GP Basic Holds Japan Showcase And Performs New Song "Jelly Pop"

Earlier, we reported that girl group GP Basic would be holding their debut showcase at the HEP HALL in Osaka, Japan. On May 29th, the girls performed six songs, including their upcoming single, “Jelly Pop“.

GP Basic’s representatives revealed, “Officials from the Japanese music industry have shown much interest in Korea’s youngest girl group. We are planning to have all proceeds from their Japanese activities and showcase go towards the earthquake disaster relief fund.”

The girls all made dramatic transformations into blondes and have gained a more mature look. Fans will be happy to see that Janey is back with the group, since she was previously forced to be absent for their Korean promotions.

GP Basic also performed an adorable cover of Cool’s old school hits, “Sorrow” and “Before I Get Sad“, so be sure to check it out below!

Here’s a look at Kim Jae-wook‘s fantastic transformation in drag for the Korean adaptation of Hedwig And the Angry Inch, the rock musical by John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask. He’s been starring in this stage adaptation since May 14, and has announced that June 19 will be his last performance, due to his impending enlistment in the army.

Wah, not another one!

Kim Jae-wook is a 1983er, which means he’s 28 this year (and 29 in Korea), so totally due for the army. I don’t know why, but that took me by surprise. I thought he was younger than that, though he did debut post-college, and post-indie-band-days. His band Walrus self-produced an album earlier this year, and he had two big roles in the past drama year — wasted in Mary Stayed Out All Night and a breakout in Bad Guy.

Kim said of having to leave Hedwig early: “The moment I read and heard Hedwig‘s music, I trembled, and I had the feeling that I had to do this, so I feel regret [in having to leave the project]. Though I’m leaving to defend the country, I’ll do my best till the end.”

I guess we’ll just have to wait two years to see him back in dramaland. Sniff.

Kim Yuna's "Kiss & Cry" suffers from low ratings

Kim Yuna's ice skating variety show "Kiss & Cry" began broadcasting on May 22nd and boasted the idol participants, Son Dambi, IU, TVXQ's Yunho, and f(x)'s Krystal. The first episode was reported by TNmS to have received an average viewer rating of approximately 10.5%. However, it seems that "Kiss & Cry" is currently suffering from low rating as the 2nd episode, which aired on May 29th, received an average viewer rating of 8.1% and ranked last amongst Sunday's evening variety shows.

Other variety shows on the other broadcasting stations such as MBC's "I Am A Singer" and KBS2's "Qualification of Men" received an average viewer rating of 14% and 9.2% (a rise from 6.6%) respectively.

SBS has been reportedly struggling in viewer ratings for their Sunday evening slots and had hoped that Kim Yuna would get ratings up. An entire studio was taken down and remodeled to create a specially built ice skating rink with temperature coils embedded in the floor in Ilsan.

Rania to return with ‘Masquerade’ for follow-up promotions

Rookie idol group Rania will be returning to the stage with a follow-up to their debut track, “Dr. Feel Good“.

Rania’s agency, DR Music, recently revealed that Rania will begin promotions for their new song, “Masquerade“, through MTV’s “The Show” on June 7th.

“Masquerade” was written and produced by Teddy Riley, who also produced “Dr. Feel Good” as well. Their debut single contained an English version, but Rania will naturally perform the Korean version instead. The girls are practicing diligently, and plan to introduce a new style to fans.

An official stated, “‘Masquerade’ is a dreamlike song with a strong beat. Rania has prepared choreography that will make a strong impression.”

He added, “We will be making the finishing steps to move forward with promotion activities, starting from ‘The Show’ to Mnet ‘MCountdown‘, KBS 2TV ‘Music Bank‘, MBC’s ‘Music Core‘, and SBS’s ‘Inkigayo‘.”

KBS intrigued K-drama fans with a set of teaser photos from its upcoming drama series, “Spy Myung Wol“.

Shots of actress Han Ye Seul and singer Eric gave a brief glimpse into the type of characters they’ll portray. Peeping through the sniper scope in one frame, and charmingly writing a ‘lipstick message’ in another, Han Ye Seul looks like she’ll be playing a mistress of disguise. Meanwhile, Eric will portray the ‘legendary Hallyu icon Kang Woo‘ – as such, his shots make him look every bit like a glamorous star.

KARA member Goo Hara attracted much attention while buying a hot dog in comfortable, casual clothes.

T-ara's Eunjung, a "make-up humilation star"

Eunjung, member of the idol group Tara, has joined the ranks of other celebrities who have been called "make-up humiliation".

On May 30th at the CGV theatre in Seoul, Eunjung attended a premiere of her movie, "White: The Curse of The Melody" and stood up on stage for a quick speech in a unique styled mini-dress, showing off her shining looks.

But unlike her brilliant fashion, the bottom half of her eyes were buried in white powder that wasn't matching her skin.

When the issue came up, Eunjung took to her Twitter and said, "I will not use that powder again. Tears. But it became the most discussed topic. But it happens to also promote the film," attracting laughter from fans.

Netizens have commented saying, "She looks good even with the make-up humiliation", "A shy, cute look", "I'm greedy because the dark circles under her eyes are completely hidden."

Eunjung is in charge of one of the main roles in the film "White: The Curse of The Melody" which is scheduled for release on June 9th.

B1A4 "1 with blood type B, 4 with blood type A? The true intentions of being No.1 National Idols!"



Rookie idols B1A4 gained the nickname of 'manjjit'-dols since pre-debut, having looked like they tore up and came out of a manga. Showing off with their title track 'O.K' from their first mini-album 'Let's Fly', these brilliant and extraordinary people have outdone all the other boy groups who debuted in the first half of 2011.

"That's right, we have 1 of us with blood type B, and 4 with blood type A! The calm blood type B is rapper Baro."
Even though the team name B1A4 is seemingly simple, they have the ambitious goal of "Be the one, All for one". First off, they want to grow to be "the best public-idols". And secondly, they surprised us by wanting to evolve into a boy group complete with skills of song writing and composing, and of course singing.
Unlike their refined appearances, these musicians were gathered from 8 provinces all over the country. We have seen the chaotic debut of Jinyoung (leader), Baro (rapper), Sandeul (main vocal), Shinwoo (vocal), Gongchan (maknae, vocal).

The brutal murders of Vietnamese brides in South Korea highlight integration difficulties.

The murder would have been all the more horrifying had it been unprecedented.

On May 24, a South Korean man stabbed his Vietnamese wife to death while the couple’s 19-day-old baby lay next to her. The man, a farmer, had been matched up with his foreign bride through a broker.
