New actress Kim Min Ji as been selected to play the character known as Umi in the original version of ‘Boys Over Flowers.’

The BOF production company revealed to the Asian Economic Daily news over the phone that, “Kim Min Ji has been decided upon to play the character known as Umi in the Japanese version and she will make her appearance on the 30th in Episode 24 uptil the 25th episode.”

Kim Min Ji was recently in the KBS drama, Empress Cheon Chu and now in BOF she will aid Goo Jun Pyo who loses his memory and ultimately cause a rift between him and Geum Jandi acting as the part of Umi.

In the meantime, ‘Boys Over Flowers’ will end it’s run with the 25th episode to be broadcast on March 31st.

2PM cheered for 2AM's comeback performance.

On the 20th, 2AM had their first comeback performance on KBS 2TV 'Music Bank'. The title song, which Park Jin Young personally composed and wrote the lyrics for, 'A Friend's Confession', has an emotional melody and allows listeners to hear 2AM's unique harmony. On the stage on this day was an orchestra, that was packed backstage and revealed during the second half of the song, that helped keep the rich feeling of the melody alive.

As this day was 2AM's first performance, the members of 2PM came personally to cheer for them. From when they were JYP trainees, 2AM and 2PM had a strong relationship. Selected through a broadcast survival program, these boys were able to debut as 2AM and 2PM.

During a phone interview with Newsen, the agent for 2AM and 2PM said that "all the 2PM members went to the waiting room to cheer on 2AM's first performance" and "because they are all like brothers and help each other out, 2AM welcomed them in a friendly manner".

At one point, 2AM showed that they shed the soft image and became 'men', a fact that many people noticed through the album cover and teaser. Through short haircuts and leather jackets on their backs, an upgraded image that they went from boys to men was effused. In particular, JoKwon and Im Seulong revealed and received a lot of praise from the fans for the muscles that have been hidden.

South Korea's pop star BoA was unable to make a pre-game performance at the second World Baseball Classic Tuesday due to fever and swollen tonsils.

SM Entertainment said, ``BoA had been scheduled to perform before the Korea-Japan baseball final at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles but the abrupt illness forced her to cancel the plan.''

BoA, who had recently entered the American market, has been sick in recent days with her busy schedule in Las Vegas, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Last week, BoA, the Korean-born pop phenom who has sold millions of records in Asia, released her first U.S. album amid high expectations that she will be able to reenact her success story in Japan in the world's largest album market.

The album contains 11 songs including flagship song "I Did It For Love," and dance tracks "Energetic," "Eat You Up," and "Look Who's Talking." The flagship song was written by Sean Garrett, the famous American producer, and its video was directed by Joseph Kahn, who has made promos for Britney Spears, Chris Brown and Eminem and won the Best Video of the Year and Best Direction in the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards.

“I’ll do my best as a representative of Korea. Not only Korean fans but also Asian fans are rooting for our (Se7en and BoA) success. In order to repay their support, I’ll do my best to become a great singer,” Se7en said.

To commemorate its first anniversary, Sports Donga held an email and phone interview with Se7en. The following is what transpired during the interview.

- After three years, your debut song was finally released. How have the reactions been?
I owe a lot to those people who waited for the single’s release. It was a surreal moment when I heard for the first time the song playing in the radio today. I felt, “Ah! I’ve finally debuted!”

- Why was your debut delayed?
It was initially planned that 2 singles be released. But it was decided that I come out with a full album. It was not easy to work on the 12 tracks. After recording, it took a long time to finish everything. Everything in the US is quite slow. That’s not the case in Korea. (laughs)

- Didn’t it cross your mind to return to Korea?
It did. I was constantly craving to return to the stage as I saw my colleague singers performing in music programs. However, I thought that it was most important that I learn English and the local culture. I’ve survived and learned a lot.

- Do you think a Korean singer can succeed in the US?
A Korean singer will be able to succeed in the US if he/she is equipped with great music, talent and good promotions. If a singer is well-prepared, skin color is not an issue.

- During production, were there compliments that you received from the staff?
There’s this one thing that I will never forget although I’m not sure if it was a formal compliment or just a comment (laughs). When producer Darkchild saw me, he said, “Asian invasion!!!” For me, it was the best compliment.

- What do you think is the difference between the US, Korea and Japan with regard to the music industry?”

There are no music programs here as opposed to Asia. Promotions are accomplished through radios and clubs. The US is big so you must jump from one place to another. Starting this week, I’ll start promotions in the East Coast.

- What are your future plans in the US?
Like always, I want to always enjoy work. Whether I succeed or fail, I want to show that I worked hard. Please show your support.

Fellow entertainers report they were made to serve drinks with late actress

Bundang Police reported yesterday that they have identified a high-profile company head who acted inappropriately while being served drinks by late actress Jang Ja-yeon.

Police Reopen Probe into Cause of Jang Ja-yeon Suicide

Police are reopening their investigation of the cause of the suicide of Jang Ja-yeon as a scandal surrounding allegations made in the document she left behind snowballs. Police had initially concluded she committed suicide while suffering from depression.

