‘Our Neighborhood’s Master of Variety and Sports’ is becoming the new blue chip of KBS variety shows.

According to Nielsen Korea, the episode of KBS 2TV’s variety show ‘Our Neighborhood’s Master of Variety and Sports’ that aired on the 20th scored a nationwide viewership of 8.4%. This is a 0.9% rise from last week’s episode (7.5%). It is slowly but surely gaining popularity.

This day’s episode followed the badminton match between the celebrity team and the Busan Doogu-dong team.

Snowpiercer to close Deauville American Film Festival

Snowpiercer 설국열차 has been set as the closing film of the 39th Deauville American Film Festival (30 Aug — 8 Sep 2013). It is the science fiction film's first announced international public screening.

The English-language South Korean film, about an uprising on a train among the last survivors of the human race, will have its international premiere on 7 Sep in the presence of director BONG Joon-ho 봉준호 | 奉俊昊.

There are no other Asian films in the selection of the French festival that launched in 1975 as a celebration of North American cinema. The seaside resort also hosts an Asian film festival in March.

Snowpiercer will open in France on 30 Oct through Wild Side Films in association with Le Pacte. The Deauville festival is organised by Cinema Public Films | Le Public Système Cinéma, that is also the film's local public relations firm.

By Tuesday night, Snowpiercer had taken ￦59.8 billion (US$53.5 million) on 8.35 million admissions in South Korea.

SISTAR'S 2ND CONCERT SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER (!!!!!!!)

According to an August 22 announcement by Sistar’s agency, Starship Entertainment, the group (Hyo Lyn, Da Som, Bora, So You) will hold the second solo live concert since the group’s debut.


Titled S, the concert will be held on October 12 at the Olympic Hall in Seoul Olympic Park, Songpa-Gu, Seoul. It has been a year since Sistar held the first solo concert, titled Femme Fatale, last September.

The group debuted in June 2010 and they have made a hit every time they have released a song, including “How Dare You,” “So Cool,” “Alone,” “Loving You,” and “Give It To Me.” This success in the music download market has people wondering if they will enjoy equal success in live stage performances.

The agency says, “Sistar still has a lot to show everyone. Their passion for performing will make for an outstanding concert, turning expectations into imagination and imagination into reality.”

This weekend's KCON aims for an intimate take on the high-energy music.

Among the many things to do at this weekend's Korean pop culture convention KCON -- sets by K-pop stars G-Dragon and 2AM, business panels on exporting K-pop and Korean cooking classes among them -- some of the most interesting events are about how to become a K-pop star yourself.

Throughout the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena are panels on "Developing K-pop Songwriting Skills," "The Art of Remixing and Sampling K-Pop" and "How I Became a K-Pop Choreographer." You can drop by a space devoted to learning the dance moves from K-pop videos, or a seminar on beauty tips to prime your face for the K-pop spotlight.

As the "hallyu" wave of fun, futuristic South Korean pop culture dominates Asia and continues its inroads in America with acts such as Girls Generation and 2NE1 signing to major U.S. labels, fans here have a growing curiosity about how it all gets made. KCON is there to show them.

F.T. Island are going all out for their 6th anniversary with a special concert and album this September!

The idol band will hold their solo concert 'FTHX', the first domestic concert they'll be having in a year, in Olympic Hall, Seoul on September 28-29. As you can tell from the title, 'FTHX' is a combination of F.T. Island and 'THANX' to express the band's gratitude towards their fans who've been with them through thick and thin since their debut in 2007.

Fans will be able to purchase tickets for the concert through YES24 starting on the 22nd. F.T. Island will continue the celebration with the release of their self-created special album on September 23 KST!

Girls’ Generation’s Yoona, who was featured in a brand new Innisfree concept, recently did a spectacular photoshoot. The company claims the photoshoot to be a very special one, featuring a stylish trenchcoat along with different shades of glowing lipstick, which are priced around 12,000 won per 3.5 g. The two combined are said to give a casual look.

Innisfree also mentioned that Yoona fits the concept perfectly, naturally drawing everyone’s attention towards her. Moreover, compared to previous promotions, Yoona looks more mature in this concept.

Song joong Ki spotted out with Son Dam Bi and Son Hyun Joo

Song Joong Ki (28) gave his farewell greeting to fans and he was recently spotted saying to goodbye to his friends including Son Dam Bi (30) and actor Son Hyun Joo (49).

'Sports Seoul' captured the outing and described the close relationship between the three. Apparently, the trio met up at a restaurant in Cheongdamdong, Gangnam on the 20th and enjoyed dinner and drinks together. Song Joong Ki was the first one to arrive at the scene and shared laughs after greeting Son Hyun Joo and Son Dam Bi, who arrived shortly after. It is well known that Song Joong Ki, Son Dam Bi and Son Hyun Joo are good friends as the latter is known to take good care of his hoobaes.

As mentioned before, the day fans are dreading, aka Song Joong Ki's enlistment, will happen on August 27.

