An undertaker who needs woods to build a coffin for the savior of his village digs up an abandoned grave. But while doing so, he accidentally awakens the ghost of an ancient swordsman. Now the ghost tries to take back his coffin.

South Korean award-winning director Park Chan-wook's short film shot entirely on the latest iPhone was released online Friday.

"Life is But a Dream" is part of Apple's "Shot on iPhone" marketing campaign and Park's second iPhone-shot film since "Night Fishing," which won the Golden Bear for Best Short Film at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival.

Renowned filmmakers, such as Michel Gondry, Damien Chazelle, Peter Chan and Jia Zhangke, also took part in the campaign.

Renowned South Korean auteur Park Chan-wook is set to direct a U.S. TV project based on the Pulitzer-wining novel "The Sympathizer," a publisher here said Thursday.

Park, the man behind iconic works like "The Handmaiden" and "Joint Security Area," will work on the TV adaptation of Vietnamese American novelist Viet Thanh Nguyen's award-winning 2015 book, according to Minumsa Publishing Group.

Nguyen voiced excitement over the collaboration on Twitter, saying he "can't imagine a better person to direct this TV adaptation."

"The Handmaiden" by Korea's celebrated film director Park Chan-wook has been nominated for best non-English movie at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), the organizer said Tuesday.

The movie, based on Sarah Waters' Victorian lesbian crime novel "Fingersmith," is among five nominees for the Best Film Not in the English Language category. Other films include "First They Killed My Father" produced by Hollywood actress and director Angelina Jolie.

The erotic thriller was one of 21 films selected for competition at the 69th Cannes Film Festival in 2016. It won Best Foreign Picture and Best Production Design from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) in December the same year.

The 2018 BAFTA awards ceremony is set to take place Feb. 18.

I saw the film in a theater filled with confused and shocked, elderly Koreans lol.

Busan Festival Power Struggle Ends as City's Mayor Steps Down

Kim Dong-ho, the iconic founder of the South Korean event, will step in as fest director in order to host the October event as scheduled.

The long battle for the artistic freedom of the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), has finally come to an end, with organizers announcing on Monday that the 21st edition of the event will take place as scheduled from Oct. 6-15 in the South Korean port city of Busan.

Organizers of Asia's largest cinema event have been at odds with the Busan metropolitan government for the past year and eight months, with local filmmaker coalition groups threatening to boycott BIFF in order to protect its artistic freedom. Fest organizers and local authorities have reached an agreement, with which it, resulting in some of the biggest changes in its 20-year history.

Under the fest's revised articles of association, the Busan mayor will no longer automatically serve as chairman of the BIFF organizing committee. It will be left to someone in the private sector as Suh previously announced in March. A general assembly is slated to take place around mid-May so that organizers could smooth out the details.

In the meantime, Kim Dong-ho, founder and honorary director of BIFF, will step in to fill in as fest director. The position had remained vacant, with Kang Soo-youn flying the fest solo ever since Mayor Suh Byung-soo announced in February that Lee Yong-kwan, a co-founder of BIFF, would not be re-appointed as fest director. Kim previously helmed BIFF from 1996 until 2010.

Busan authorities funds roughly half of the event's annual budget and of which the mayor has automatically served as fest chairman. Around September 2014, conflicts arose between BIFF and local authorities when Mayor Suh Byung-soo opposed the screening of a politically sensitive documentary The Truth Shall Not Sink With Sewol.

Busan authorities then ordered an unprecedented audit inspection and filed a lawsuit against fest organizers for appointing new members to the advisory board without the consent of the chairman.

"[BIFF founder and honorary director] Kim Dong-ho and other veteran members are still onboard and making sure things are running smoothly," Jay Jeon, director of BIFF's Asian Film Market and a founding member of the fest alongside Lee, previously told THR. "Though we are trying hard to work out details with Busan City, it remains unchanged that we both want to host a successful festival. I believe the filmmakers have made the boycott statement in hopes that the festival will prosper in the long run," he added.

The Handmaiden by South Korean director Park Chan-wook was pre-sold to 116 territories during the European Film Market (EFM), CJ Entertainment announced Thursday.

This marks the second-largest pre-sales deal for the company since Bong Joon Ho's Snowpiercer, which was picked up by a record 167 countries.

Director Park Chan Wook recently talked about his connection to the hot star Yoo Yeon Seok, which dates back to 10 years ago.

Park Chan Wook revealed that he has regrets when it comes to Yoo Yeon Seok during the “Old Boy” digital remastering release.

After watching his film again for the first time in ten years, Park Chan Wook commented, “I still can’t tell if that was a dream or if it was real.” He continued to talk about the behind-the-scenes stories of the movie.

Park Chan Wook said, “If I knew Yoo Yeon Seok would be this successful, I would have cared for him more and had some more close-up shots.” Yoo Yeon Seok is currently one of the hottest actors due to the drama “Reply 1994.”

The remake of Park Chan-wook’s Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance (which is no longer at Warner Brothers it seems) is gaining steam. Brian Tucker (Broken City) has been the writer on this for a while now and production companies Silver Reel, Lotus Entertainment, di Bonaventura Pictures and CJ Entertainment have partnered up to get this new version (in English, of course) off the ground. All this is happening out of the ongoing Cannes Film Festival.

Per Deadline, “Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing and Claudia Bluemhuber, Bill Johnson, Jim Seibel, Jacob Pechenik and Gero Bauknecht are executive producers. This is the first acquisition in Silver Reel and Lotus’ newly formed partnership, one that is focused on developing and acquiring commercial and high-caliber projects.”

The original film is about “two men who set out to avenge the deaths of their beloved women, only to discover that each killed the other’s lover and in the end only one can have his vengeance.”

The hunt is currently on for a director.
