After the four members of KARA previously announced that they filed to terminate their contracts with DSP Media, representatives of the agency have finally released an official statement on January 19th.

It reads:

“DSP Media will be making an official statement regarding the contract terminations reported by Jung Nicole, Han Seungyeon, Kang Jiyoung, and Goo Hara of KARA. We received a one-sided declaration from their lawyers, Landmark, on January 18th, but Goo Hara has decided not to join the others in terminating her contract.

Male group Dalmatian’s Jisu (real name Park Jisu – Age 21) and Youngwon (real name Lee Donglim – Age 21) have been accepted to universities.

Their company IS Enter Media said on the 6th, “Jisu and Youngwon will be entering Kyunghee Cyber University for the year of 2011 in the Information and Culture of Arts as well as the Culture and Arts Management. They were accepted like any other person through the regular process.”

The two graduated high school in 2009, but delayed their college entrance due to preparing in becoming singers.

The group they are under, Dalmatian, released their debut single ‘Round 1’ last year and will be doing promotions with their first mini album in February.

Asia’s star, BoA, has finally embarked on the preparations for her leading role in a Hollywood dance film.

Set to begin filming this year, the movie is currently untitled but will be directed by Duane Adler of other dance genre movies such as “Step Up” and “Save the Last Dance.” The movie had headlined earlier after Adler revealed that he wrote the script with BoA in mind as the leading role.

The movie is also produced by Robert Cort of “Jumanji,” “Runway,” “Bride“, and 55 other Hollywood films. He has previous experience working with Adler for “Save the Last Dance.”

BoA will begin dissecting the scenario and officially prepare for her role before she joins the film set. She previously revealed on her Twitter on January 4th, “Athena… and that’s how I leave… I’ll now work hard in preparing for my movie. Eusha!!”

Four of the five members of top Korean girl group Kara -- namely Han Seung-yeon, Kang Ji-young, Nicole and Gu Hara -- have decided to terminate their exclusive contract with their management agency DSP Media.

Through a press release issued on Wednesday, the girls' legal representative Hong Myung-ho of law firm Landmark said, "Kara is notifying DSP of their intention of terminating their exclusive contract with the agency so DSP must immediately halt its management of them."

The statement went onto say that the girls had tried their best not to break away from DSP but they "suffered inexplicable psychological pain" and "severe frustration" after being forced to carry out activities they did not want to and were insulted in character.

The four girls then pointed out their "irreparable trust" in DSP as the largest issue, saying they were "used only as a tool for making money."

The agency made decisions regarding the girls' entertainment-related activities without prior discussion with them and repeatedly refused to present them with explanations or information they requested for, they explained.

The statement ended by saying, "Kara's announcement rings a bell to the various deep-rooted ills existent in the music industry in which agencies use their superior authority to force activities on groups composed also of minors and sacrifice artists for their own gain."

Attorney Hong told 10Asia over the phone that the girls' decision goes into effect starting today, meaning they no longer represent them and will not be able to sign any type of new contract regarding them.

Rekochoku announced on the 19th its ChakuUta® Daily Ranking and the Japanese version of SNSD’s “Run Devil Run” entered the charts at #1. SNSD has previously released the Japanese version of their 2 songs “GENIE” and “Gee”, but this is the first time they’ve been #1 on the daily rankings.

In September 2010, SNSD debuted in Japan with their song “GENIE”. In March 2010, SNSD released “Run Devil Run” in Korea as the title song for the repackage of their 2nd album. Fans call it “Black Soshi”.

“Soshi” comes from SNSD’s Korean name “So Nyuh Shi Dae”. “Black” is what it is. “Gee” and other songs show off a cute and sweet image of the girls, where as “Run Devil Run” is a cool girl who is finished with a boy saying, “You’re dull”.

Twitter Inc. has just added Korean, the seventh language for the San Francisco micro blogging service. Twitter is already huge in Japan, and South Korea could also be an important market. About 70 percent of Twitter users are outside of the United States.

