoon's English and Spanish platforms, targeting American and European audiences, and will be made available in other languages, including Korean, soon. Each new chapter will be published every Thursday (local time).