Jang Ja Yun’s Former Manager May Be Arrested

According to news on the 24th, the police spokesperson from the team responsible for the investigation on Jang Ja Yun’s case, has revealed that a couple of evidences have pointed to the likelihood of the “suicide document” being released even before Jang Ja Yun committed suicide. It seems that all three Epik High members are enveloped in happiness as Tukutz reveals the truth about his own relationship.

Epik High with members Tablo, Mithra Jin and Tukutz banded together to form a hip hop group and debuting in 2003, they have soared with popularity with numerous hit tracks like “One,” “Umbrella,” and “Love Love Love” among others.

Recently, Tablo revealed his relationship with actress Kang Hye Jung and became the envy of the world.

Mithra Jin also revealed that he has a longtime girlfriend whom he’s associating with.

And final member, Tukutz revealed in a fashion magazine interview, “I actually do have a girlfriend,” and “I speak out the name of the person I love when I’m alone.”

The April issue of men’s fashion magazine “Arena” judged the talents of the main vocals of idol groups. Group DSBK’s Xiah JunSu received the highest praise, SNSD’s TaeYeon and Wonder Girls‘ SunYe were given similar marks. SS501’s YoungSeng and Big Bang’s DaeSung, Super Junior’s RyeoWook received the lowest marks.

The judging was done by singer Kim YunWoo, pop music critic Cha WooJin, and M.Net’s Park ChanWook PD. The three said of Xiah JunSu’s voice, “The reason why his vocal does not exceptionally stand out is because of DBSK’s songs,” and “He is a commendable vocalist who we feel sorry to label as an idol singer.” Kim YunWoo said, “He gives a nice feel of having talent as well as having received much training.”

Although not as skilled in comparison with Xiah JunSu, SHINee’s JongHyun received positive feedback. They stated, “He is a singer whose next step we are anticipating more than his current stand,” and “JongHyun’s vocal is one of the reasons why SHINee succeeded.”

TaeYeon and SunYe, who are receiving much interest and attention as members of rival groups Soh Nyuh Shi Dae and Wonder Girls, received positive criticism. They said of TaeYeon, “She knows how to cover up her weaknesses well,” and “She has a plain tone but has an ability to make it noticeable. You can say she is fox-like vocal.” Of SunYe they said, “She has the most mature voice out of the Wonder Girls and she utilizes good breathing technique and intuitively matches the her singing to each song.”

Xiah JunSu’s, JongHyun’s, and TaeYeon’s high marks are largely due to SM Entertainment’s strict vocal training. With H.O.T., SM created symbolic first-generation idol groups with the focus on their outward appearances, but strove hard to find idol singers with skills.
The strong opinion on BoA and Xiah JunSu is that they, at the very least, have surpassed the level of idol singers who rely on the power catchy songs. Thanks to composing and lyric-writing, idols brushing past fundamental creational training to turn into soloists is one of SM’s methods.

On the other hand, they said of SS501’s YoungSeng, “It appears that he has talent, but he is incomplete in effort. The degree to which he is lacking is severe.” In comparison with Xiah JunSu, who is a member of what could be seen as rival group DBSK, he is of average level. They also said of Super Junior’s RyeoWook, “He only sings the high parts within Super Junior, he is unable to show personal color,” and of Big Bang’s DaeSung, “He tends to overconfidently sing high-pitched parts but he needs to grow the power to control such sounds,” and gave low marks.

So Nyeo Shi Dae Tiffany will released her first solo song since debut.

She will be singing for OST ‘I’m Alone’ to SBS drama ‘Ja Myung Go’.

The song ‘I’m Alone’ will be revealed on Melon, Dosirak and other music sites from 26th March. And it will be included in the drama OST to be released beginning of April.

Meanwhile, So Nyeo Shi Dae will have their goodbye stages this week, ending the promotional activities for their 1st minialbum.

8 members of SNSD and 5 members of Kara appeared on MBC’s “Come to Play” variety program’s “Girls’ Special”, hosted by Yoo Jaesuk and Kim Wonhee, which aired on March 23th.

The first segment of “Come to Play” featuring the girls was the “Girls’ Awards 2009″ which drew viewers’ attention as 45 members from 7 of Korea’s representative idol male groups including DBSK, SS501, Super Junior, Big Bang, FT Island, SHINee and 2PM judged the girls based on 5 different awards presented.

SNSD’s Sooyoung won the “Eloquence and Talent” Award presented for being the most talented girl with a wide array of unique skills. Kara’s Han Seungyeon won the “This is not something negative, but actually means that you are the most attractive” Award presented for resembling the “Queen of Idols” the most in the eyes of the male idols (WTF IS THIS LMAO?!). Kara’s Goo Hara then proceeded to win the “Most Open-minded” Award. SNSD’s Jessica won the “Most Unique and Chic” Award, with the replies from the male idols generating much laughter in the studio. Last but not least, SNSD’s leader Taeyeon won the much anticipated “Popularity” Award yet she was surprisingly nonchalant at thanking the male idols.

Throughout the recording SNSD and Kara presented the witty humour and refreshing personality found in female groups, especially when members revealed the times when they felt they were the most attractive, their personal talents, their mistakes during on-stage performances and many more. Both groups’ candidness brought the atmosphere in the studio to fever pitch while allowing the viewers to experience the peaceful harmony and unique charms found amongst girls of the same age group.
