Their introductions were so cute. Can anyone gauge how good their Japanese
is? They didn't seem to need a translator at all!

Today, SM Entertainment posted news detailing the success of Girls’ Generation’s three day solo concert in Taiwan on their official Facebook page. On September 9th, 10th, and 11th, Girls’ Generation held their 2nd solo concert at “2011 Girls’ Generation Tour in Tapiei” at the Taipei Arena, the country’s largest concert hall, for over 31,000 cheering fans.

Adding to their constantly growing list of accomplishments, Girls’ Generation is the first foreign girl group to hold a concert for three days at Taipei Arena and brought together the largest audience. Much like SM Town in Paris, SM had to add an additional concert date due to the overwhelming response from fans wanting to see the girls perform.

Fan accounts from the concert were overflowing with praise, and the concerts themselves were quite emotional with Taiwan sones preparing multiple events to surprise the girls. Fans created a message using green colored light sticks to say “소녀시대9″ and “FOREVER”, and held up signs that said “Your Sone”. On the last day they created another message with light sticks, “가지마요”, which means “Don’t go”, and also threw long pink ribbons toward the stage in what has seem to become a tradition for Girls’ Generation concerts in Taiwan. The girls were touched by all the events Taiwan sones prepared for them.

On the last day of the concert, Hyoyeon was given a special treat when her fellow members and the fans celebrated her birthday. There was a cake on stage and everyone in the audience sang “Happy Birthday” to her. It was a joyful end to the concert, especially when Seohyun playfully put icing on Hyoyeon’s face.

Girls’ Generation put on an incredible show in Taiwan over the course of three days, showing why they are considered to be the best girl group in all of Asia.

Japanese Coast Guards say they have found a boat carrying nine people, who say they are North Koreans, off the country's west coast.

Sailors found the wooden boat, carrying three men, three women and three boys, off the Noto Peninsula near the city of Kanazawa.

The group told Japanese officials they wanted to go to South Korea.

In recent years more and more North Koreans have been making their way to the South, but rarely via Japan.

Most cross the border into China before travelling on to South Korea, often via South East Asian nations.
Japanese officials said they were alerted to the boat  )

With a March comeback just around the corner, Shinhwa is working harder than ever to prepare for their upcoming album. They recently got together earlier this week to discuss some series matters for Shinhwa Company.

Member Minwoo, who is scheduled to be discharged from the army next February, has begun to plan out their concept while Junjin and Andy are trying to get back into shape in time for their comeback. Even while working on his acting career, Dongwan is still taking time off to participate in preparations and Hyesung is trying to stay out of the limelight as much as possible so that they can make a bigger impact with their comeback as a group.

Leader Eric is also as determined as ever. Having recently wrapped up his drama with ‘Spy Myung Wol‘, he’s chosen to work on Shinhwa’s album as top priority instead of acting in another drama.

A representative of the group said, “I talked with one of the members and they’re all just filled with much determination for their comeback. They’re even considering adding a clause in their contracts that prohibits individual/solo activities while promoting as a group next year.”

Shinhwa will be celebrating their 14th anniversary on March 24th with the release of their 10th official album and an Asian tour in six different countries.

The more modern sound and suggestive imagery of K-Pop is challenging J-Pop on its home turf

South Korean pops group Girls Generation performs on the stage during the K-Pop All-Star live concert in Niigata, northern Japan, on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011.

Thousands of Japanese protestors gathered in Tokyo last month, but they weren't rallying against nuclear power, the country's revolving-door Prime Minister position, or the long-stagnant economy. Their wrath, rather, was directed at soap operas. In late July, Japanese actor Sousuke Takaoka was fired from his promotion agency after criticizing the Fuji TV network on Twitter for airing so many Korean programs that he felt "brainwashed." By August 21, a reported 6,000 people had gathered outside of Fuji TV's headquarters, carrying Japanese flags and shouting "No more Korean wave."