Twitter announced the news in this blog post and sent us this English translation:

Twitter use is growing in all corners of the world. In the last year, one of the fastest growing countries for Twitter is South Korea. There are now ten times as many Twitter users there than there were just a year ago.

As of today, Twitter will be even easier for Koreans to use. Among other updates, Twitter.com and Twitter's mobile web site are now translated into Korean.

North Korea began building centrifuges to enrich uranium in the late 1990s, a high-ranking North Korean defector said Tuesday. "There is a factory in Huichon, Jagang Province that builds centrifuges," the defector said.

There are fears that centrifuges manufactured in Huichon could have been moved to the nearby Yongbyon nuclear facility north of Pyongyang. Huichon is just 57 km from Yongbyon and the two cities are connected by road and railway.

In November North Korea took U.S. nuclear expert Siegfried Hecker to a facility in Yongbyon that contained around a thousand centrifuges. U.S. and South Korean intelligence officials believe that the centrifuges were made elsewhere.

Huichon also houses a cluster of factories that produce precision machinery and electrical components that are crucial to manufacturing centrifuges. According to the Unification Ministry, North Korean leader Kim Jong-il visited Huichon seven times last year to inspect power plants and factories there. Recently, North Korea has mobilized troops from Kim's own guard corps and is going all out to build a hydroelectric power plant there.

Big Bang’s upcoming concert shows just how much the fans missed them during the 2 years they were taking a break.

On the 18th on G-Market, the first round of sale for Big Bang’s 2011 Big Show was opened and within 5 minutes, it was sold out and once again showed how popular Big Bang really is.

On this day, 150,000 fans came into the site to reserve the tickets and only 14,000 tickets were available, making the ratio of actually buying the ticket 10:1.

During their first concert, the ticketing server was down so the date to sell the tickets was post-poned and Big Bang has shown, since their debut, their power of selling all the concert tickets and the ability to crash down the ticketing server, and this happened again.

On the January 19th episode of T-ara's Dream Girls, Senator Na KyungWon has appointed T-ara as Honorary Advisors.

The recent challenge from Mnet Dream Girls to T-ara is to become senatorial aides for prolific senator Na KyungWon. After having a rough start with their interviews, it seems the girls are getting a hang of it.

With determination showing, the people are convinced that theyre taking it seriously.

They also initiated a bill to pass to the senate, for the protection of abandoned dogs against inhumane treatment in South Korean animal shelters. The only thing hindering this law to be passed is for the congress to discuss it and pass their votes.

Despite his hit drama Secret Garden ending already, Hyunbin has still been working a full and busy schedule everyday. Suffering from a cold and overworking resulted in him fainting recently. He is also losing his voice, so recording for MBC‘s documentary Tears in Africa has also had to be delayed.

During filming for Secret Garden, Hyunbin worked non-stop for 3 months, not even taking a single day of break and getting IV drips at the hospital to keep himself energized. Although the hospital has already strongly advised that Hyunbin rest, his management company has revealed the following:

“These tight schedules were already arranged a long time ago and there are still many schedules to finish. We don’t know if he will be able to enlist in the navy like this, because he is one of the oldest volunteers. The fans have expressed that they hope Hyunbin can rest before his enlistment.”

During the current dispute about Kara's contract, it was found out that there were no dispute within Kara members.

According to an acquaintance, "When a group goes through situations like this, it is very common that members fight or argue with each other. However this wasn't the case for Kara."

Yesterday, KARA’s Seungyeon, Hara, Jiyoung and Nicole released a statement regarding their decision to leave their management company, DSP Media. DSP Media released an official statement responding to the issue, in which they argued against some of the four members’ points.

On January 20th, DSP Media released a second statement, but instead of providing yet another round of clarifications, the statement was a mere request for patience from fans.

