Jimmy Iovine, the chairman as well as the core person of a US famous records company Interscope (Universal Record) is going to meet with a girl group, 2NE1, in end of May.

2NE1’s management company, YG Ent.’s representative Yang Hyun Suk, mentioned on 19th during the interview with Moneytoday Starnews: “Iovine will come to Korea end of the month” “By that time, we will officially introduce 2NE1 to Iovine”.

Also, Yang Hyun Suk said: “Few months back, in order to discuss about Se7en’s debut in US, I was introduced to meet with Jimmy Iovine for the first time through a friend” “Jimmy Iovine is known as the No. 1 man in the US music industry, is the record producer that I want to learn from”.

During the recent interview with Moneytoday Starnews, Yang Hyun Suk mentioned: “Jimmy Iovine has watched 2NE1’s leader CL’s training clips, he praised her that she has the great potential to become an outstanding person.”
Interscope is one of the biggest US entertainment management company that has the current most famous artists under them, such as Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Limp Bizkit.

Besides, 2NE1 has showed their gorgeous debut stage on 17th through SBS Inkigayo. After 2NE1’s debut stage was aired, it has been introduced by a famous US blogger Perez Hilton on his blog, receiving great attention from local and also overseas.

Member of 2NE1, Gong Min Ji has received the support from her granny, Ms. Gong Yuk Jung.

Being the youngest in 2NE1, Gong Min Ji mentioned on 20th during the interview with Newsen “I have received lotsa supports and cheers from granny during this period.” She also expressed her love and respect to her granny.
Gong Min Ji stated: “Granny advised me that ‘you have to burn your passion first then you only can feel the passion from the others. You must become an outstanding member in the future’.”

Since the trainee period in YG Ent., Gong Min Ji has gained attention due to her identity of being the granddaughter of Ms. Gong Yuk Jung. She has started to learn dancing since 7 yrs old, and has the outstanding dancing skill among 2NE1.
Regarding the coordination with the 26-yr-old Park Bom and Sandara Park, Gong Min Ji mentioned with a smile: “Unnies are excellent, we didn’t even feel any age gaps between us.”
Sandara Park also stated: “Min Ji is very polite to the elders, and I have learn a lot about dancing from Teacher Gong (Minji’s nickname).”

and i just can't help myself to share some of her pics before debut.

it's unfortch but younger kpop acts will always have a better shot. A group like 2pm (if it were smaller, 7 is a bit ridiculous) could do really well. speaking better and less accented English earlier and staying up with musical trends or slightly ahead of the curve is the only way a group/an artist from Asia could succeed in the states. and for girls, the cutesy stuff won't fly here either

well i think 2ne1 has a fair shot, i mean 3 out of 4 of them can speak english. i've heard cl and sandy speak english before fairly well, not sure about bom but i know she can since she's studied in berkeley before.

thing is, 2ne1 hasn't even released an album yet in korea. things are moving way too fast, methinks.

yeah that's what I was saying. groups like 2ne1 and 2pm in comparison to the older, established acts that actually want to come over here are more likely to make it. Also since Minji is still a baby, her ability to learn other languages hasn't dropped off quite as dramatically as it will when she's like 17+.
but yeah they should slow their collective roll. they haven't even released a mini-album! and they've only performed like once

of all korean groups?
seriously?

Well, I think they have a fair chance. Musicwise, yes, 2ne1 is more of the American market. Add to the fact that at least 3 out of 4 members can speak English [Bom, Sandy and CL--it's nvr too late for Minji to learn].

Except for one thing.

They haven't even released their debut album in Korea yet.

I want to say they should have more time in Korea...but then the question is if you become famous in your own country do you really want to go through the process of trying, and honestly more than likely failing in another country? I mean I know America is like a big goal for some people but maybe they should start them over here when they are new?

well obviously yg talking to iovine about se7en did nothing, so i doubt he'll do anything for 2ne1.

they JUST debuted in korea. i think they should slow down on thinking about the u.s. and just focus on being successful in korea for the time being.

minji is too awesome.

It's kind of annoying me how they're moving so fast. /:

I honestly like them, but I feel they should like..work more for it.
So many artists took years to get famous and it's been a few days since their stage debut and they're already well-known in Korea AND America. And the fact that they have YG and BB helped imo.

Idk. Good for them though. I love CL and Minji~
It'd be really interesting if they debuted in USA.

Well, Korean American fanbase is a bit of an obstacle for BoA and Se7en (it's hard, maybe even impossible, for them to break out from the image of Korean artist targeting Korean Americans), so it would make sense for 2NE1 to try to break into American market early. But anyhow Jimmy Iovine is a HUGE player in the world's music field, so I wonder what are his real reasons for going to Korea? Maybe trying to buy YG's business? Trying to buy 2NE1 or at least CL's contract away from YG? Proposing of joint venture in Asian market with YG? It's just weird that such a head honcho flies to Korea to meet YG instead of YG flying into States.

I don't know what's up with this unspoken rule of having to conquer Korea, Asia then America. We're not living in the past. Breaking the rules is what sets you apart. I mean stuff like American Idol is one example where poeple welcome artist who didn't take the long route to fame. Also, if they successfully make it big in the States, and I hate to say this but wouldn't they automatically be huge in Korea? They'll come back to Korea as the-people-who-made-it.

If YG's plan for them is to eventually break into the American market, I'd say there's no harm doing it now or in the earlier stage of their career. I mean, look at BoA and how she went to debut in Japan really early in her career, she's huge there and in Korea.

Just an observation.

I was wondering too. If they/YG truly wants them to break into the US makret I don't see why the wait. I think it may be better if they come here first because the Korean market is very diffrent from that of the U.S. and they might get set in their ways/not adapt as easily.
