Actress Kim Ji-soo was slapped with a 10 million won fine for drunk driving and hit and run. Investigators of the Seoul Central revealed on the 6th, "A fine for 10 million has been confirmed on Kim Ji-soo for driving away after causing an accident".

Kim Ji-soo was charged for hitting a taxi with her Audi vehicle last year October 5th, at an intersection near the Galleria shopping mall in Seoul and driving away.

Hyun Bin enlists, "Noooooo!" is heard all over Asia

At 1:30 PM KST on March 7th, actor Hyun Bin (29) enlisted with the marines training camp in Segyeri, amidst the support of over 700 fans and reporters.

For a total of seven weeks, he will receive basic training before beginning his 21 months of service. His date of discharge has been set for December 6th, 2012.

Hyun Bin bid his fans farewell for about 10 minutes before he withdrew inside. “Hello, this is Hyun Bin. A lot of people have come today. I, too, left Seoul this morning at 7:00 AM. On my way over, people told me that a lot of you came despite the cold weather. Thank you all so much.”

Five members of Infinite get into Taekyeung University Class of 2011

5 members from the 7 membered male idol group, Infinite, have all become freshman for one school. 

According to Taekyeung University’s PR department, 5 members of Infinite, Sunggyu, L, Lee Sungyeol, Hoya, and Jang Dongwoo, have all passed their special admission, taken last year. With this, they became freshman of the 2011 class for Taekyeung University’s applied music department. 

The university said, “Along with other singers who are promoting in the music industry, it is very uncommon for five members to pick the same university on a national scale.” They also explained, “Taekyeung University, located in Gyeongbuk, Daegu and not Seoul, is becoming famous for specializing in the arts.”

The group, Infinite, promoted last year with ‘Come Back Again’ and ‘She’s Back’, winning the 2010 Culture and Entertainment award for 20’s singer. They revealed their title song, ‘BTD (Before The Dawn)’, and are receiving love with their impressive group performance of their ‘scorpion dance’.

MBLAQ’s Mir rages against Jang Ja Yeon’s offenders.

MBLAQ’s Mir is expressing his anger towards what’s called the “Jang Ja Yeon Case.”

On March 7th, Mir tweeted, “Those 31 dirty scoundrels must have daughters too, right? It angers me to think that they’d be having dinner with their daughters as if everything is fine.”

The message is suspected to be in response to the letter that SBS ‘8pm News’ reported on March 6th; the letter was personally written by Jang Ja Yeon and said she was forced to host and offer sex services to 31 men over 100 times. SBS News reported that the letter said, “I had no way to get out of the situation. The men who came for me are the devils. Whenever I put on new clothes, I had to meet another devils.”

Kyung Gi Police, who is currently in charge of the Jang Ja Yeon case, said they’re currently investigating the relationship between Mr. A, who said he had received the letter from Miss Jang in 2005. The police plans to send investigators to Pusan Prison, where Mr. A is currently held.

There’s been a big jump in the popularity of the already much-followed Korean pop music (or K-pop) in Japan over the past year—a trend that’s being attributed to ‘cooler,’ more talented (thanks to a more vigorous training regiment) and more individualistic Korean female pop groups, especially compared to their Japanese counterparts.

I recently spoke to Robert Michael Poole, CEO of Something Drastic International Music Promotion and Tokyo editor at CNNGo, about this phenomenon. Poole follows K-pop closely and has interviewed some of the country’s biggest acts, including 4Minute, 2NE1 and Brown Eyed Girls, and has also worked with Big Bang.

Who are the Japanese fans of K-pop?
Attending K-pop shows in Japan, I’ve noticed that the majority of the audiences are young girls, not boys. This can be seen as a pop culture reflection of actual social trends. In Japan during the last few years, men have become increasingly homely, effeminate and passive, including the so-called herbivores, and they also have much less interest in sex. Women, on the other hand, are getting stronger and are feeling more independent.

Infinite is attracting attention for focusing on the 7 members’ romantic charms as they revealed their new single album’s jacket cover on March 7th.

Although it seems like they all have black on, they match each other with different colors emphasizing a carefree image. They are also receiving large anticipation from their fans. Infinite, who showed a masculinity with their intense charisma, is receiving attention for their bright and lively transformation.

Infinite’s single album, that shows their new looks, has the title song ‘Nothing’s Over’, along with 3 other songs. It will be revealed this March 17th.

