SHINee and B1A4 have been honored the ‘Artist of the Year’ as well as the ‘Rookie of the Year’ on Japan’s Tower Records!

On December 28th, Tower Records reported the results for the ‘K-Pop Lovers! Awards 2011‘, which combines netizen votes and album sales. In the artist of the year category was SHINee, who was followed by KARA in second and Super Junior in third.

The ‘Rookie of the Year’ category was topped by B1A4, who sold over 20,000 mini-albums as well as gaining the most netizen votes, followed by Boyfriend in second and Block B in third.

B1A4′s Japanese label, Pony Canyon, commented, “It’s a meaningful award in that it’s a combination of votes by consumers of Tower Records.”

SNSD Voted "Singer of The Year" by Every Age Group

SNSD was voted singer of the year for the third consecutive time by every age group, according to the Korean Gallup poll.

The Korean Gallup poll asked a group of 3,401 people, male and female aged between 13 and 59, to pick three singers who stood out the most in 2011. Overall, 26.1% of the answers was SNSD. They topped individual age groups with 30% of teenagers, 29.2% of people in their 20s, 29.5% in 30s, 25.2% in 40s and finally 18.2% in 50s.

For other singers the poll showed different results according to age groups. Male idol groups such as Big Bang, BEAST and Infinite were voted considerably more by teenagers while people in their 30s and 40s voted singers from the MBC variety show "I Am A Singer", like Kim Bum Soo, Lim Jae Bum and Park Jung Hyun.

While SNSD has been voted as the best singers since 2009, their latest single "The Boys" was ranked number three for the most popular song of this year. The first spot was held by IU's "Good Day."

Also from the The Korean Gallup poll, the best rookies of the year were voted as Infinite and Dal Shabet.

IU Brings in More Munniez Than Our Faves. Yep. ALL OUR FAVES

Surprising news has recently emerged regarding the well-loved singer IU, who is reported to have earnings over $10 million USD in the year of 2011. This startling salary has surpassed various idols prominent in the K-Pop scene, especially SNSD, Wonder Girls, and KARA. IU’s yearly earnings has confirmed her place as both number one in successful comeback and in the highest revenue this year.

On December 25, Gaon music charts placed IU’s “Last Fantasy” album, which debuted on November 29, as number one on their album rankings. Also, IU’s title song “You and I” placed at the very top on Gaon’s top ten singles chart in December, which was practically undefeatable through the weeks of November 27 to December 17. All of IU’s songs on her “Last Fantasy” album have placed within the top 20 on Gaon’s top 100 song list.

IU is already known to have recorded $6 million USD in record sales last quarter, but the newly revealed figure of $10 million USD annually has stunned a lot of people. IU’s last album, “Real,” which debuted on December 9 2010, had similar music chart dominance as “Last Fantasy” and her title song for that album was “A Good Day.” This single gained instant popularity due to IU’s amazing ability to reach three stages of consecutive high notes, an attempt clearly heard in the middle of the song, and this feature along with the song’s cute lyrics gained popularity not only amongst the youth but the middle-aged audience as well.

“A Good Day” remained strong from the day of its release to February of 2011, in which the song was always found in the top ten of the nation’s top music ranking charts. Moving on from IU’s album songs, her Original Sound Tracks (O.S.T.) attempts were quite successful as well, with her single “Someday” appearing on “Dream High” and “Only I Didn’t Know” being the main song of “Real Plus.” These two songs were well known in the months of January and February this year and also reached high on Gaon charts, even reaching number one for both O.S.T.’s.

Continuing her strong efforts, IU released two singles in May and June. Firstly, her “Hold My Hand” O.S.T. for the highly popular drama “The Greatest Love” ranked seventh on Gaon’s top-ten singles list from May 22 but by May 28 rose to second place. Secondly in June, IU collaborated with figure skater Kim Yuna to release “Ice Flower” which also followed in IU’s successful O.S.T. footsteps and ranked high as well. Undoubtedly, IU’s skills are backed up with expertise and predictable success in all her songs and albums. This characteristic of the singer’s has carried on through to her most recent album “Last Fantasy.”

