Lotte Cinema will work with the renowned fashion designer for a charity event

Lotte Cinema said Thursday that it will work with Andre Kim for a six-month event where the fashion designer will design movie tickets, part of whose sales is to be donated to help children in need.

Starting from March 25, those using the cinema will receive tickets designed by Kim, and one Korean won per ticket sale will go to the UNICEF to be used for child welfare and human rights.

Kim, who is serving as a goodwill ambassador to the UNICEF, will personally join the launch of the event by working at the box office of the theater’s Konkuk University branch next Wednesday from 2:30 p.m.

“More and more multiplex theaters are replacing tickets with receipts to reduce costs, so issuing specially designed tickets is like going against the trend,” a Lotte Cinema staffer said. “Besides the donation, we will show an ad to promote the UNICEF before each movie for four months.”

Actress Choi Yeo-jin has expressed deep gratitude for actor So Ji-sub at the KBS2 talk show “Happy Together” aired on Thursday. She said that So helped her a lot when she had just debuted and did not yet know much about acting.

Choi first got to know the star when she was cast for the role of So’s girlfriend who dumped him for a rich man in the 2004 KBS2 hit drama “I'm Sorry, I Love you”

The drama is special to me because it helped me get where I am now. I was very lucky to get the part because I was then a rookie actress with no experience in acting,” she said. “I appeared in only four episodes, but I drew a lot of attention because my role was his girlfriend.

She added, “We often had to retake a scene over and over again due to my mistakes, but So never got upset but rather encouraged me and gave me advice. I was so grateful for that. I still watch the drama whenever I feel things get hard, to get courage.

Choi also talked about an anecdote about some baseball players who tried to win her love when she appeared as one of six women hosts on the KBS2 weekend show “Happy Sunday” in 2006. “One of them even hinted that he wanted to marry me, but he was not my type,” she said smiling.

Having sent off Shinhwa members Eric and Kim Dong Wan to the army last year, JunJin and Minwoo are next in line to get enlisted within 2009. In a recent interview, JunJin expressed, "I will be releasing my new album on 9th April. Recording is 50% completed." The title track is expected to be a dance number that will accentuate JunJin's strong dancing ability. JunJin is now working hard finishing the recording and rehearsing the dance chereography.

As JunJin has already been earmarked for enlistment this year, this album will be the last time that fans will be able to see him active as a singer. JunJin added, "Because of my age, I have to go into the army this year. But the exact time hasn't been confirmed as yet." JunJin was last active as a singer in April 2008, performing his title song Wa from his first album New Decade. He is currently very active on MBC appearing from Monday - Fridays on That Person Is Coming sitcom, Infinity Challenge on Saturday and We Got Married on Sunday. When JunJin does leave, who will be replacing him in Infinity Challenge? And there will be another replacement couple for We Got Married most probably.

Yes, SM Entertainment is responsible for bringing things like Super Junior and “sexy” into the same sentence, making So Nyeo Shi Dae use lollipops as actual props, and allowing Dong Bang Shin Ki’s “Tri-Angle” to even see the light of day — but SM has also got the industry down pat, and much moreso than any of three major entertainment labels in Kpop.

About a decade before Korean entertainment had a “wave,” SM was already plowing away at what it saw to be the most marketable portion of teenage consumption — pop idols. H.O.T. and S.E.S. was there for the girls and boys who needed something more than the mundane school-home-food-study-sleep routine, and they were both successful groups in their own rights. Before long, Shinhwa came along and to this day, they’re still the longest running boyband in Korea, even if enough of them are in the army, and the rest of them have active solo careers.

The fact that Song Yoon Ah decided to talk about her brief encounter with the disgusting underbelly of Kpop can mean either one of two things: 1. Song Yoon Ah, an a-list actress in the Korean entertainment industry, felt personally obligated after the heart breaking death of a colleague to forewarn young actresses about the hellish consequences of becoming prey to powerful men, or 2. the Korean entertainment industry, with increasing public pressure, has finally decided to own up to what they have been too cowardly to admit and finally talk in the open about their dirty secrets. While I do not in any way doubt Song Yoon Ah’s integrity and courage to speak out about this issue, for the sake of the vulnerable, weak, and powerless young women, it is my humble hope that the latter is true.