In Japan—a country that has prided itself on producing and exporting its own fantastical pop culture—Korean entertainment has come to gobble up massive portions of melodrama and musical market share. Not only do Korean dramas air frequently on TV, but in the past year Korean pop groups like Girls' Generation and KARA have shattered sales records and become primetime fixtures on Japanese television programs, thanks to a mish-mash of Western club-friendly and a sped-up tempo appropriate for an arcade. This boom in Korean entertainment isn't just about units moved or appearances on talk shows; Korean media, especially pop music, has exploded in the Land of the Rising Sun because the K-Pop architects have embraced everything that the Japanese music industry has shunned for years.

Yup, Vampires, as in more than one. We’ve talked about Vampire Prosecutor before, but there’s another show in the works — a sitcom this time — called Vampire Idol. Can there be singing and judges?

First, the version we know about. OCN’s series Vampire Prosecutor, starring Yeon Jung-hoon (Jejoongwon, East of Eden) as the titular hero, has released a trailer (watch below) that’s pretty boss: slick, cool, and dark. I’m even warming to the fake blue eyes, which add that hint of ethereal coolness to his overall look.

But best of all is the interesting spin that this drama takes on the whole vampire/investigative genre: Our hero can actually use his vampire powers in his day job (heh), because one taste of the blood left at a murder scene allows him to see the moment of death and glean how it came about. Aw, it’s work AND a meal! Never say vampires can’t multi-task.

ZE:A‘s Ha Min Woo defeated front-runner Lee Hyun and took home the gold for the 100m men’s long jump competition!

On September 13th, MBC aired its Chuseok special, ’3rd Idol Star Athletics Championships‘, which saw rigorous competitions between many of the nations top idol’s.

As soon as the 100m rounds were finished, many tall male idols lined up to participate in the long jump competition and received the fervent support of their fans. As the winner of last year’s long jump event, Lee Hyun was one of the top contenders and he seemed quite confident in his abilities.

Surprisingly, the gold went to ZE:A’s Ha Min Woo, who won with a 5.25m record. Unfortunately, Ha Min Woo was unable to break Lee Hyun’s 2010 record of 5.42m. Lee Hyun came in second place after Ha Min Woo and received a silver medal.

Korean actress Bae Doo-na has been cast in the Hollywood movie “Cloud Atlas,” which will be produced by the Wachowski brothers, Larry and Andrew.

Bae will play the role of a genetically engineered clone who rebels against a capitalist, totalitarian society in 2144 in Seoul. The Wachowskis reportedly thought of Bae for the role after watching the 2009 Japanese film “Air Doll,” in which the actress stars as an inflatable doll that falls in love.

“Cloud Atlas” is based on the eponymous novel and comprises six stories from various times and places. The Wachowskis will collaborate with writer Tom Tykwer, best known for directing “Run Lola Run,” to make the film. Tom Hanks, Hugh Grant and Halle Berry make up an all-star cast.

Back in July, SM Entertainment’s Shim Jae Won was busily thinking of Super Junior’s new choreography for their 5th album. This time, his fellow choreographer Gregory Hwang revealed through Twitter that he too is in the process of coming up with a new Super Junior project!

He tweeted, “Get ready 4 the next SJ project n its gonna be sick …” and posted up a picture of this new project. Though currently it is unknown what this project is, I reckon it has to do with the group’s follow-up song.

Thoughts?

Singer Wheesung has announced that he’ll be releasing his final album before his army enlistment next month.

On September 14th, representatives of his agency revealed, “Wheesung is currently planning to release a new mini-album around the beginning of next month. He’s traded in his Chuseok holiday to spend nights working on his final recordings.”

The mini-album will be comprised of five songs, four them of being self-composed. His title track is the work of hit composer Kim Do Hoon and is described to be easygoing.

Although he previously revealed that he was planning for a September 23rd comeback, Wheesung decided that this would be his last work before his enlistment at the end of the year. As such, he expressed a desire in wanting it to be the absolute best.

He’s also training his protege Ailee and is working on her debut album, so he’s spending busy days and nights in the recording studio.

Representatives continued, “Ailee is preparing to debut by the end of the year. Not only is her album being produced by Wheesung, but it’ll also contain a few tracks from him as well.”
