4-member female vocal group The Couple to debut

Another girl group is set to heat up the summer competition in the Kpop zone. 4-member group The Couple will comeback after releasing their debut album last September ‘Look Only At Me’.

They will be releasing their 2nd album ‘Not Already’ on 24th June.

The members to the group were Goo Seo Yeon, Im Na Young, Hong Soo Min and Kim Tae Yoon as selected through audition. They are not only talented but also pretty and unique in their fashion and choreography.

Their producing company is StarComs Entertainment. The group is said to be coming back with new music style and hybrid music.

The group will start their promotions in July.

It has been known that Jewelry Seo In Young had went to America the beginning of this year due to depression.

She had revealed that during her appearance on an upcoming episode of SBS YaShimManMan 2.

Amidst her busy schedule, she had received stress more than she had expected to feel,”I had depression. So in the end, I decided to end all activities I had and to go on a vacation.”

Back then, Seo In Young had not provided for a reason to why she had suddenly stop all her activities to go to America. And fans had been worried about her sudden decision.

Known as the ‘Reality Queen’ for her appearance on several reality shows like ‘We Got Married’ etc, she said, “I had to take stabilizers before I go to sleep at night”.

This episode of YaShimManMan will air on 22nd.

On June 21, actor Lee Min Ho hosted two fan meeting sessions (1pm and 4:30pm) to thank his fans as well as celebrate his 22nd birthday.

Lee Min Ho’s first fan meeting, ‘Minoz Happy Day Mini Concert’, attracted 4000 females from Korea, Japan, and Taiwan to Children’s Grand Park Dome. (Minoz is the name of his fan club.)

This was his first public appearance since receiving surgery at the beginning of the month to take out the metal rod in his leg, which was put in following a car accident in 2006. Although the metal rod didn’t present many problems in his daily life, it would have prevented him from taking on roles with action scenes; hence, he decided to get it removed. Lee recovered from the surgery more quickly than expected and was released from the hospital within a week.

Ahead of their comeback, So Nyeo Shi Dae has been drawn into criticisms by bloggeres for their new minialbum cover.

Revealed on the 22nd, the album cover was said to have the image of a Japanese fighter plane associated with a bad reputation. The image of the airplane was planted near the waist of members YoonA and Yuri in the album cover.

Bloggers said that this type of Japanese airplanes were used during the Japanese occupation by the Japanese soldiers for suicide attacks in the air. The name of this type of Japanese fighter aircraft is ‘Type Zero War Machines’. The photos of the aircraft highlighted out of the original album cover have been uploaded online by many bloggers.
They also compared the photo with pictures of the real Type Zero-Sen aircraft and came to the conclusion that the 2 looked the same.

Would SNSD syndrome be successful once again?

So Nyuh Shi Dae's title song 'Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)' of their 2nd mini album was released at 10 AM on the 22nd through various music web sites. So Nyuh Shi Dae brought along the 'Gee' Syndrome during the first half of the year and their comeback was the hottest topic of discussion in the music industry of this summer.

In the middle of all this discussion, many musical personnel are surprised at the release of 'Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)'. The reason is simple. So Nyuh Shi Dae has strayed from their hook style song that has been dominating the music industry for the past 2~3 years.

The Wednesday/Thursday FFA will be a variation on our artist centric spotlight.

Rather than fixating on one specific artist/group, the upcoming FFA will tackle a particular theme.

The theme for the next FFA will be: Bromance/Womance

This theme allows members to post media and information relating to close relationships between male/male & female/female K-entertainers.

The entertainers can include: singers, actors, actresses, and anyone else in the media spotlight.

These entertainers can also be cross-paired. EG: Yunho/Heechul, etc. However, if this is the case- please make sure there is evidence of their bromance/womance, and not just wishful thinking on the fans behalf.

Some ideas of what you may like to post in the FFA, include: pictures, fanfic, macros, gifs, parody clips, youtube videos etc.

In a recent interview, former H.O.T. member Moon Hee Jun revealed some information about his relationship with TVXQ's pretty boy, JaeJoong.

Their relationship began while Hee Jun was still in H.O.T. During one of their concerts, Hee Jun stated that despite the group not having many male fans, in the sea of fangirls, JaeJoong stuck out like a sore thumb and was easily noticeable. Once JaeJoong debuted with TVXQ, he introduced himself to his sunbae as an H.O.T. fan and his father backed him up by sharing that JaeJoong even had a poster of him up in his room! From then on, their relationship blossomed as the two shared drinks while they discussed their musical interests. Turns out that both of them share very similar music interest, thus strengthening their friendship.

Hee Jun closed the interview by stating, "When TVXQ first debuted, as they were at the same company as us (SM entertainment), our music was kinda similar. However, as time went by the music started to change, now they’re building up their own unique music."

On the morning of June 23, Joo Ji-hoon appeared in court to receive his sentencing after pleading guilty to drug use of ecstasy and ketamine, and his fans can relax, since he got off pretty lightly.

