Would SNSD syndrome be successful once again?

So Nyuh Shi Dae's title song 'Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)' of their 2nd mini album was released at 10 AM on the 22nd through various music web sites. So Nyuh Shi Dae brought along the 'Gee' Syndrome during the first half of the year and their comeback was the hottest topic of discussion in the music industry of this summer.

In the middle of all this discussion, many musical personnel are surprised at the release of 'Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)'. The reason is simple. So Nyuh Shi Dae has strayed from their hook style song that has been dominating the music industry for the past 2~3 years.

'Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)' that will follow up on 'Gee' Syndrome has a fantastic intro that played smoothly into the bright and refreshing chorus defining it as a trendy dance song. The meaning of the song is that the girls of So Nyuh Shi Dae will become 'Goddess of Luck' to supply energy to all those who are exhausted or depressed due to their busy schedule and loss of courage and passion.

'Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)' has a repeating chorus but it clearly differs from other hook style songs. So Nyuh Shi Dae straying away from the hook style with their comeback means that they are challenging the majority. The possibility that So Nyuh Shi Dae will create and introduce a new trend into the music industry is a topic of interest.

Most people thought that So Nyuh Shi Dae will be making a stable comeback rather than an adventurous one. Most expected that a they were going to show a transformation in a stable setting with promised success rather than a risky adventure.

However So Nyuh Shi Dae overturned all of these views. 'Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)' does has it's basis as a trendy pop dance song, but it definitely has fresh sound that was not easy to come by in Korea. Also, just considering the fact that So Nyuh Shi Dae went against the majority of the hook style is enough to an interesting fact by itself.

It is still too early to determine level of success that So Nyuh Shi Dae faces to the listeners that are accustomed to the hook style songs. However the response on the first day of the release is nothing but positive. So Nyuh Shi Dae's title song 'Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)' of their 2nd mini album was released at 10 AM on the 22nd through various music web sites. 'Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)' shot up the real time charts as soon as the release and soon dominated the charts by proudly rising up to #1 spot. It is also #1 on search engines as well. It is foreseen that So Nyuh Shi Dae who possess powerful fans will no doubt dominate other girl groups on not just album sales but other aspects as well.

The attention is leaning towards the possibility of So Nyuh Shi Dae transforming the music industry from the hook style that is currently dominating the mass of the listeners.

So Nyuh Shi Dae's company SM Entertainment representative stated during the interview with Newsen on the 22nd that, "The album was prepared with the intention to introduce new and various styles of music to the listeners" and "We wanted to show the improvements of the girls after 'Gee' and the results of that quest is 'Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)'".

What do you all think? Did you even notice the difference in this hook style? xD

Genie does sound really different from their previous songs. XD Wasn't really expecting them to release something like this, tbh.

lol or like Gee. Best example.

i think they mean that you get "hooked" by the song from the very first listen - like gee, which was pretty addictive right away.
genie is more of a grower.

I was thinking something like "GEE GEE GEE GEE BABY BABY BABY" or "TELL ME TELL ME T-T-T-T-T-TELL ME", but since I don't know anything I'm probably wrong, lol.

this is somewhat true. i read somewhere that "hook songs" rely on the repeated words and syllables that occur within the chorus to get the listeners "hooked" on the song. it's like a drug for your ears. xD

it's definitely the kind of song that grows on you, rather than pulling you inn from the first listen. it'll be interesting to see how it fares in the long run, since the style is really so different from what you usually see in kpop.
if promoted correctly, it can definitely be anther major hit, but it's a bit of a gamble imo.

This song.. is a risk they've got to take.
I don't think it'd be as powerful as gee though.

i haven't heard genie quite yet (still downloading) so i can't really say if it's the same or not.

i just hope that the album is what people expect. i hate it when the company pressures the artists into making a "fresh" or "new" sound a lot of the times. sometimes, sounding similiar like your older stuff isn't so bad. ♥

hm. true. i guess we'll just have to see what happens with genie.

I absolutely hear no difference. It's still the same texture of music. Though, I don't know if it's just me, but "Genie" is very JPop sounding. It feels like some weird hybrid of Perfume and SPEED. But I'm liking the techno feel of the track; it's a nice little summer song.

