New figure emerges in the Jang case

Fellow entertainers report they were made to serve drinks with late actress

Bundang Police reported yesterday that they have identified a high-profile company head who acted inappropriately while being served drinks by late actress Jang Ja-yeon.

Lee Myeong-gyun from the Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency announced that police have collected statements from two of Jang’s acquaintances saying that the three of them were forced to act as hostesses for an unidentified head of an online news company.

The two people were fellow female entertainers belonging to Jang’s former talent agency, The Contents Entertainment, run by Kim Sung-hoon.

Lee quoted one of the two women as saying, “Last autumn, Kim called us in to serve drinks to the CEO at a room salon in Seoul. Jang sat beside him and entertained him well.”

The unidentified figure was not, however, mentioned in a document allegedly written by Jang
about situations in which she said she was exploited. The paper turned up after Jang committed suicide earlier this month.

Police said they are planning to summon the person soon. “We have focused on analyzing the contents and names within the document so far, but now we need to enlarge the scope of the probe and investigate this figure,” Lee said.

Police also said that three or four days before Jang committed suicide, she went to a real estate office near her home to send a fax.

“The document was composed of six or seven pages and the handwriting seemed to be hers,” Lee quoted the head of the office as saying.

Authorities are assuming that the document sent via fax could be the same one they are now analyzing.

Lee said, “Jang must have sent the document to ask someone for help before committing suicide.”

Yoo Jang-ho

Meanwhile, Yoo Jang-ho, head of the talent agency that was managing Jang at the time of her death, showed up at the Bundang Police Precinct at 1 p.m. yesterday for questioning. He came with his lawyer and a bodyguard.

“I have never refused to be present for questioning,” said Yoo. “I will sincerely cooperate with the police.”

Before Yoo appeared, Lee said, “We will ask him questions related to the document. Questions include whether the original document was really burned, how many people have seen it, how many were copied and how they were leaked.”

On March 18, Jang’s older brother filed a defamation suit against Yoo and two other people known to be the president of a major media company and an IT firm. The brother is also pressing charges against an additional four for allegedly forcing the late actress to have sex with them.

Police also intend to subpoena an additional five figures listed on the first four pages of Jang’s document. They raided Kim’s old office in Samseong-dong, southern Seoul, on Tuesday and obtained 96 pieces of evidence, including hair and other DNA samples.

The National Institute of Scientific Investigation has been asked to perform an analysis of the evidence.

According to police, a man who had identified himself as “Wang Chen Chen” and a close friend of Jang in a letter to the media postmarked March 9 that claimed Jang was exploited, turned out to be a prisoner being held in Busan.

An investigation has found the sender is a 29-year-old man who has nothing to do with Jang. He has been in jail since 2003,” Lee said. “He is a patient with mental problem and just wrote the letter from media reports.”

Police Reopen Probe into Cause of Jang Ja-yeon Suicide

Police are reopening their investigation of the cause of the suicide of Jang Ja-yeon
as a scandal surrounding allegations made in the document she left behind snowballs. Police had initially concluded she committed suicide while suffering from depression.

Police said they have now identified several people on a list the actress left behind of influential figures with whom her management agency allegedly forced her to have sex. Gyeonggi provincial police on Tuesday said they established a considerable part of Jang’s final movements

Investigators are looking into the cause of Jang’s suicide based on her situation at the time, such as her uneasy relationship with the fugitive head of her management company, identified as Kim, aborted plans for a TV drama, and financial difficulties.

It has emerged that the explosive document had already been leaked before Jang died, and police suspect there was more than just depression behind her suicide, including her shock of finding the list had become public.

Police also said they secured additional documents related to the list, identifying 12 people involved altogether. Jang’s family is suing seven people, her former manager Yoo Jang-ho and two journalists for tarnishing the memory of the dead, and four including Kim on the charge of sexual coercion. The newly obtained documents, police said, identify seven people, but two of them are already being sued by the family, meaning five people have newly become targets of the investigation.

Jang Ja Yun’s Former Manager May Be Arrested

According to news on the 24th, the police spokesperson from the team responsible for the investigation on Jang Ja Yun’s case, has revealed that a couple of evidences have pointed to the likelihood of the “suicide document” being released even before Jang Ja Yun committed suicide. Therefore, the police will be summoning the source person, Jang’s former manager Yoo Jang Ho, for a thorough investigation.

Since it has been scientifically proven that the document was indeed written by Jang Ja Yun herself, the next mystery to solve is whether the document was penned by Jang out of her own will. And apart from the deceased, Yoo is the sole key person who holds the answer to everything. Previously, Yoo had claimed that the document was written by Jang Ja Yun and he did not force her to write it. However, Jang’s family has insisted on the unbelievable contents of the document which they believed to be written by Jang under force. Her family also pointed to the struggle between Yoo and Kim, in which Jang Ja Yun was just an unfortunate sacrifice in their conflict.

The police spokesperson said: “Through the evidences we have gathered till now, we found that Yoo had contacted several respectable figures in the entertainment industry and shown them the ’suicide document’ even before Jang Ja Yun sought her death. Jang Ja Yun seemed to know about it as well. We are uncertain as to the motive of Yoo for his actions. Hence, we have issued a summon to Yoo. If he failed to report to the police station by the 25th, we will then issue an arrest warrant on him. Yoo had failed to comply to previous summons citing health reasons.”

According to one director who have worked with Yoo in the past, Yoo may possibly force Jang Ja Yun to write the “suicide document” and used it as a chip to strike an agreement with Kim. Jang Ja Yun may have also committed suicide after she knew of the document being spread around by Yoo
.

It seems like the case has taken another turn. The one who started everything is now a suspect for Jang Ja Yun’s death? The police reports seemed to hint on Yoo forcing Jang to write the notes and Jang committing suicide after Yoo passed her document around. If this part is true, then Yoo is indeed despicable and deserved to be charged (if possible) for causing Jang’s death. However, if this is a ploy from the “you-know-i-know-rich-and-powerful-them” to try to divert the attention back to Yoo, making hin seemed like the culprit behind all these, then it is truly a sad case. Next step, Yoo committing suicide??? Then case closed due to insufficient evidence and true culprits go scotfree. (Just a random thought and I hope this will not be the case)

here's one more - http://www.hanfever.com/2009/03/24/jang-ja-yuns-former-manager-may-be-arrested/

the more i read about it, the more the case against Yoo seems plausible

I can see how that angle works. If only she had survived, perhaps this case would be solved faster. But then, no one makes a fuss until someone is dead. Excuse the pessimism, I'm just seeing this case getting farther and farther away from being solved.

She already tried to get some justice while she was alive and the people told her to stfu and beat her :( After that she probably felt like it was her fault and didnt want to go to the police.

Like I said, no one makes a fuss until someone is dead. *sad/angry that it has come to this*
Probably thinks she'll just get killed if she tells.

obtained 96 pieces of evidence, including hair and other DNA samples.

OH SHIT! Now they just have to match it up with people.

and wtf @ her suicide document being released even before she killed herself....

the next mystery to solve is whether the document was penned by Jang out of her own will

maybe she was murdered.... maybe all of those other actresses that killed themselves in similar ways were forced to do it :(
