2NE1 will have their 2nd stage with ‘Fire’ on SBS Inkigayo on 24th May.

For their activities, YG has announced that they will control on the group’s performances. As a newcomer, they will only perform once on stage a week.

The group is said to be one of the most anticipated newcomer group of the year. Already before their debut, they have been in the spotlight for their collaborate CM song ‘Lollipop’ with group Big Bang.

And for their debut stage on SBS Inkigayo on 17th May, they have the show’s viewerhip shoot up to a record of 14.93%.

2NE1’s 1st stage last week was a good one because they had great sound systems as installed by the broadcast program staff. And this week, they will also be back with great sound system for their performance, prepared beforehand of the telerecording.

And to review their first stage, the girls received advice from Big Bang on how they should hold their mics and also they had Yang Hyun Seok himself to rearrange their choreography.

Singer Son DamBi will have her goodbye stage for her song ‘Saturday Night’ on 23rd May on MBC Music Core.

She will perform a special remix performance of ‘Crazy’ and ‘Saturday Night’.

Also for MBS Music Core on 23rd, 2PM JaeBum will show off his own choreographed aecrobatic performance, and After School Park Ga Hee will also have her own solo dance performance.

Besides the usual performance and endorsement deals, many artistes are also likely to invest. According to Korea media reports, actor Bae Yong Joon is currently the richest South Korean celebrity.

With the rebound of the Korean stock market this year, celebrities who dabbled in the stock market benefitted significantly in terms of wealth. According to Korean media reports, there are currently five South Korean celebrities with stocks worth over 1 billion won (about S$1.16million); among them is Bae, who owns the largest portion, 34.8%, of the shares in Korean listed company KeyEast.

As compared to the first trading day of this year, KeyEast’s share price has soared by over 50 percent with Bae earning about 6 billion won (about S$7 million) from it, making him into the richest South Korean celebrity at present.

Second in line is the entertainment company which manages the famous South Korean boy band Tohoshinki. Third is Asian superstar Rain, who owns 13.36% of the shares of J.Tune Entertainment, which shares have hit a market price of 3.6 billion won (S$4.3million).

JoonSeo (24), member of group Blue Spring, who had gone missing after leaving what seems like a suicide letter on his minihompy on 19th May, had been found.

He was found in a charnel house (place where human skeletons are placed) at around 12.15pm on 21st May. He was found unconscious, and was hospitalised. He was found exhausted but his health condition was not in danger.

The police is currently investigating into the case, but it is likely that JoonSeo has felt very lonely and had went to the charnel house where the remains of his late father lies.

JoonSeo had left what seemed like a suicide letter on 19th and were missing and not contactable for about 7 days.

JoonSeo’s company has voiced, “We are very sorry about bringing up such an embarrassing confusion to everyone. JoonSeo also felt regretful for his act. We thank everyone for the concern.”

Singer Navi performed singer songwriter Lee Seung Chul’s hit ‘Scream’ on SBS Power FM on 20th May and had won praises from Lee Seung Chul who was present.

Lee Seung Chul said, “She sang the song better than I do.” And netizens’ comment on the radio show noticeboard were, “It would be great if she can perform that one more time”, “She seriously don’t sound like a newcomer”.

Lee Seung Chul has requested personally on the show for Navi to sing his song. He said, “Even though it is the same song, she is one singer who sang it better than me. I think Navi is going to make it big.”

BoA, a South Korean pop star now active in the United States, is poised to take off in the United States, stealing the limelight as a promising singer.

BoA, 22, is scheduled to perform on the Main Stage of the San Francisco Pride to be held in San Francisco June 28 along with Solange Knowles, sister of Beyonce, a top American R&B singer, and rock band Cliks.

The SF Pride's Main Stage serves as a key conduit to introduce major, cutting-edge artists on the verge of stardom. During last year's pride, Lady Gaga, who has been sweeping the Billboard Charts recently, headlined the Main Stage.

Entertainment analysts say the event will help BoA get a spotlight in the world's largest album market. In fact, the Web site of the SF Pride introduces BoA as a singer who has enjoyed an extremely successful nine-year career in Asia.

In an effort to spur her U.S. activity, BoA, has signed a contract with Creative Artists Agency (CAA), the No. 1 Hollywood entertainment agency.

Under the contract, within North America, CAA is representing the 22-year-old in all areas including music, film and merchandising. The agency is mulling a U.S. tour in the late second half of the year.

BoA released her U.S. album on March 17 amid high expectations that she will be able to reenact her success story in Japan in the United States.

While I think the news item title is somewhat exaggerating, at least she will be this time performing for an audience that isn't 95% Korean American.

Lee Young-ae is one of those A-list stars whose next project is highly anticipated, but fans will have to wait a bit longer for her comeback, because she has announced that she is going back to school for her doctorate.

Lee Young-ae graduated from Hanyang University with a degree in German, then attended graduate school at Joongang University and earned her master’s in theater and film. She will be starting her program at Hanyang’s graduate school of theater in film for the latter semester this year.

Lee’s management explained that she isn’t going for her doctorate with the specific goal of becoming a professor: “She merely has a strong interest in studying, and after she earned her master’s degree she wanted to keep going with school. She won’t stop working because of her doctorate course.” She plans to begin her studies in early June.