The document reads:

“Hello, this is DSP Media.

We believe that there must be a lot of people currently feeling confused over the reports being made by the media regarding the termination of KARA’s exclusive contracts.

First of all, we would like to deeply apologize for creating such confusion and concerns.

About five years have passed since KARA first began promoting themselves and met with their fanclub, Kamilia. We will be working our hardest in order to make sure that the absolute support and love that Kamilias share with KARA, through all the joys and hardships, do not go waste.

We request that you extend your love and support once more to the five members of KARA, who are undergoing more difficulties through this ordeal than anyone else.

T-ara’s Eunjung has been going around taking photos with her “Dream High” castmates. First was her “best friend” miss A’s Suzy, then it was JOO, and now it’s Kim Soo Hyun’s turn.

On January 18th, Eunjung posted a couple photos to her Twitter saying,

“Sam Dong, I’m sorry… ㅠㅅ ㅠ I did wrong… BaekHee… cries to Sam Dong who injured his head …“

In the first photo, Eunjung is seen begging Soo Hyun for forgiveness while the second photo shows Eunjung “caring” for his wound.

KARA’s agency troubles has just added another chapter to its saga, as recent tweets by member Nicole’s mother are quickly becoming a hot topic.

She stated today on her Twitter, “There is no parent who would gamble with their child’s life over money. There is no parent who would destroy what her child has been working for through blood, sweat, and tears.”

She added, “Our children were able to achieve their dreams through extremely hard work. Now that we’ve looked back on the blood, sweat, and tears, we had no choice but to go this route. There are many more hills to climb in the future. Even though we knew this would happen, we still chose to do it. Because we love our daughters.”

Earlier this month, we reported that SBS was planning a special trip for 20 idols to Thailand, where they would record a “Lunar New Year Special” episode, participating in fun events.
While they were recording a game that the idols were playing, Super Junior’s Donghae fell off a platform and bruised up his face.
ELFs, no need to worry too much as Donghae has been reported to being just fine, and his minor injuries will naturally heal up in a matter of a couple weeks.

MBC drama "My Princess" kept the throne even after the viewer rating decreased.

According to AGB Nielson Media Research on the 20th, the fifth episode of "My Princess" aired on the 19th, recorded a national average of 18.8%.

It's 2.1% lower than the previous episode on the 13th, but still leading all dramas in the same time frame.

Therefore, "My Princess" has currently been the lead 3 times in a row, leaving behind SBS "Sign" and KBS 2TV "President". They both recorded 15.3% and 7.3%.

In this episode, Lee Sul (Kim Tae-hee) becomes princess and enters the imperial family.

Due to the contract terminations filed by KARA’s Seungyeon, Nicole, and Jiyoung, DSP Media will be halting all of their scheduled appearances.

Seungyeon, Nicole, and Jiyoung’s lawyers, Landmark, reported on January 19th that DSP Media will no longer be managing the three girls, and thus suspended their KARA schedules.

KARA will not be making an appearance at the “Seoul Music Awards“, scheduled for January 20th. Leader Gyuri will also be temporarily halting her appearances on her radio program with Super Junior’s Shindong.

Representatives of DSP Media stated,”Gyuri was put in a state of shock after receiving notice of the contract terminations, and expressed that she could not take part in the live recording for her radio show on the morning of the 20th.”

Their Japanese drama, “URAKARA,” will continue to be aired as scheduled. Representatives of Nihon TV spoke with Star News on the 20th and stated, “We are planning to air the episodes of ‘URAKARA’ according to schedule. Rumors of KARA’s disbandment are worrying their Japanese fans. Because their drama completed all the necessary filming, it will air without any problems.”

The producer behind KARA’s representative tracks (“Pretty Girl,” “Honey,” “Mister,” and “Lupin“) has expressed his opinion on the contract termination lawsuit filed by three members of the girl group.

