There has been a transformation in the makeup of K-pop scene in recent months.
After nonstop idol-centric periods during which idol artists dominated music charts and thus filled the stage on music shows, the tide has turned as many solo artists have fought back.
As of May 3, there are six solo artists in the Top 10 Melon charts: Roy Kim, PSY, Younha, Jo Yong Pil, Lyn and K.Will. Other music charts are also showing similar rankings.
The well-balanced representation of different age groups is noteworthy. Spearheading the revival of the old is the 63-year-old Jo Yong Pil. PSY, Lyn and K.Will are in their thirties at the peak of their music careers, while Roy Kim and Younha are enjoying their twenties.
Other artists that have broken the top 10 are Vibe, Giggs and Ak Dong Musician.
As the one and only idol group positioned in the top 10, 4minute represented the idol groups who have been drowned out by the resurgence of solo artists. With “What’s Your Name?” 4minute came in at number three.
An associate form one of the major networks’ music shows commented, “The trend has shifted back again. Moving away from visual music to quality audio music, the fans are responding better to solo artists or duos that perform at a high level. The trend will continue for a while, it seems.”

When the “Our hyung and my dongsaeng” (T/N: music producers) hyungs let us listen to the song, I think all the members fell for the dreamy guitar sound. When I listened to the end of the song with its unique beats and continued change in the rhythm, I felt somewhat emo~tional. As if I watched a touching and emo~tional fantasy animation… Although music may feel different depending on the person listening to it or what mood they’re in that day or how the weather is, I felt a man’s heart who had to send his girlfriend to heaven first. Am I the only one who was too deep with it… ㅎ Since I wrote the rap lyrics with the thought of ‘what if my girlfriend went to heaven first?’, I wrote about how I would be envious of the moon for being able to see her who daily since she became a star… and also added in the actions of a foolish man who watches the stars even if he falls asleep, he would wake up and watch the stars again all night long in order to see her, since she became a star… Am I the only one who became too absorbed in this…. ㅎㅎ When I listen to ‘Starlight’s Song’, I think of the movie, ‘The Notebook’. It was a movie that deeply moved me, and I feel like the way this song makes a cooled down heart cry again is similar as the movie does. When I listen to this song, I fall into these feelings and thoughts, so I’m curious how all of you felt! A song where it’s really fascinating, yet a lot of thoughts come to me when I listen to it. While listening to the delicate vocals of the B1A4 members, you should listen to this at least once before you sleep. B1A4’s Baro strongly recommends it ^_^

Although Psy displayed a different persona, kicking chairs out from underneath ladies in his record-making “Gentleman” video, but he’s displayed that he really is a true gentleman in real life.
Green Day‘s Billie Joe Armstrong went on his Instagram and made a negative post with Psy’s photo that read, “This dude is the herpes of music. Once you think it’s gone, it comes back. #herpes #flareup #pleasegoaway”

The limited edition of first generation K-pop idol group SHINHWA’s new eleventh single album “THE CLASSIC” has sold out.
According to a press release by the group’s agency SHINHWA Company on Thursday, all 40,000 copies of the limited edition album released yesterday sold out through reservations in seconds.
“The limited edition contains new color and authenticity compared to the tenth album. As fans waited long for SHINHWA’s comeback, we intend to give them the best gift,” the agency explained in the statement.
The regular version of the eleventh album of the same title will be released on May 16.
