Jang Ja-yeon's list
2009-03-24 01:45 pm
The list of men whom that Jang Ja-yeon was forced to “meet” is floating around the internet. Although the government has banned the list from being published on Korean media sites, we have gotten our grubby little hands on the list. From the list (and assuming it’s true), all we can say is that the poor girl had to meet men her father’s age (the oldest listed at 62) with the average age in their 50’s. And these men are higher ups at one of the biggest broadcasting companies and the largest sports newspapers in Korea.

until she’s well-known enough in industry by the decent people who don’t use her for sex, her social circle may stay limited to those who DO use her for sex. they can easily make her jobless for years by blacklisting her. sure she can over come that in several years by working her way back slowly, but actresses tend to be bothered by expiration dates more than men. (ask yourself why most K-blogs focus on young celebs/actors, not older ones who have survived for many years!)
not everyone has the social support (say an older actress/actor who can show her how to wiggle out of these unreasonable demands by company without hurting chances for future jobs), or street-smarts to deal with problems as they come — and it IS like swimming in your corner of the ocean, with nothing but sharks.
Amen.
Let's also not forget that not everyone is equipped with the balls to fight back.
If she let it happen without telling anyone until now, clearly she did not have the will to run away in the first place. She was scared.
This drove her to suicide, people. She didn't wholly choose this. She was pressured by men who were certainly hell of a lot more powerful than her. Let's see you try faring any better, deal with the very foundation of Korean entertainment while you're as easy to flick off as a speck of dust.
She's not stupid. She's a victim. And she certainly didn't like it... Would you?
