Mark your calendars and cancel all appointments – MTV Iggy’s throwing a unique and exciting global pop music event and making history on 12.12.11. It’s the culmination of a year-long program to find best new bands in the world, a reward for faithful and fanatical fans who voted ceaselessly for six weeks, and a dazzling display of the rich musical creativity that exists across nationalities…and everyone’s invited to the celebration!
The multi-location, multi-platform event will feature four acts representing the vast breadth and depth of music talent, four symbols of a growing global music movement.
Headliners 2NE1, the four fiercest ladies of K-pop, ride atop a Hallyu wave that’s growing into a pop culture tsunami. Venezuelan dance punkers La Vida Boheme twist the tropes of Western rock music, reawakening an anarchic joy long since lost. Jamaican sensation Gyptian’s devastatingly seductive croon carries the torch for reggae into the new century. And Malaysia’s folk pop darling Yuna combines an unforgettable voice and retro-glamorous looks into an iconic emblem of modern Muslim sensibilities.
Hosted by MTV VJs Suchin Pak and Sway, MTV Iggy’s Best New Band concert will be simulcast on the MTV’s giant HD screen in Times Square and feature live backstage MTV Studio interviews, highlight reels, roving reporters, and interactions with fans in Times Square and online.
The event is free to ticket holders. Enter by December 6th for a chance to witness it all in person. But we invite music lovers the world over to watch and participate! Details below:

CL Discusses 2NE1's Goals for 2012
2011-12-08 04:28 amTwo of the biggest annual award ceremonies - the "2011 MAMA" and the "2011 Melon Music Awards" - came to a close these past few weeks, and 2NE1 is the only group to have come away with two prestigious "Daesang" awards from both ceremonies. Not only did they win the "Album of the Year" award at the "2011 Melon Music Awards" but also the "Song of the Year" at the "2011 MAMA."
Compared to last year, their reach has grown significantly larger, receiving love calls from Brazil and France while simultaneously working with world-renown producers like Will.I.Am in preparation of their move from the Asian market to the American and European markets.
Leader CL sat down with Star News for an interview detailing their plans for the coming year.

I'm missing performances from Seo In Young and MIB, but I'll edit them in if I can find them later. idk why they had Super Junior back, tho.
Daesung, who recently made a comeback with the MBN drama, What’s Up after seven-month long hiatus, shared his thoughts on his 'comeback at a press conference', for the drama held on December 6 in Seoul.
When asked to share his feelings about making a comeback, he answered, “While taking a break, I thought about what I’ve done up to date and what I should do in the future. And I wanted to make an official appearance like this to make an apology to everybody.”
Daesung went into hiatus since his involvement in a speeding accident that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist in May. The Big Bang member returned to the entertainment industry with the role of Ha Do Sung in the drama. His comeback and his first acting attempt have been drawing a lot of attention and support from his fans.
Daesung continued, “I thought I should return and show my better side. I’ve been nervous and worried under the pressure that I had to please people.” “Due to my activities, I often missed out on classes. And thanks to this role, I got to have direct experience in school life. I enjoyed shooting since the fellow cast members are about the same age as me and our lifestyles are similar.”
What’s Up, written by scriptwriter Song Ji Na, best-known for major hits including SBS’ The Sandglass and MBC’s Eye of Dawn, covers a story of young and passionate musical majors. It airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9am.
Preview of SNSD and Dangerous Boys

Dangerous boys? Pffttt... Don't make me laugh. It's actually more like "actors acting as dangerous boys". But whatever, it's just a preview. Perhaps I'll change my mind once I've seen the whole episodes.

Sick of the K-pop Cult
2011-12-08 03:08 pmHally Wave is no more than clone-like stars, manufactured sounds and weepy fans.
In David Mitchell’s 2004 novel Cloud Atlas, there is a futuristic segment set in Korea where a corpocracy rules the land. Advances in bioengineering have allowed human creatures called fabricants to be bred as workers. Physically, they are perfect specimens - with identical, beautiful faces but without any higher consciousness. When they run out the course of their productive lives, they are destroyed.
I found this section of the book particularly disturbing. It is a chilling study of how a capitalist totalitarian society exploits the weak and turns humans into robots for money. Everything looks happy on the surface but beneath, it’s maggots and rotten meat.
Recently, I got a taste of Mitchell’s dystopian view - at a K-pop fan meet of super-band TVXQ.
What’s a fan meet? It is a shrunken version of a concert, with only a handful of live performances. Interspersed with the song-and-dance numbers are screenings of music videos and sanitised Q&A sessions.
To any disinterested observer, it was a blatant rip-off. To the fans, it was like communing with the gods. It was a uniquely depressing experience but during the show, I couldn not put my finger on the reason.
Could it have been the dead-eyed way the pop princes answered questions from stuttering fans about their favourite Singaporean food? Or the well-choreographed dance moves they executed, without a glitch, to songs scientifically engineered to stick onto your brain like a leech?

Cha Seung-won's son Noah's picture was shown on TV.
There was an interview with Cha Seung-won on the MBC TV program "Joo Byeong-jin's Talk Concert" on December 8th.
Cha Seung-won is well known as a 'fool for his daughter'. He had attended a sports meet with his young daughter. He said, "It's not a big deal. I'm not the only one who did. It's pressures me because people make it sound like I'm the only father who was there".
His son Noah was also shown. He is over 20 years old apparently. Cha Seung-won said, "It's been a while since I got married. I think I've spent more time with my wife than my parents".
