Hi everyone! How's everyone doing??

Week went pretty good, nothing much to report on except for 2 things. I found out what my biggest pet peeve is. People sucking their teeth. You know that horrible noise they make while sucking on their teeth and never stop? That's the worst thing, especially when it's someone behind you on the bus!

Also. I've been watching for the 10th time The Nanny. Fran Fine is such an icon and I want every piece of clothing she wears on that show! Iconic!

I've written 10K good words (not that I'm a writer, but these are finished stories, posted and shit) in 10 days I'm doing great!!!!!

If I'm being honest I feel like kpop has been quite boring and safe these past few months, even Sunmi (whom I adore) would get a lot more shit from me if she wasn't Sunmi.

I've litterally just learned that a person in my professional network suddenly died last week. She was 35 :( It wasn't covid. She changed jobs last year, and I just had work calls and mails the year before that but still I'm honestly shaken up, I need a minute.

Okay I finally got around to listening to the entirety of Key's I Wanna Be/Face album, and I. LOVE. IT! I would rank it as my second favorite solo work after Taemin's - it edges Kai's by just a but for me. Speaking of sm solo work, and this may be an unpopular opinion lol, but while I know, objectively, that Baekhyun has the stronger voice out of the three, the more radio-friendly songs and the numbers to boot, I can never get into him. Like I will listen to his album once, nod to myself that I like it well enough and then move on to never listen to it again. I just..don't find him captivating as a performer or as a person/a for the matter 😬.

A few weeks back I started school again (it's a one-year program) studying graphic design (which I've studied before and am looking for work in atm but this is kind of meant to add on to my existing knowledge).

The first weeks were a little stressful because I felt a little uncreative and insecure being with all these other very creative people lol (especially just coming out of a long burnout/creative block) but the course we just finished today was kinda fun and I'm enjoying being back to school at least for a little while and doing all these creative design-related projects. This course was about illustrating and visualizing concepts which I've always liked doing.

so i wrote a very long and embarrassing rant on stereotype here since im too embarrassed to do it on twitter lol.

I actually wrote down a bunch of things but my thoughts are all over the place so I don't really know where to begin. I guess I'll start with what I actually like about the song.
I love the chorus part, and I love the synths so much as well as the actual notes (?) of the synths. I especially love Isa's final chorus part. I don't think the chorus part needs a hook afterwards like a lot of people said. You know in the MV teasers when they have the EN intro, then immediately afterwards they play the instrumental of the chorus part with the "oohs"? I wish they could've kept that exactly as is. It's a shame the chorus part in the final song doesn't have the "oohs" but tbh I don't think it would've worked out. Regardless, the chorus part is easily my favorite part. IDK if this counts as well, but I LOVED the concept trailer as well. The narration was so weeb and I eat that shit up. Esp at the end of the video where they start teasing the instrumental of Stereotype and the narration about the stars or whatever. God that was so fucking good lol.

But I think this was the downfall of the teasers too. All the teasers only featured the chorus part - the best part. I think between the teaser from the concept trailer I just mentioned/the snippet of the song from the MV teasers/the chorus part being super upbeat, I think the song could've worked as their debut song as they seemed to hint. But it honestly feels like they wrote the chorus part first and then wrote the rest of the song around it, or like they didn’t know what to do with the rest of the song. So you can imagine how bummed I was when the rest of the song wasn't as upbeat as the chorus.

This is where it gets super cr*nge lmao. Between the MV teasers, sound of the chorus part being teased over and over, and the summer vibes from the MV, the teasers made it seem like this song was really about living your best life. It made me want to go out and live my best life too, and never in my almost 11 years of being a kpop fan have I experienced that with a song or even a teaser before (like when they were slow mo running in the field, I wanted to be there with them too!!). I knew better as a longtime kpop fan to let myself get super invested and get my hopes up with a teaser. No joke this teaser was stuck in my head 24-7 from the time I woke up. But it just sounded so good and it had been awhile since I had gotten burned from a teaser so I thought I was safe but I wasn't. I got so, so burned lmao.

I ended up liking the song. But I'm ngl, I've cried a few times since it came out. This is gonna sound stupid but I really mourn the potential the song had. Like it really had SOTY potential for me based on the teasers and could've been up there with Hi High as my all time favorite kpop songs. Like I said, I still like it and I love the chorus part, but the rest of the song doesn't hold a candle to the chorus part and so the song isn't my favorite overall. I wish someone could take the chorus part and make another song with it. But even if someone could and was willing to do that, this song already exists so it's not going to happen lol.

But wait, it gets even more cr*nge!! It almost feels like if you meet someone a few times, and you don't really know them but you build an image of them inside your head from the few times you've met them. And you build them up to be this amazing person. But then you meet them again and really get to know them and they're not the person you built up in your head so you're disappointed. But you only have yourself to blame for letting yourself get invested in someone you didn't know well.

That's my literal five paragraph essay on my thoughts on the song lol. I just feel this way because I cared about the song so much so it sucks it turned out the way it did. Anyways, if you read all of that you're something else.

hi omona! how are you doing? hope you've survived the week + are ready for a fun, relaxing weekend :)

work is kicking my butt at the moment! i've only started about 2 weeks ago and i'm already exhausted lol! i've immediately had to organize and host some extra events/activities i'm involved with which prevented me to develop a solid work rhythm which frustrates me quite a lot. every time i tried to delegate it backfired on me lol! at least my coworkers have been very appreciative. after next week i'm hoping to just be able to mostly focus on my teaching...

for the rest, i've been trying to relax a lot because this extra work has also been draining me socially! i've picked up crocheting again and continued hotel del luna and also started run on, which i'm both enjoying a lot now!

what are your plans this weekend? i'm having a belated mother's day high tea with my mom on sat and going to a demonstration on sun.

Any californians here? I'm terrified of the recall election. Too many dems are complacent and think that Newsom won't be recalled. I think he has a higher chance of being recalled than not. For me, song of the summer is Permission to Dance. The main reason is the good things that have been happening because they used Sign Language in the video. The Deaf community is dear to me, I love sign language, and BTS adding that signing just spread so much joy. (apparently inspired by V because he is learning sign language)

I am dreading this weekend, going to stay largely off the usual socials but too many people are posting bad, sad images from 9/11. With that, Covid fatigue, Texas becoming Gilead, etc. etc. It's just all too much. I need a hobby outside my home. I am so introverted, but I am seeing now that I work from home, I am almost never leaving and I think it is deteriorating my mind and body.

Sorry that was not more uplifting. On a plus side, thanks to a recent bonus, I was able to pay forward some $$ to people who need a hand. That always helps uplift my soul.

Oh, I also watched Joey Graceffa's video... he is fostering a pregnant doggie and he filmed the whole birth. She had 9 babies, so far.... he left the video with a teaser like maybe more come later!!! It's graphic and real and he was able to save one who come out not breathing. Pretty awesome.

Messy, complicated relationships aside, work has been a lot more forgiving. Moved out of the house finally and while I was initially apprehensive, I'm having the time of my life. No family drama and I feel like I've grown closer with my family because I'm away from them. Our city and the city I moved to aren't really that far apart (20 minutes without traffic) but boy am I celebrating freedom (safely, COVID restrictions and all).