Allure: Because it’s a beauty photoshoot, it focused on your face; how was it?
Tiffany: Because it was a makeup photoshoot, I put my own style down for a moment and did the shoot with the mindset of showing a new appearance. To be honest, I’ve been wanting to do a beauty photoshoot like this lately. It’s interesting how the mood changes depending on slight differences of the shape or attention of your lips, or angle of your jaw.

Allure: I was wondering what would happen if you were to ask them to remove some of the makeup because it was too thick.
Tiffany: I know well what kind of hair and makeup styles suit me. However, if I always look the same on stage, in photoshoots, and music videos, wouldn’t it be too boring? While me wearing red eye shadow was awkward, it was fun.

Allure: You went to Taiwan for a concert a few days ago, correct?
Tiffany: Yes. We have a concert in Indonesia planned in September, and a Girls’ Generation album will be released in the fall along with a Girls’ Generation subunit, Girls’ Generation – TTS’s album next year.

Allure: Isn’t your busy schedule tiring?
Tiffany: Now, for the first time, I’ve learned how to enjoy the stage. And so, I think I’ve become a real singer on my own. When dancing, rather than being tense thinking of the next sequence, the next part comes about automatically from my memories. In order to become like this, I did 26 concerts, and 7 years have gone by.

Allure: Do you not have any thoughts about acting like your other members?
Tiffany: I do have an interest, but I couldn’t answer the question, ‘Will activities other than singing be exciting?’ that I threw at myself yet. I think music is still more important. So I like Girls’ Generation – TTS activities where I can show my own musical color.

The blind item was originally posted on 18.6.2013 (only 3 days after fans get to know about Liyin's participation on The Voice of China) but nobody knew about this blind item at that time and we (fans and probably Liyin herself too) thought it was pretty much signed and sealed that she'll participate in that programme. It was only in early July (a few days before she was supposed to have her blind audition in Shanghai) that fans get to know that she'll no longer be participating on The Voice of China and the fact that Liyin even helplessly cried over it

Still, this is merely rumours only and please take it with a grain of salt. I think there were more rumours on Korean entertainment (about GD, EXO, Park Yoo Choon, etc) in the same Baidu thread but Chocolyn only translates the Zhang Li Yin related parts.

2NE1′s Minzy Passes College Qualification Exam

K-pop girl group 2NE1′s youngest member Minzy has passed a qualification examination for entering college.

The 19-year-old artist announced the news herself through her Twitter account on Thursday afternoon.

“I was nervous all morning and turns out I passed the qualification examination. I’m grateful for God’s grace, my fans who cheered me on during my studies and my tutor who gave me strength. Thank you,” she tweeted.

Minzy, who debuted as a member of 2NE1 alongside Dara, Bom and CL, dropped out of school after graduating from middle school in order to focus on her career as a singer.

Meanwhile, 2NE1 most recently made a comeback with two hit songs “Falling In Love,” which rolled out on July 8, and “DO YOU LOVE ME,” which was released on August 7.

The group is set to excite fans in Japan at annual music event a-nations at Osaka’s Nagai Stadium on August 24 along with SHINee, TVXQ!, Super Junior and BEAST.

Baek Ji-young to Sing Soundtrack for Joo Won’s Drama

Korean solo artist Baek Ji-young has lent her beautiful voice to actor Joo Won’s medical series “Good Doctor.”

Baek Ji-young has finished recording a soundtrack for “Good Doctor” last Saturday, an official with the drama’s soundtrack producing company The Groove told TenAsia today.

The title of the Baek’s song is “Cry Like a River” (translated title). This will mark Baek’s first musical activity since her natural miscarriage of her first child with her actor husband Jung Suk-won early June, giving the public a huge shock and sorrow.

The song will be used as the theme song for actress Moon Chae-won in the next Monday episode of “Good Doctor” and be released online the following day at noon KST, the official added.

The artist, nicknamed as “Queen of OST,” has lend her voice to Hyun Bin’s drama ”Secret Garden,“ KBS’s ”IRIS,“ JYJ Yuchun’s ”Rooftop Prince,“ MBC’s fantasy drama “Kang Chi, the Beginning” and many other popular dramas.

Last month, the strong vocalist also served as a visual director for rookie female artist Yu Seong-eun, a successful competitor in Mnet’s talent show “Voice Korea” who released her debut album mid July.

KARA Release Jacket Photos for New Album

K-pop girls KARA have taken off their suits and exuded their feminine sides for the jacket photos of their upcoming album.

The girls’ agency DSP Media unveiled the photos to the jacket for KARA’s fourth studio album “Full Blossom” through a press release on Thursday.

While the girls stirred anticipation by suiting up for the promotional images of the album’s title tune “Damaged Lady,” they switched gears by exuding their feminine beauty for the jacket photos.

The girls pre-released their medium-tempo tune “Runaway,” composed by composer Shim Eun-ji of JYP Entertainment, on Wednesday.

The girls will perform “Damaged Ladies” and “Runaway” for the first time at their special-themed comeback showcase to be held at the UNIQLO-AX in Seoul, Korea on September 2, and go on air live through Korean portal website Naver.

Breaking their one-year hiatus since their fifth mini-album “PANDORA,” the upcoming record will be the group’s first full-length album in two years after “STEP.”