His punishment is six months of jail with one year of probation (a suspended sentence) and 120 hours of community service, plus a penalty of 360,000 won (which is only approx US $280). That’s lighter than the one year and 440,000 won fine he had sought earlier this month. What this means is, he gets to suspend his six months of hard time while he is on probation for a year; if he remains clean (of any crime, not just drugs), the offense is essentially cleared and he doesn’t have to serve his initial sentence.

The decision was explained, “The nature of the crime is by no means light. However, he has reflected deeply on the crime and has not taken any drugs since the time a year and two months ago. Also, many fans from within the country and from overseas have appealed for an appropriate handling of the matter and sent petitions.”

Joo’s lawyer explained, “Of course he must accept the price of his crime, but wrong information kept coming out and exaggerated him as a habitual user, and some of it was unfair.”

As for his partners in crime, actress and trafficker Yoon Seol-hee was given three years in jail, while model and financer Yeh Hak-young and the unidentified Mr./Ms. Jeon were both given two and a half years of jail, but with four years of suspended-sentence probation, plus two years of regular probation and 200 hours of community service.

The line about the records they have to beat being their own really amuses me. I definitely agree on the whole winning 9 times in a row thing - there really is so much music being released recently, that's going to be a hard thing to achieve for any group. I'd say for this new song, as well, even if the article disagrees.

New female duo group Navid, consisting of member SoYeon who has also done several musicals like ‘Fame’ and ‘Chris’, is set to debut.

They will release their 1st album ‘One Day’ with the title song ‘Shake your boby’ which is a power dance song.

Other songs from their 1st album is 4th track ‘Bad Woman’ with an addictive rhythm, 9th track ‘Why’ which talks about the sadness that SoYeon has been through the day she broke up with her boyfriend. This album also have Red, NRG etc as the composers to the song ‘Hurt the ankle’.

Idol band FT Island will start on their Asia invasion.

From the 25th till 27th, they will be in Singapore, and then they will move on to Japan, Thailand, China and Taiwan for their tour concerts.

Even though the boys have been focusing on promoting within Korea, there have been nonstop love calls from fans from other Asian countries for them to promote overseas.

FT Island, “We are really happy for them to come find us. We are very excited about meeting our overseas fans, we want the name FT Island to be known not only in Korea but also in other countries.”

The boys will be promoting overseas all the way till the end of July when they will have their comeback.

Newcomer group T-ara will reveal its members on 7th July.

This group, 3 years in making, is an upcoming group. And already member JiYeon is promoting the project single ‘Female Generation’ with SeeYa and Davichi. She is also casted for MBC Drama ‘Soul’.

After the revealing of the 5 members end-April, 2 members JiWon and JiAe had left the group, leaving it with just 3 members.

But it is said that the group will debut officially as 6 members. The known members are JiYeon, BoRam, HyoMin and Eun Jung. The yet-to-be-revealed 2 members are said to have the looks and also vocal capabilities like the rest of the members. And they are said to be also moving into more acting activities like JiYeon in the future.

A new “faceless” ballad singer, U, is causing quite the stir in Korea with the sultry MV teaser for her new song, “Suddenly“(울 컥). The teaser clip was released on numerous online music sites this past weekend and has garnered a lot of attention due to the girl on girl lip action in the clip. Although the controversial MV may have the caught the eyes of many netizens, the “faceless” singer’s crisp vocals were also able to catch the ears of the netizens, triggering the curiosity of many. I decided to do a little research on this “faceless” singer because her voice sounded so familiar, and it turns out that U isn’t so “faceless” after all.

Back in 2004, the mysterious singer actually sang a song called “Miracle“ for the SBS program, “I like Sunday-Banjun Drama,” under the name of May (not to be mistaken for MayBee).

Looks like U and her company chose a very good marketing tactic this time around because her lesbian concept has allowed her to shed her old image, or what little image she had. Sure, there’s been groups in the past that have used this concept and failed, but it looks like U incorporated the concept well with her new ballad track and this has allowed her to gain more attention in the past few days than she has in the past five years. Here’s a clip of the MV teaser of the song “Suddenly” , which will be released as a mini-album on July 7th.

The Brown Eyed Girls, who are to make their comeback in July, has stuck to the concept of mature and sexy.

While other girl groups are going retro fruity and neon, the more mature Brown Eyed Girls revealed one of their album jacket pictures, as they looked serious and sexy in black.

They’re new song is to have an old like feel to it with a funky beat.

The Brown Eyed Girls are one of the many girl groups to be competing for popularity in the summer of 2009 along with Girls’ Generation, Kara, 2NE1 and 4 Minute. Brown Eyed Girls had hits like "LOVE" and "How Come" back in 2008 but can their new song surpass the popularity of the other girl group's songs, like "Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)" by Girls' Generation, who's song reached #1 on music charts in less than 24 hours?