Now combining her record sales success, radio broadcastings, and commercial castings, the approximate revenue figure recorded up to this point is easily over the $10 million USD mark. Going back to her “Last Fantasy” album, IU has reached her success due to help from various well-known musicians and song writers that made the songs as magical as they are. However, IU is only nineteen, and with high anticipation people will be awaiting what the incredibly talented singer along with her equally skilled music team will produce next. The possibilities are never-ending, and it seems IU’s salary is equally infinite.

Dara reminds fans to attend 2NE1′s pre-recording for ‘SBS Gayo Daejun’

On December 28th, 2NE1‘s Dara, reminded fans about 2NE1′s pre-recording for SBS Gayo Daejun.

She wrote, “What’s up?!? ^_^ You know that tomorrow is SBS Gayo Daejun, right?!? We are even pre-recording it tomorrow morning! It will be at 9am at KINTEX.. Because it’s cold and so early, I don’t know if Blackjacks will be able to make it.. ㅠ.ㅠ But it will be the first time in a while that we’ll be able to meet closely, so I’m looking forward to it! It will be a special time between 2NE1 and Blackjacks in a long while!..”

With the picture, Dara posted a picture of herself with a written message reminding fans. She’s pointing to a sign that reads, “Blackjacks~ come on!” with the message below stating, “December 29, Ilsan KINTEX, 9am” and “P.S. It’s been a while since we’ve done a pre-recording, so I’m anticipating!”

JYJ holds a special fan party with ‘NII’

Earlier this month, JYJ held a special fan party at the Lotte Gimpo Airport with their fans!

Their endorsement brand ‘NII‘ was at the scene to capture moments of the boys interacting with their 500 fans. Not only did they personally wrap the scarves around the fans, but also cut celebratory cakes with them to express their gratitude.

Various special events were also set up to help the fans get closer with the boys: “Junsu‘s birthday,” “Lucky autograph,” “Curious about that,” “Polaroid photo filming,” and “Photozone event.”

JYJ commented, “We didn’t have that many opportunities to meet with our Korean fans because of our European tour at the end of 2011. It was great seeing them all now. In the New Year, we’ll be pursuing individual activities before returning with an improved image through our new album.”

Guys, there's such a great airport in Paris, we should meet there. There's even two airport so we could meet two times.

There’s no stopping T-ara this year, as right till the very last day of 2011, they’ll be working hard on the various projects.

Despite their busy schedule preparing for their Japanese concert, drama filmings, and year-end ceremonies, the girls still took time off to practice for their musical, ‘Roly Poly‘.

Choreographer Kang Ok Soon stayed with the girls at their rehearsal room until late into the night, thoroughly preparing them and the staff for a successful show.

Bugs, a Korean music site, has compiled the best music of 2011. Bugs opened voting for their 2011 Bugs Music Awards on December 8th. For two weeks, until December 22nd, fans were able to vote once a day for the song or artist they thought was this year's best in twelve different categories.

Some of the categories included the Netizen's Popularity Award, Best Newcomer Award, Best Solo Artist Award, Best Male Group, Best Male Group, Ballad of the Year, O.S.T. of the Year, Rock Track of the Year, and more! There was even a category for Best Foreign Musicians.

On December 28th, Bugs released the results and winners of the 2011 Bugs Music Awards. Check out the top three artists in each category, below!

It's the end of the year and many lists of the year's past releases are being posted everywhere. In the past months, Koreaboo has been providing its readers with a look at the Korean rock scene by giving them five recommendations each time and this month won't be a different, as we have once again compiled a list of interesting bands for you to check out.

Just as with the previous editorials (#1, #2, #3 and #4), I've compiled a list of five different rock bands who have been working together for years.

This month's line-up consists of rockers Haze who have recently released their first music video through the "Ten" OST, as well as rookie band 4Hz, who had their first mini album released just last month. Popular psychedelic rock band Guckkasten, together with Soundwash and the well-known Nemesis end the list for this month's article.