Hyun Bin and Song Hye Kyo announce their break-up

On March 8th, the agencies of actor Hyun Bin and actress Song Hye Kyo officially announced that they had broken up in January.

The two agencies released a joint statement, that reads as follows:

“We would like to inform the public that Hyun Bin and Song Hye Kyo decided to part ways earlier this year.

The two met in 2008 through the drama, ‘The World They Live In‘, and carefully acknowledged their love soon after to the public.

However, due to their busy drama, movie, and overseas schedules, they naturally weren’t able to pay as much attention as the other needed. The excessive amount of attention from those around them was pressuring, as well as the stress they received regarding unfounded rumors detailing their break-up. They did not have the time or freedom to overcome such obstacles, leading to an inevitable gap in their relationship.

Eventually, the two agreed to part ways earlier this year. Hyun Bin and Song Hye Kyo did not release an official statement because they did not want the public’s attention to be taken away from their respective works. Hyun Bin also did not want to bring up such a personal matter while greeting the public for the final time before his enlistment. Such is the reason why we postponed the release of this information until the 8th.

We would like to apologize for not informing you of this information earlier. The two will work to show their best in their own respective positions.”

The Flawless Nine Will be Having Their 1st Japanese Tour!!

Last year, 9 member Korean group “SNSD” debuted in Japan. Universal Music announced that in May SNSD will be having their first Japan Tour. The members couldn’t hold in their excitement, “This has been our goal since last year and we’re so happy that we can have a nation-wide tour in Japan. We’re quite excited and nervous!”.

Furthermore, SNSD will be releasing their first original Japanese single on April 13th called “MR. TAXI”.

The members are Sooyoung (21), Tiffany (21), Jessica (21), Hyoyeon (21), Seohyun (19), Yoona (20), Taeyeon (21), Yuri (21) and Sunny (21). This is the first time the girls will be having an all-out solo concert in Japan. The tour will begin on May 18th at Yoyogi National Stadium in Tokyo and go to places like Osaka-jo Hall (Osaka). They will have their tour in 4 places: Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka; and will have 7 performances total. Around 60,000 people are expected to attend. The members commented, “We’re looking forward to eating delicious food all over Japan. Please anticipate our first tour in Japan. And definitely come to one of the venues!”.

The new song “MR. TAXI” is said to be a girl-ish dance song. The single will be a double A-side, the other song will be the Japanese version of “Run Devil Run” which was #1 on Recochoku’s Chaku Uta Full Ranking back in January. The first press limited edition and limited pressing will both include a DVD with the Japanese music video of “Run Devil Run” and will include a photobook as well. The jackets from the First Press Limited Edition version will be different from the Regular Edition’s jacket.

Letters by Jang Ja-yeon describe sex with 31 'devil' VIPs

Actress Jang Ja-yeon, who hanged herself in 2009, sent 50 handwritten letters to a friend detailing the names and professions of 31 prominent men she was forced to have sex with, according to a report by local broadcaster SBS on Sunday.

Yesterday, the police said it would investigate the friend, surnamed Jeon, who gave up the letters.

The case, which revealed an ugly side of Korea’s entertainment industry and enraged the public, surfaced again when SBS reported Sunday that it had obtained the 50 letters, consisting of 230 pages, that Jang wrote to Jeon, who was serving prison time for a crime police wouldn’t describe. They describe how she was forced by her former agent, Kim Sung-hoon, to entertain 31 VIPs, including a number of media, entertainment agency and business executives, over 100 times. She served drinks and provided sex.

Yesterday was the second anniversary of Jang’s suicide.

Actresses Park Han Byul and Yoon Eun Hye recently guested on tvN’s talk show, “Taxi“, and through it they revealed the hardships they experienced during their careers.

Park Han Byul kicked off by talking about her relationship with Se7en. “I was young at the time, and I was a rookie. It was inevitable in the Korean entertainment industry. I trusted the fact that people wouldn’t be able to say anything, as I had lied about the fact that I had loved him for the past 10 years.”

After acknowledging the relationship, she continued, “It was especially hard because after we admitted to the relationship, no matter where I went, I received questions about it. I thought about breaking up with him, but I looked at myself in the future and realized that the only way I’d be happy without working is to be with him, so I withstood it all.”
