An excerpt from the translator's note: This Baidu thread was posted mid-June, but got picked up recently on Weibo. The "blind item" mentions a female soloist in SM Entertainment and The Voice of China, so it's safe to assume that it's talking about Zhang Liyin.

Recently, the hottest topic in entertainment industry is the feud between SM company and JYP company. This time, SM company entered negotiations with "The Voice of China"; negotiations lasted 4.5 months; regarding entry, video introduction etc. SM's female artist really wanted to participate, and saw that it was finalized, but SM and the show organizers were still discussing secretly, deciding when would be a good time to publicize the participation. The other company (JYP) also had a similar thought; and has plans to debut an idol group with Chinese members, and to seize the opportunity to promote the "Chinese girl group idols from Korea" theme, the company reached out to Zhejiang TV* employees it has worked with in the past to release this information (on the girl group), who then first release this information with their respective media partners; and added a "not an accident, enter the final three final elimination rounds" inaccurate speculation, so that the auditionees, coaches and audience members would leave a non-friendly impression of the SM female artist. On how to eliminate the subsequent reaction, SM reacted very slow to this news.

I do not know how many people know that JYP has the backing of Busan mafia members. After JYP playing with SM Entertainment Zhang Liyin's The Voice of China opportunity, they felt bolder. This year in China, there has been an increase in paid positions for creating online propaganda, organizing 1000 reposts and 1000 comments sort of results. Not to mention injecting themselves into online video platforms, but also with at least three television networks, one media entertainment event company, not only to promote their artists, but to also control competitors' influence, and give their own Chinese female idol artists a first advantage. You can say that they have narrow sight, and doesn't use their capital resources properly. The blind item was originally posted on 18.6.2013 (only 3 days after fans get to know about Liyin's participation on The Voice of China) but nobody knew about this blind item at that time and we (fans and probably Liyin herself too) thought it was pretty much signed and sealed that she'll participate in that programme. It was only in early July (a few days before she was supposed to have her blind audition in Shanghai) that fans get to know that she'll no longer be participating on The Voice of China and the fact that Liyin even helplessly cried over it

Still, this is merely rumours only and please take it with a grain of salt. I think there were more rumours on Korean entertainment (about GD, EXO, Park Yoo Choon, etc) in the same Baidu thread but Chocolyn only translates the Zhang Li Yin related parts.

lol srsly, and even if in china they are not as strong as they are in korea, they are waaaayyy strong than JYP, i mean, just look at their idols promotions in china and taiwan against JYP's acts.

I don't think the Baidu Thread starter / poster was a Zhang Li Yin fan or that he/she was trying to explain why she was removed. He/she posted several other blind item / rumours on korean entertainment in the same Baidu thread.

As it was explained above, the blind item was posted only 3 days after it was made known that Liyin would be participating on VOC (at that point of time nobody knew that she'd be removed in July). So... idk :/

it wasn't created by zly fans lol. we have been wondering for weeks on why she was removed from the show, but were never told why. the source is from a baidu thread that talks about random korean entertainment gossip, even SM artists like EXO/BoA/SNSD were mentioned in that thread, so it's not a tidbit from ZLY fans, although it was translated by ZLY fans (bc it obviously mentioned her).

Even before fans knew about Liyin be axed from participating, there were words going around about the reason why it took quite a long time for sm to negotiate with VOC was because Zhejiang TV has already an established relationship / contracts (?) with JYP, or something like that.

honestly, if JYPE has some sort of good relationship with the station they are not using it properly, because when their cats film stuff with them [normally miss a] it isn't aired quickly, in fact they are often in the backburner.

the whole thing is very weird, idk why JYPE would mess with SM, the same would go for YG (and any of the big 3 with each other), in any way when they are somewhat partners and it could ruin what they have going on.

sadly, this is already a general consensus between Liyin's fans that are left and we have the same opinion on this ;____; like you said in one of your comment above, it is highly likely SM will pull an Isak on her.

But ZLY's bestfriend irl always seem to be defending SME. With regards to her participation on VOC, she (ZLY's bff) once said : "But honestly, without the company's support, this would all be wasted effort, really think SM Entertainment is remarkable."

I know, I rolled my eyes upon reading that too, lol. Copying and pasting my own comment in the forum regarding her bff's words: "From the way I see it, Liyin and her bff has this Stockholm Syndrome relationship with SM Ent. Liyin has been a captive under SM Ent and being mistreated for far too long and when SM Ent has shown even a tiny sign of care, they feel greatly grateful. Liyin and her bff probably see the lack of abuse from SM Ent part as an act of kindness ----- I'm still bitter of SM Ent's treatment for Liyin. I won't fall for her bff's words easily"

maybe i am just thinking too much of SM, and overthinking the situation, but i honestly think that if they really wanted her in the show they would get that spot for her.

maybe SM just acted like they wanted to help her with it, but in the end they didn't, hence her friend being pro the company.

i just wish they would stop their bullshitery, let her go cleanly and allow her to rebuild her career, but i feel like they do everything possible for a person to not do well after they leave the company, because they lock them in a basement so the public will forget them.

Seriously, I found it really hard to compute when Liyin's best friend were saying things like "please stop misunderstanding Lee Soo Man and his company anymore, right now they are really trying their best (for Liyin)" ...like how can she be defending a company that has left that poor girl wasting her youth in Korea, without even releasing anything nor having any other activities in 4 freaking years?! ;______; But her friend was so sweet and such a good friend to Liyin so I became kind of conflicted, lol.

I'm afraid that by the time they let her go freely, it will all be too late for her to rebuild her career. I might already be an old woman to be witnessing that. sobs

i think 4.5 months of negotiations for an artist to appear on the show without prior auditioning (it was a two step audition process) is good effort from SM. there were good intentions, i think, but just not enough to push ZLY into the show, compared to if say it was a SNSD member or something.

SM just plays the "we're not using her atm, but you can't have her either"... not like ZLY can leave though. her contract doesn't expire until 2016 or something.

This sounds like fan fiction. Zhang Liyin's participation was either stopped by SM or by some local Chinese label(s) which doesn't like SM expanding more and more into their market.

It could probably be that SM was the one who pulled out ZLY from participating at the very last minute but there must be a strong reason why they did so, because they have been very supportive of her to join VOC. ZLY's best friend kept on telling how SME was very supportive of this and that without SME's support it would be a wasted effort, and such.

As for the other labels theory, I'm not so sure about that. Who knows, no? :/

The jyp mafia connections is a little far-fetched. I wouldnt be surprised if SM pulled her out because they were convinced she'd be portrayed in a negative light though. It probably came down to company politics and tv station loyalty.

tbh it doesn't take a huge company to spread around rumors that someone like zhang liyin is getting preferential treatment b/c of her sm contract and end up ruining her chance at the show (b/c the show runners don't want to appear biased/like the game is rigged) - jyp could very easily do that

It is possible for them to have reasons to care about this if it is true that they do have some sort of good relationship/contract/collab with Zhejiang TV who owns The Voice of China. They could be seeing this as SM's means of entering their turf, or something like that.

idk why JYP having mafia connections is not believable. if JYJ's CJES is rumoured to have mafia connections, why would it be a stretch that JYP does? after all, it's not like JYP has been very consistently profitable lately (compared to the other Big 2). but even if there are mafia connections with any major korean entertainment companies (even SM), it's not like they're gonna hand their idols over and force them to be chummy with these gang members. it's probably just "hey we lack funding, or this contract isn't working out, can you put on some pressure on the third party for us".