Actor Jang Geun-suk is getting sued by the production company Pro Draft Media, responsible for the MBC drama, “The National Culinary School,” which failed to release due to funding issues back in 2007. Pro Draft Media paid Jang Geun-suk and others, a partial advanced payment before filming was officially supposed to begin. Production, however, never happened, so Pro Draft media are now asking that they cough it all back up. Obviously, Jang Geun-suk and his agency are refusing to give back the money they received since it wasn’t their fault that they were unable to film the drama.

A representative of the actor stated,

We had to forfeit working on other projects we were offered because of this drama. We did receive an advance payment as part of the promised amount, but once payment of the remaining amount started to be pushed back, we asked for a written statement from the production company stating, ‘even if a problem arises in terms of the production of the drama, we will not cause any problems in terms of the amount we paid out in advance’ and currently have it on file. The production company continuously told us to wait a little longer when asked why filming for the drama wasn’t getting started. We told their lawyer about the written statement and have been told that the issue would be looked into. There’s nothing we have done wrong, so we’re not worried about this lawsuit.

From the looks of it, Jang Geun-suk and his agency is probably going to win the case, and Pro Draft Media is just going to have to suck it up and accept their loss. On a lighter note, the actor recently finished filming for his new movie, “Itaewon Murder Case,” which will hit theatres sometime this coming September.

What is the most sung Kpop songs for the 1st half of 2009?

Karaoke system companies KumYoung and feelTNG did a tabulation on their karaoke systems fro 1st January till 15th June and had came up with a 50 songs chart for the most sung songs.

They conducted the tabulations leaving out the age groups of the elderlys and children on 30 million norebang (singing room, karaoke room).

And the most sung song is Lee Eun Mi’s ‘I Had A Lover’, and then So Nyeo Shi Dae’s Gee’ at #2 and Baek Ji Young ‘Like Being Hit’ is #3.

4Minute HyunA, “I’m so happy that I had another chance”

HyunA talked about the aftermath of leaving WonderGirls 2 years back. She said in an interview on 22nd, “I had received attention naturally when WonderGirls ‘Tell Me’ was gaining popularity. It was a lot going for a 15-year-old. I had depression then and I had many bad thoughts in my head. My health also deteriorated and my weight fell to 38kg.”

She continued, “But I also learnt a lot through this tough times. I couldn’t get away with the thought that I have to leave the stage. And I had the greed to perform on stage again. Now that I think of it, as a WonderGirls member was not a place for me. I’m very blessed to have another great chance again.”

Kim HyunA had left WonderGirls back in 2007 on the reasons of health. After that WonderGirls had got a new member Kim YooBin in her place and had received much popularity for their hit ‘Tell Me’.

She said, “I’m really thankful to WonderGirls. Letting my name be known to the world. I have been keeping in contact with the members and we are very close. People had said that we were in a fight, but I have never thought of it so. It is my dream to meet everyone again in another group with different charms.”

There hasn’t been a strong presence of Asians or Asian-Americans in the music of the United States. Several artists like BoA and Utada have carved very small niches for their fans online. One of the latest groups to attempt breaking into the US market is Korea’s Wonder Girls. Managed by JYP Entertainment, The Wonder Girls have become minor internet sensations with their music videos for “Tell Me” and “Nobody.” One could find thousands of vocal covers, dance-covers, homemade English versions, and music video parodies of many of the Wonder Girls’ discography.

The Wonder Girls have even made concert tours in the United States under JYP Entertainment hitting New York City and Los Angeles. The girls have spent the last few months training in English as well as reproducing their music from Korean. Soon they will be releasing their hits “Nobody” and “Tell Me” into the English market. Can the girls hit the Billboard charts with steam or will they be like Utada and bubble in the upper 100s of the Top 100? Here are a few advantages the Wonder Girls have over Boa and Utada.

It has been known that Yang EunJi has left Baby Vox Rev last year end after rumours came up that she will be marrying soccer star Lee Ho.

A Baby Vox Rev representative said on the 23rd, “Yang EunJi had intentions to leave the group last year and afterwhich she had not promote together with the group. She had also sent in her certification of withdrawal from the group.”

Baby Vox Rev was said to be on their special activities last Autumn. But after that there were rumours that the group disbanded from music industry insiders. The members are currently not doing any promotions.

The group’s representative said, “Yang EunJi had been maintaining a love relationship with Lee Ho, and marriage is just a matter of time. I heard that they were talking about marriage. Just that the date has not been decided.”

It was known that group 4Minute’s car was damaged along with their belongings like video camera containing the videos during their promotions were stolen on 21st June near their practice place.

And it has yet to be known if it is the act of fans or anti-fans. But they have engaged the help of the police for investigation into the incident.

PlayCube Entertainment said on the 22nd, “We do no think that this is the act of the fans. The fans had often visited the girls at the practice room, and had maintained a good relationship with us and the girls. We even gave buy them drinks and ice creams during warm weathers.”

“We want to think that this is not the doing of anti-fans too. The stolen camcorder contains the choreography performed by the girls during their practice, and it is very important information to our team. It is a shame that this information is lost.”

Meanwhile the girls have their debut stage on 18th June on Mnet M!Countdown with the song ‘Hot Issue’.