Yeah, I don't really find it all too different either...parts of the melody sound really like deja vu to me, though I've yet to figure out where that feeling is coming from...

I know...the chorus is very deja vu. Like S.H.E.???

I don't know...I don't really listen to SHE so I don't think that's it...for some reason a commercial jingle is coming to mind...>_<; or game show song...especially for the beginning part of the chorus, before they sing the whole genie schpell...

Overall, the song wasn't what I was expecting to hear from them, and I'm glad for it. I love Soshi, but as far as their music is concerned, there wasn't really a lot of it that I liked until the Gee mini album came out. And then they follow it up with Genie, which I adore, and they seem to be heading in a musical direction that I can really appreciate and enjoy!

It's good to make a change, and this is one that I think suits them. I'm a happy fan, anyway XD

Genie is definitely different. It has a very unique sound to it, it's the kind of song that rings in your head for days although you have no idea what the actual lyrics are. I agree that this song is more of a grower, however I don't think it's as strong as Gee.

hm, I still expected something better..
I don't really like the song, but whatever,
It isn't as strong as I thought it would be

It's definitely different, but with the same repetitive style.
Just instead of "Gee gee gee gee", they repeat "Tell me your wish" at least 15 times.
I still like it though. :)

i love every song snsd has, so i didn't feel they needed to change their style, but i do think that this song is the best thing for them as artists because i think it can serve as a transition song. it would have been really easy to follow up "gee" with more of the same, which would guarantee them a hit, but it would have been more difficult for them to mature as artists if they became too comfortable with one sound.

no one, snsd or their fans, expects this song to be as big as "gee", although with the size of their fanbase, it'll obviously be successful. and i think that's the best thing. it'll do well with less expectations and lay the groundwork for their sound to evolve better than it would have otherwise.

I am actually glad they released something different because lately all songs girl groups release are the same thing.

i have no idea what the difference is.
just that genie sounded a like a cf song?

yes, so agree, it does sound like a sound for a commercial especially the chorus...or game show...

It's SNSD so really at this point in time they could release an album of them burping the alphabet and it would be a hit.

I still like Gee better, but Genie is freaking awesome too.

well i noticed that it was different from whatever they had been doing, but i can't really tell if it'll be a big success. so far i've heard really mixed reviews on Genie.

i like it a lot better than gee, tbh~
it's probably one of my favourite songs from them since 'Beginning'

Lol! That's pretty cool... I dunno, I'm already hooked (rofl) on the song~ I went to the DMV today singing, "Sowoneul malhaebwa~!" It is definitely a different style than their previous releases, but quite frankly, I'm really liking it. Gee does have a lighter feel and is also catchy, which is why people would probably prefer that over this.

The very beginning and end, I think, plays into the MV somehow. It doesn't really fit, lol. The teaser of the MV reminds me of some 80s hit... Or Snoop Dogg's Sensual Seduction? *dies* I dunno, I'm just eager for it to be out already!

I think Genie sounds more... masculine? Like to me it sounds like a SuJu/Shinee song with girls singing. Or maybe it's just not hyperfeminine like their usual stuff.

I love the new song! It's different from the majority of what's in k-pop atm. The hook thing is such an easy route to take to be popular but this has a fresh appeal (for now). I might actually become a fan of theirs when I never thought I would be. Kudos to SM for changing it up!!!!

The song to me seems very 90s bubblegum pop to me. I definitely like this song more than Gee (I initially hated Gee but it grew on me).

It's definitely not a bad thing to stray away from the trend and their original musical direction. Just take a look at Super Junior; their third album is da bomb. "Monster" is definitely not a mainstream song but everyone loves it.

Anyway my point is that I got hooked onto SNSD because of this song. I might have remained a SNSD neutral (or disliker because of my friend's influence), if they released a song that is just like Gee.

Kudos to SNSD and SM. Seems they are doing a good job with the musical side
Just treat your artistes better and stop lying to the fans
