WHAT WILL KOREA'S HOTTEST NEW RAP GROUP LEARN ABOUT HIP-HOP FROM COOLIO ON THEIR TRIP TO AMERICA?

On the first day of hip-hop school, the seven members of Korean hip-hop group BTS sit anxiously in a Skid Row apartment waiting to meet their first teacher. They speculate over who it could be. Could it be Dr. Dre? The boys are big fans of his headphones. Or what if it’s Snoop Dogg, who recently collaborated with PSY? But who are they kidding? It’s not like they’re seasoned superstars Big Bang or 2NE1. Actually, BTS just made it past the rookie stage this year, and they’re not even on one of k-pop’s Big Three labels (SM, YG, JYP). So it’s only fitting that the person to walk through the door, in a cap with strategically placed cutouts for his Pippi Longstocking pigtails, is 90s rapper Coolio. Rap Monster, the group’s leader, seems to be the only one who recognizes him.

BTS are here, in Los Angeles, meeting with one of the hundred or so most famous rappers of the 90s, as part of a reality show called BTS American Hustle Life. As the title suggests, the show promises to show BTS, who are releasing their first full-length album Dark & Wild on August 20, exactly what it's like to make it in America as a rap star. The cameras will follow the group for two weeks in Los Angeles as they get schooled in hip-hop. If that premise seems a little ridiculous, it is: hip-hop credibility is generally built through knowing the culture, while the world of k-pop tends to be blatantly inauthentic. But here they are, and Coolio is going to help them, dammit.

VIXX’s Ken will be making his drama debut next month!

Starring alongside such stars including Tiny-G’s Dohee and ZE:A’s Dongjun, Ken will debut as an actor through a brand new sitcom titled “Boarding House 24; that will air through MBC Every1. Ken is the third idol to have been confirmed as part of the cast, as Jewelry’s Park Semi and Rainbow’s Hyunyoung are still in discussion.

So far, main characters’ personas vary from meokbang jockeys to lost news broadcasters; in Ken’s case, his character will be a first time dater who has had no previous experience – a motae solo. Contrary to VIXX’s dark and charismatic concepts, Ken is said to be portrayed in a completely different light, as according to his agency.

All in all, Ken will be the first member of VIXX to step out into the drama industry.

He is currently reported to be practicing hard for the sitcom’s episodes, following his recent track “My Girl” for Part 5 of the “You Are My Destiny” OST. In related news, fellow member Leo and singer Lyn are still promoting their duo ballad track, “Blossom Tears.”

Fly to the Sky will once again be reunited with their former company, SM Entertainment, as they perform with the rest of the SM Artists for tomorrow’s SM Town World Tour Concert.

Along with the other famous groups in the company, Fly to the Sky will be performing some of their famous songs and will also be collaborating with company juniors EXO’S D.O. and Super Junior’s Ryeowook.

Fly to the Sky debuted in 1999 under SM Entertainment and on 2004, their contracts finally ended. They still managed to keep their group name but have then proceeded to do solo activities for the time being. Fly to the Sky recently reunited as a duo once again and returned with their song “You, You, You“.

World star Rain, who is known for his luxurious body, revealed his hidden fantasies about food.

On August 13, Rain wrote on his Twitter, “I’m hungry… I really really want to feel what it’s like to chew. I want my tongue to feel like its ripping apart from the spiciness. The happiness of eating, happiness you can feel. I want to eat something so salty you have to drink water. I want to feel. I want to take acid reflux medication. I want to forget my goal. Why do I have so much greed for food.” His monologue was made complete with a photo of Ddukbokki, spicy rice cakes.

Rain was recently cast in the SBS drama “My Lovely Girl,” which is set to air after “It’s Okay It’s Love.” The drama is a fantasy-romance, and it will center around South Korea’s greatest entertainment company. It is expected to make a premiere on September 17.

“Superstar K2” contestant and artist Park Bo Ram has unveiled how she managed to lose 32 kilograms (70 pounds) while preparing for her debut.

Singer Lee Hyori has been the subject of dating rumors before. She will admit to dating one actor, although she won't say who it is. But on a recent episode of the SBS show "Magic Eye," she did want to clarify that it was not Rain.

The rumor said that a g.o.d member supposedly called up Rain randomly on a live radio broadcast, and Rain picked up, saying, "Hyung, I slept with Lee Hyori."

I haven't read the book being reviewed so I can't be sure, but it doesn't really sound like it's breaking new ground in terms of research on kpop, i imagine it would read similar to most of the other books out there on the subject