On yesterday’s episode of “Park Joong Hoon’s show”, when asked to comment on the tragic death of a colleague, Song Yoon Ah decidedly bypassed the typical hodgepodge of inconsequential answers and chose to share about her personal experience as a young actress just starting out in the business. The actress started off by saying, “the business of being an actress is in no way easy. There are those “calls” that come in the middle of the night, asking you to come out and meet different power players of big corporations. I, too, have received such calls. Fortunately for me, I was able to decline the offer to meet up with that person and immediately cut off any possible future contact. I do not know what possessed me at the time to be able to say “no”. It may have just been naive confidence, but I believed whole heartedly that I would be able to succeed as an actress and make a name for myself on my own. Young actresses, when promised a fast track road to success and fame, can easily fall into the traps set up by powerful people with evil intentions. They should never ever give in to the temptations. The kind of life these people are offering should never be pursued.”

Naive young people with dreams of fame that are pursued at any cost, wicked ceo’s who dangle their power to prey on the vulnerable, an entertainment industry that cowardly condones such secret dealings, a media too caught up in the circus of sensationalism to defend the weak and expose the crooks, and a law enforcement system too corrupt to protect the victims. Everyone is so entwined in a perfectly depraved “harmony” that no wonder it has taken decades for the public to finally be exposed to barely enough to be outraged or in the least interested. What happens when the talks and discussions about this die down? What will be left then? A couple pd’s exposed and that’s it? Let us all hope that the conversation, with the help of courageous actresses like Song Yoon Ah, does not die down and that the justice process for victims like Jang Ja Yeon has only just begun.

The list of men whom that Jang Ja-yeon was forced to “meet” is floating around the internet. Although the government has banned the list from being published on Korean media sites, we have gotten our grubby little hands on the list. From the list (and assuming it’s true), all we can say is that the poor girl had to meet men her father’s age (the oldest listed at 62) with the average age in their 50’s. And these men are higher ups at one of the biggest broadcasting companies and the largest sports newspapers in Korea.

A huge number of 1,800 fans came to the Kara’s fan meeting, causing the whole fan meeting to be stopped.

On the 21st of March, Kara held a fan meeting at a mall. On this day, 1,800 fans showed up to this event, surprising all the Kara associates. They were able to see how popular Kara got.

Even though a huge number of fans came to the event, Kara did their best to keep the meeting going. But, because the maximum capacity of the room was exceeded, the meeting had to be stopped after 30 minutes, for safety concerns.

One associates said, “Because a lot more fans turned up than what we had expected, even Kara was surprised. We tried to keep the event going as we had planned it, but we had to stop for the safety of the fans.

On the other hand, Kara, with the title track ‘Pretty Girl’ and ‘Honey’, was able to gain huge popularity and become one of the top girl groups.

At first I thought they had to shut the fan meeting down cause not enough people showed up. 1,800 seems like fail when I think about suju and dbsk fan meetings. I'll save the fail tag for another day.

The Korean entertainment zone moves on to a new phase.

The first few months of year 2009 has been said to be dominated by KBS 2TV drama Boys Over Flowers and So Nyeo Shi Dae ‘Gee’ wave. Both the drama and the song ‘Gee’ have had both a significant influence on the Korean culture and also economic motivation for the first half of 2009.

However Boys Over Flowers will be ending on 31st March with its last 25th episode. The drama has been extended from 24 episodes to 25 episodes. And So Nyeo Shi Dae will be ending their 1st minialbum activities with their goodbye stage on SBS Inkigayo on 29th March.

Both cultural icons will be stepping out of the K Entertainment scene at the same time.

