Fly to the Sky’s Hwanhee Wanted to Prove Something to Idols

Fly to the Sky’s Hwan Hee and Brian revealed the reason they decided to return after five long years.

Meeting with enews on June 9, Fly to the Sky shared thoughts on making a comeback and making it to the top once again.

When asked about the reason they decided to comeback, Hwan Hee answered, “There are so many idols in the K-pop world these days. I wanted to show them that there is a duet group called Fly to the Sky. A part of me also wanted to show them, ‘This is how you sing.’”

Fly to the Sky released Continuum on May 20, ranking number one on nine major music sites as well as on music programs with the title song You You You.

Brian said, “There were many difficulties but I was the happiest when I sang as Fly to the Sky. Many of my acquaintance would ask me, ‘Aren’t you guys getting back together?’ At first, I lightly said, ‘Should I?’ and that ended up bringing a good result.”

Hwan Hee continued, “When I was in the army, many of my colleagues told me, ‘Fly to the Sky sang many great songs.’ There were many fans waiting for us and I felt responsible too. I wanted to see different kinds of genres in order to make the K-pop world more diverse and abundant.”

He concluded, “But the beginning was very light. We were worried whether or not we can actually do it. I can’t believe what we’ve achieved already. We’re receiving so much more love than we anticipated. Thanks to that, I think we’ll be able to do better next time.”

SUJU’s Ryeowook Speaks on Negative Views on Idols Performing in Musicals

Super Junior’s Ryeowook has completely fallen for the charms of musicals. Taking on a new challenge, Ryeowook has been cast as the lead character ‘Ryu Soon Ho’ in musical Goddess is Watching.

It is not extraordinary for an idol to perform in musicals these days but Ryeowook’s newest challenge in the musical brings a new level of significance to the audience, the fans, as well as to Ryeowook himself. Idols normally knock down doors to musicals with popularity and fame as their weapon. The production company also cast idols for musicals held in grand theaters since they can bring in more fans.

But Goddess is Watching is different.  It′s a musical being performed in medium sized theatres, holding only about 600 audience members. Moreover, since the musical was first performed in 2013, it has never cast any other idols. It signifies a project that requires stable acting and concentration. And so when Ryeowook was cast in it, both anticipation and negative comments were inevitable.

Meeting with Newsen recently, Ryeowook honestly shared his humble thoughts on the mixed views on idols performing in musicals.

The first time you hear him speak, you might think he’s a part of the Korean diaspora in an English-speaking country. When asked if he lived abroad for a long time, he answered: “Ah, really? It might feel this way because I stammer a little when I speak. When it happens, if people who listen to me ask me if I’m back from the US, I tell them I’m living at Wangsimni.”

NU’EST Announces the Results of Their “NU’PAPA 14-day Record” Challenge

Earlier in the month, boy group NU’EST announced that they were taking a 14-day challenge, called “NU’PAPA 14-day Record.”  For the Youtube series, each member got to choose their own challenge and for 14 days, uploaded a status video onto the group’s official Youtube channel. On the final day of the challenge, today, NU’EST uploaded a final roundup, revealing the results of their challenge.

Member Baekho decided to diet during the 14 days and ended up failing! He said it was his fault, being unable to control what he eats, but Baekho also couldn’t help but blame the weight scale, saying there is something wrong with it.

JR decided to show fans how he does his rap making, which he successfully completed. To much happiness for fans, JR’s solo song will be included in NU’EST’s next album.

Minhyun, who wanted to act in a drama this year, decided to “donate” his voice to fans (such as narrating a book), which also acted as his pronunciation practice. This was also successfully completed.

Ren, because he likes fashion, decided to show his transformation, what kind of style he likes, and how he takes care of his looks. Unfortunately, fans won’t be able to see Ren’s transformation until NU’EST’s next album.

Aron challenged writing a love letter to fans in Korean as a way of practicing the language, and surprised many people with how good he was. Aron admits he still has trouble with spelling so he promises to study more by looking at NU’EST fancafe often.

A Pink to debut in Japan under Japanese company, J-ROCK

Sankei Sports recently reported that the girls will be debuting in Japan soon. The group signed a contract with J-ROCK which is the company that also manages T-ara and B.A.P in Japan.

An insider reported that A Pink will be holding their first solo showcase in Japan’s Stella Ball on August 4th. This showcase will allow the group to build up more fans in Japan which will then lead to their official debut later in fall. It is reported that A Pink is planning to adapt their Korean songs to Japanese versions to gain the interest of fans.

Sankei Sports reported, “Sexy girl groups conquer Korean music, but A Pink has widened the area of innocence. Their clear voices and innocent aura will give them many fans in Japan as well. They’re planning to translate their Korean songs into Japanese to appeal their best points.”

Psy to Present Special Performance to Cheer for Korean Soccer Team

Psy will be holding a special performance to show support for Korean national soccer team.

YG Entertainment told Newsen on June 16, “Psy will be holding a performance to show support for the Korean national team, which will be going against the Russian team on June 18 in Arena Patanal, Brazil.”

YG rep stated, “The performance will take place right before the game starts, in front of Coex in Gangnam.”

Having made his comeback on June 9 with song Hangover, the fans’ attention have been on whether or not they will get to see Psy’s performance of Hangover for the first time in Korea through the special performance.

Meanwhile, Psy revealed that he will be releasing a new single title song Daddy, following Hangover.

IU Joins KCON 2014 Lineup

IU is the latest K-Pop artist announced to join the KCON 2014 lineup. She joins CNBLUE, Girls’ Generation and BTS in this growing lineup.

Since there is two nights of concerts this year, we can expect many more artists to very announced soon.

KCON will be held on August 9-10 in downtown Los Angeles this year.
