Twitch Site: Colin Firth Passes on Oldboy Remake

The Twitch film website reported on Thursday that actor Colin Firth (The King's Speech, A Single Man, Love Actually) turned down the villain role of Adrian in Spike Lee's remake of Park Chan-Wook's live-action film Old Boy. Firth confirmed that he was offered the role in an interview with the Moviefone website last month but remained vague about his potential involvement.

Who were the top digital sellers in K-POP for 2011?

With 2011 counting down to a close, the industry is slowing down to look back at its achievements over the past year. Following a list of the most successful producers, Star News has followed up with a ranking of the most popular digital tracks over the past months.

The list was compiled by Olleh Music and ranks the top 50 songs this year which performed the best in the digital form. The number was determined by combining the number of downloads + the number of streams the song received on its website.

Big Bang and Super Junior triumph over Britney Spears in 2011

Boy groups Big Bang and Super Junior garnered a lot of international interest in 2011, having beat out international pop icon Britney Spears to achieve their titles as world stars.

First, Big Bang attended the 2011 MTV EMA‘s which were held in Belfast, Northern Ireland back in November.

The boys were nominated under the “World Wide Act Asia Pacific Nominees” category for the EMAs and won, advancing to the “Worldwide Act Nominees” category alongside famous international artists such as Abdelfattah Grini(Africa/India/Middle East), Lena (Europe), Restart (Latin America), and Britney Spears (North America).

Big Bang stunned the world, and themselves, by winning the award. They became the first Korean artist to ever achieve such a title, and Big Bang made their mark in K-pop history.

Britney Spears is a mega pop star, having gifted the world with hit after hit, and over the years has built a phenomenal fan base with her sexy performances and vocal talent. The fact that Big Bang won the award despite being up against the international superstar was especially noteworthy, and proved that they were qualified to be titled ‘world star’s.

The boys of Super Junior have also surpassed Britney Spears.

On December 6th, mashable along with twitter aggregate data analysis website What The Trend released their annual ‘Top 10 Twitter Trends‘ list. The company analyzed over 207,518 hash tags to identify the top trending topics of 2011.

Under the ‘Top 10 Trending Topic’s on Twitter’, popular idol group Super Junior ranked 4th under the artists category and 7th overall, just above Britney Spears and even the devastating Japan earthquake.

Under the artists category, the boys were #4 behind world-famous artists Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, and the Jonas Brothers, respectively.

Big Bang and Super Junior are no longer idols only within the boundaries of Korea. They have made themselves known to a growing international audience receiving global applause and praise, and they are drawing high attention as fans are anxious to observe their next big ventures overseas.

Well, not so sure about them being known to a growing international audience... More like a really powerful fanbase. But YEAH

Criticism force HyunA & Hyunseung to change choreography for “Trouble Maker”

HyunA and Hyunseung have been the talk of the town with their racy choreography for “Trouble Maker“, a project song from their newly-established unit. A rising volume of complaints have forced the duo to change their dance routine on account of it being too sexy for national broadcast.

A representative from Cube Entertainment spoke to OSEN and stated, “This unit [Trouble Maker] was created for our fans, but since there were a lot of people expressing discomfort with their performances, we decided to change the choreography.”
Their new routine will take effect starting with today’s episode of KBS‘s ‘Music Bank‘.

Kim Seung-kyu, a resident of South Korea, was interrogated eight times because he made a statement glorifying North Korea, reported the Associated Press.

After a conservative government rose to power in South Korea in 2008, it became a crime to praise or sympathize with North Korea in any way. In 2010, more than 150 South Koreans were reportedly questioned and 60 charged for praising North Korea.

Like the 60 people before him, Seung-kyu was also convicted, but his sentence was suspended. He says he was charged for reposting articles, songs and other available information about North Korea on his blog, according to the AP, and called the National Security Law a government attempt “to suffocate the people.”

Railway workers hit by train in South Korea
Five railway workers in South Korea were killed when a Korea Airport Railroad train ploughed into them as they worked on the tracks, authorities said.

The victims were working on a drain to prevent the tracks from freezing during winter near Incheon airport when the train struck them early Friday, the Korea Railroad Corp. said.

Another worker was seriously injured while a seventh managed to avoid the oncoming train. The group allegedly entered a section of the track without informing the train control centre, the company said.

Services on the 61-kilometre (38-mile) line connecting Seoul to the airport returned to normal after a 15-minute delay, it said.

SM Town Live In Tokyo To Be Released on DVD

The SMTOWN concert that took place at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan in September from the 2nd thru the 4th this year will finally be available on DVD. The 3-day concert attracted over 150,000 fans to Tokyo with over 600,000 applicants for tickets.

SM Entertainment artists such as Kangta, BoA, TVXQ, Super Junior, CSJH The Grace, Girls' Generation, SHINee, and f(x) participated in the 3-hour concert and performed colorful and exciting stages.