What to expect for the “post Boys Over Flowers and So Nyeo Shi Dae” period?

For the Kpop zone, we have groups like Davichi and Super Junior who are coming back strong with new hit songs. Also, fans are in for new album release by singers like 2AM and Big Bang GDragon will be releasing his first solo album in April.

Following Boys Over Flowers will be dramas like ‘Six Months’ starring Kim Ah Joong and Hwang Jung Min, ‘Cinderella Man’ starring YoonA and Kwon Sang Woo.

Park Chan-wook's new movie "Thirst", released on Apr. 30, is already generating a huge buzz on the Internet at home and abroad. The preview trailer on YouTube has drawn 150,000 hits so far, and over 150 replies in three to four days.

Whether it will get an invitation from the Cannes Film Festival is another topic for speculation. AFP mentions "Thirst" and Bong Joon-ho's "Mother - 2009" as potential Korean invitees. The decision will be made in late April or early May.

"Thirst", follows Park's last movie after a two-year interval and is a melodrama about an illicit love affair between a priest who becomes a vampire after getting a blood transfusion from an unknown person and the wife of his friend.

"You get a glimpse of a thirst for Forbidden Love, the moral dilemma that a person goes through under extreme circumstances", Park explains. "A priest is a sacred, and sacrificing, figure, but in the movie, he can only survive on the blood of others. I wanted to express the angst that the main character experiences in this dilemma".

On this afternoon, Kim Hyun Joong (23) was being interviewed at an outdoor filming location for KBS2TV Boys Before Flowers. Seeing Hyun Joong, you can't help but feel that he looks a bit weak physically and mentally drained. When asked about what's the 3 most unbearable things he experienced while filming, Hyun Joong expressed without hesistation, "cold", "lack of sleep", "hunger", showing how much suffering he is going through.

Whilst filming in Macau, he lost about 8kg but has now regained 2kg back. Not long ago, he was even "scolded" as his legs turned to jelly while doing a dance. This prompted him to set a resolution to work himself even harder while exercising in future.

The continuous overnight filming sessions plus tight personal schedule has made Hyun Joong's lifestyle become rather irregular and making his fans really worried for his health. But with the drama coming to a conclusion next week, Hyun Joong only muttered "Not bad" to express his feelings. Having already adjusted to the tight and stressful schedule over the past few months, the drama conclusion is starting to make him feel kind of empty (lost)."

It’s official. South Korean stars like Thailand better than Malaysia.

While Malaysia suffers a severe dearth of South Korean stars, neighbouring Thailand seems to be enjoying a healthy flow of Hallyu stars into their land.

Newbie Taegoon visited Thailand (Bangkok and Pattaya) from March 21 to 23. This is the Call Me singer’s first overseas event after debuting on Jan 17.

Taegoon went on a media blitz while at the land of smiles. He appeared on the country’s highest-rated talk show as well as tackled radio, newspaper and magazine interviews.

Fans also got to meet Taegoon up close and personal at the Central World fan meeting where the talent rocked the house with his hit track Call Me. He also autographed CDs for the lucky screaming fans.

Were you there at one of Taegoon’s many events? If you weren’t, no worries as Taegoon’s promotional activities will be shown on Thailand’s MTV network.

Fresh-faced (newbie) actresses who have been picked to endorse Pocari Sweat have also been termed as one who would make great strides in their career. Those who were once Pocari Sweat girls include Go Hyun Jung (1991), Shim Eun Ha (1994), Jang Jin Young (1997), Son Ye Jin (2001) and Lee Yeon Hee (2005).

Dong-A Otsuka expressed, "Kim So Eun's fresh innocent clean image in Boys Before Flowers has been played out over and over again and we see great potential in her which ties in well with our Pocari Sweat energy drink brand positioning."

Despite her busy filming schedule for Boys Before Flowers, Kim So Eun still managed to eke out some time to go to Thailand where she films the CF on the sandy white beaches near a popular holiday resort.
