On the morning of June 23, Joo Ji-hoon appeared in court to receive his sentencing after pleading guilty to drug use of ecstasy and ketamine, and his fans can relax, since he got off pretty lightly.

His punishment is six months of jail with one year of probation (a suspended sentence) and 120 hours of community service, plus a penalty of 360,000 won (which is only approx US $280). That’s lighter than the one year and 440,000 won fine he had sought earlier this month. What this means is, he gets to suspend his six months of hard time while he is on probation for a year; if he remains clean (of any crime, not just drugs), the offense is essentially cleared and he doesn’t have to serve his initial sentence.

The decision was explained, “The nature of the crime is by no means light. However, he has reflected deeply on the crime and has not taken any drugs since the time a year and two months ago. Also, many fans from within the country and from overseas have appealed for an appropriate handling of the matter and sent petitions.”

Joo’s lawyer explained, “Of course he must accept the price of his crime, but wrong information kept coming out and exaggerated him as a habitual user, and some of it was unfair.”

As for his partners in crime, actress and trafficker Yoon Seol-hee was given three years in jail, while model and financer Yeh Hak-young and the unidentified Mr./Ms. Jeon were both given two and a half years of jail, but with four years of suspended-sentence probation, plus two years of regular probation and 200 hours of community service.

wow he has more jail time then Chris Brown. I don't really have any thoughts on this matter.

Actually, I don't understand why he got such a light sentence in comparison to the other offenders. :/

probably because they were trafficking and he used it once over a year ago

yeah, this. i do like joo ji hoon, but the line "he has fans appealing for an appropriate handling of the matter"? :| hmmmm.

that line bothers me, too

though i think he deserved somewhat of a lighter sentence, at least, because this was one instance over a year ago. whereas the others have been trafficking

yeah, i know what you mean. it just seems like such a tactless move to say something like that ... but oh well.

something mighta been lost in translation? maybe they meant they realized they were being a bit too uptight about the whole thing and the fans opened up their eyes haha

i think the petitions served more as a reminder of the fact that , yes hes a star, so they hype around this is obvs big, but not to forget that he used ONCE, over a year ago while he was drunk, hasnt since then. A one time drug use deserves a lighter sentence than the others, who were smuggling and trafficking for quite a while, but I think this would make more sense in terms of the mentioning of petitions :|

That's the first thing I though, though I wonder how Korea would handle a case similar to Disturbia'09. I mean, if they let a company sue a dead women because her husband beat her...

he got a lighter sentance because he wasn't traffiking or dealing. people don't normally go to prison after getting caught taking drugs once.

... i hope it wasn't just for the fans that they decided to handle the case appropriately

I'm sad he has to go to jail at all, but it's better than getting a year for sure. :((((

When this whole things started, I didn't care too much because I forgot how much I loved JJH. But I just watched Antique Bakery and Naked Kitchen and it's like omg noooo. ;__;

So...say he killed someone, if his fans sent petitions they'd also make his sentence not as harsh?

Isn't outside influences like....not allowed?
Meh I'm not good with the law but I'm just wtf-ing at that statement. O_o

wait, so if he commits any crime at all during the year of probation, then he goes to jail for 6 months? is that what's going on, or is it just late and i should go to bed?

if he commits any crime during probation , which is after the six montsh of jail i believe, he would go to jail for the original sentence on top of the time he did already.
...i think...

yeah but it's a suspended sentance , which made me believe he doesn't have to go to prison unless he gets tested in his probatoion period and if he fails during that time THEN he goes to prison no?

sorry for the late reply.

i understood it as him sefving six months, then upon finishing that time entering the year of probation