The 38-year-old actress has been selective with her projects and hasn’t acted much in recent years after her hugely successful drama series Dae Jang Geum in 2004 and the film Sympathy for Lady Vengeance in 2005. No doubt her return project, whatever it ends up being, will be met with a great amount of interest.

Gu Hye-sun’s novel Tango, for which she recently held a book signing, contained the actress’s illustrations. Now she’s holding an art exhibition to show off more of her artwork.

Gu Hye-sun’s exhibition will take place next month in Insadong and feature forty of her illustrations. Her short film, The Cheerful Caretaker, screened at the Pusan International Film Festival on May 17. Meanwhile, she is also songwriting eleven songs to feature on her own album.

Fangirls got a free hug and could buy some bread from Paris Baguette, with the boys acting as salesmen. All bbang (bread) -money and donations went to charity for children.

From the 16th of this month the new commercial for ‘Post Cranberry Almond Granola’ was revealed on television, asking the consumers, ‘If there is a delicious cereal, how good does it have to be…?’In this commercial, the already established ‘face’ of Post Cornflakes, Shin Aera asks ‘Do you know? Which cereal is popular nowadays?’ and shows SNSD members eating the product by themselves.

The brand spokesman, An Kyongho, stated “This product aims to change the thoughts of the regular consumers that cereal is only for children,” and “hence for this product we chose SNSD, who are popular stars that are recognized by people of all ages, to be the models.”

Jimmy Iovine, the chairman as well as the core person of a US famous records company Interscope (Universal Record) is going to meet with a girl group, 2NE1, in end of May.

2NE1’s management company, YG Ent.’s representative Yang Hyun Suk, mentioned on 19th during the interview with Moneytoday Starnews: “Iovine will come to Korea end of the month” “By that time, we will officially introduce 2NE1 to Iovine”.

Also, Yang Hyun Suk said: “Few months back, in order to discuss about Se7en’s debut in US, I was introduced to meet with Jimmy Iovine for the first time through a friend” “Jimmy Iovine is known as the No. 1 man in the US music industry, is the record producer that I want to learn from”.

Big Bang TOP will not participate in overseas filming of his current drama ‘IRIS’ to Hungary due to the group’s promotion in Japan.

TOP will follow with the other Big Bang members to Japan for their activities due to last 2-3 months. As compared to his acting, he has put more priority on his singing career.

Big Bang will release their debut single ‘My Heaven’ on 24th June, and they will follow with another single release in July. And TOP will concentrate on Big Bang’s Japanese activities for the months to come.

Filming that includes TOP for drama ‘IRIS’ has been agreed by with the drama production grow to be pushed back. TOP has expressed that it is a shame that he could not do overseas filming with the other actors to the drama like Lee Byung Heon and Kim Tae Hee.

Other than the upcoming ‘IRIS’, TOP will also participate in the upcoming SBS telecinema ‘19′

Oh, sad. Veteran actress Yeo Woon-kye passed away on May 22 after battling cancer. She had initially been diagnosed with cancer of the kidneys in 2007, and had seemed to make a full recovery. However, it was not long ago that she found out that the disease had traveled to her lungs.

Yeo was 69 years old and enjoyed a career spanning 47 years; she had been seen in numerous dramas and films over the years — if you’ve been watching dramas for a while, chances are you’ve seen her more than a few times (she was my favorite cranky granny and a great comic as well as dramatic actress).

Yeo Woon-kye began acting in the late 1950s as a university student, although her bona fide debut came when she joined a theater company following graduation in 1962. She had said in an interview of her early days, “My family strongly opposed my becoming an actor, so I had to give it up and decided to go to school to go into teaching, but even after waiting, there was no space available at school. So that’s how I started acting. It was like fate.”

Some of her more recent roles came in dramas like Dae Jang Geum in 2003, My Name Is Kim Sam-soon in 2005, Bad Family in 2006, and Golden Age of the Daughter-in-Law in 2007.

She is survived by her husband, Cha Sang-hoon (72), a former university professor, and two children (one son, one daughter).

Japan’s political parties yesterday agreed to repeal a rule that forces certain Korean-Japanese there to carry alien registration cards at all times.

The alien registration card has been cited as an example of Japanese discrimination against foreigners, especially Korean-Japanese who make up a large segment of society. Korean-Japanese there say the decision opens a new chapter for their human rights.

According to Japanese media reports, Japan’s ruling coalition of the Liberal Democratic Party and New Komeito Party and the opposition Democratic Party tentatively agreed to withdraw a bill that was to make it mandatory for Koreans born in Japan to carry a “new certificate card for special residents.”

The Japanese government plans to replace the alien registration card with new certificate cards containing detailed information about foreign individuals living in the country.

The requirement to carry the card at all times will end in 2012 following a legal revision, according to reports.

Currently, when a non-Japanese citizen - including one born in Japan to foreign parents - intends to stay in Japan for 90 days or more, that person is required to file his or her address with the local government and carry an alien registration card at all times.

Even permanent residents, such as Korean-Japanese, are obligated to follow the alien registration law, enacted in 1952.Violators may be imprisoned with hard labor or subject to fines.