On January 19th, composer Han Jae Ho wrote through his Twitter:

“It’s been a tiring day. Last year, it was so fun and joyous being able to watch them go up step-by-step; each day was so full of energy. This year, we’re off to a rocky start. Just like how something good happens after something bad, something bad must happen after something good.

For me, I don’t believe the issue to be as severe as reports are making it out to be. I believe that KARA will not be disbanding under any reason, and it’s so apparent that those five kids want to stick together. Why must such reports be made?

Just a day ago, the members of KARA were working hard and having fun – they were all doing fine. The ‘mass comm’ likes picking fights… Vigorous articles are flooding it now.

I believe that KARA isn’t KARA without five members. If it’s not with all five, I refuse to work with anything regarding KARA.

I hope that today ends as a bad dream for something bigger and better, and I hope that we can dream of rising up once more, just like yesterday.”

"SHINee's Jonghyun had surgery on Jan. 17.

A source in SM Entertainment said on Jan. 20 that Jonghyun’s surgery went well. He’s recovering fast after the surgery.

Jonghyun got his left ankle injured when a crowd of fans flocked to see SHINee at the Korea-Indonesia Friendship Concert in Jakarta, Indonesia on Oct. 12 last year.

The surgery was advised by doctors after a thorough medical examination.

As Jonghyun is resting after the surgery, the other four members of SHINee will perform at the 20th High One Seoul Music Awards to be held in Kyong Hee University Grand Peace Palace at 7 p.m. on Jan. 20."

The parents of KARA’s Nicole, Seungyeon, and Jiyoung are currently preparing to release statements on the hardships their daughters were forced to endure, as well as details regarding the alleged irrational income distribution by DSP Media.

The parents met in an emergency meeting on the afternoon of January 19th and revealed that representatives of DSP were trying to meet with each of the members in hopes for reconciliation. The parents claimed that they requested for documents regarding the income the girls brought in in Japan, but the company delayed the sharing of such information with excuses such as, “There’s nothing balanced yet” and “Please wait until the appropriate time.“ When an opportunity for communication was finally opened, the company brought out balance documents that were difficult to understand, deepending the distrust between the two parties.

One member’s parents exclaimed, “Is such a contract that only gives $3,000 per person for dancing the ‘butt dance’ in Japan fair?“ They also revealed that the girls were put in saunas to sleep because of their busy drama filmings.

Another continued, “KARA released ‘Jumping‘ late last year, but there were barely any schedules for their Korean fans, and DSP Japan were busy working the girls to film ‘URAKARA‘ for their own profits. There were a lot of unexplainable circumstances, such as the girls being put to sleep in a sauna one night.”

All three parents exclaimed, “The company is prospering with the income that is being made, while the kids are getting bloody noses from fatigue. This reality cannot continue.”

Regarding members Park Gyuri and Goo Hara, who both are not taking part in the lawsuit, the parents revealed that Gyuri’s parents were “walking a different path from the other girls since three months ago,” as Gyuri’s parents failed to show up at a parental meeting held last November.

Asked about the rumors of another entertainment agency offering the girls better contracts, they revealed, “We can’t say anything, as the parents don’t discuss such internal things. What we’re sure is that the three members will not be able to repair their relationship with DSP.”

“Korean Idol Groups Appeal with High Quality Music”

SHINee, an idol group to make an official debut in Japan in March, have chosen as their partner EMI Japan, a company known for producing Utada Hikaru called national singer of Japan. Miyake Akira, who discovered and promoted Utada, will also be the producer for SHINee. After attending SHINee’s solo concert, he said he’d like to promote SHINee as an all-Asian pop group.

- Why SHINee?
“I met them in Korea twice. They were fresh. I didn’t hesitate to make my decision to work with them. They are versatile, they can do different genres like ballad and dance, and each member has a different musical style. There are many groups with manly and strong images, but SHINee will appeal to the protective instinct of fans with their sensitive and cute images.”