B1A4 wins Wave K Super Rookie 2012 Award

B1A4 was honored on the December 28th recording of music show WaveK as the Super Rookie of 2012. Voting for the winner was between December 6 and the 26th. The 8 nominated groups were B1A4, LEDApple, MyName, MIB, C-Real, Rania, Wind Hold Venus, and Brave Girls. The recording was broadcast live on Korea.com and the winner was revealed. The 2 part special will be broadcast on Arirangtv in January.

Known for their on and off relationship on SBS’s Running Man, Gary and Song Ji Hyo have become a popular couple that many fans want to see together. Photoshopped images of the couple surfaced a few months back, and one wedding photo in particular became a big hit.

On December 27th, Gary tweeted the photo above and wrote, “When Suk Jin Hyung is feeling down and wants to laugh, he said to send him this photo… our reality is different… so let’s laugh… hahaha… Running Man’s last filming [of the year] was good good!! Thank you for loving Running Man!!”

The Photoshopped image revealed Gary and Song Ji Hyo dressed in wedding outfits, complete with the words, “The Wedding coming from Song Ji Hyo and Kang Gary..When life is hard on you love love..love love don’t even forget what love means.”

Idol group JYJ triumphed over singer / actor Lee Seung Gi as well as girl group SNSD to be crowned the nation’s top idol star.

From December 8th to the 28th, KBS held a ‘2011 Best Icon Award‘ poll on their website and JYJ secured the #1 spot for ‘Best Idol Star’.

JYJ with 58,357 votes beat out Lee Seung Gi who had 53,560 votes to come out on top. JYJ who released their first special full-length Korean album ‘In Heaven‘ this year have proven that they are capable and talented musicians.

Behind JYJ were not only Lee Seung Gi, but also Park Si Hoo, Kim Hyun Joong, SNSD, and more.

Netizens favorite corner on ‘Gag Concert‘ proved to be ‘The Loving Man Who Makes Ambiguous Decisions’ which came in at #1, and actor Shin Ha Kyun of KBS 2TV‘s ‘Brain‘ seized the #1 spot for ‘Best Cast Role’.

Fans also picked ‘Youth Choir’ over ‘Ramen Expert’ as their favorite mission on ‘Happy Sunday – A Man’s Right‘.

MBLAQ to reveal "Nakseo" prior to new mini album release

J.Tune Camp revealed some interesting news earlier today by revealing that MBLAQ will be releasing a new song prior to the release of their next mini album in January.

"Nakseo", which can be translated into graffiti, scribble or doodle; is set to be revealed at midnight KST between January 2nd and 3rd.

J.Tune Camp will be revealing the first teaser for the group's upcoming comeback through this release. It will be revealed through the company's official YouTube account as well as MBLAQ's website.

Pledis Boys to make their official debut on SBS Gayo Daejun

7-member boy group Pledis Boys will finally be making their stage debut.

The Pledis Boys will be performing at the 2011 SBS Gayo Daejun which will take place at KINTEX in Ilsan December 29th.

The members have displayed a more adorable image through the ‘Happy Pledis‘ project with their labelmates After School, however for their debut stage, the boys will be putting on a powerful and intense performance. The Pledis Boys will also be doing the shuffle dance with their seniors.

The competition between the idol stars for 2012 has already caught fire, but the members remarked, “We are pouring out everything we have into recording our album and preparing for our promotions. We will be approaching our fans with music that’s express our unique Pledis Boys personality, and we hope that you guys will continue to love and support us.”

An old photo of ‘Innocent HyunA’ grabs attention

An old photo of 4minute‘s HyunA has gone viral in Korea, attracting the attention of fans and netizens alike.

On December 27th, a photo of HyunA from 2007 was uploaded onto an online community board, when the idol was training to become a Wonder Girls member.

The photos were taken from MBC‘s ‘Manwon Happiness‘, where HyunA featured as a guest. HyunA’s innocent image, which is strikingly different than her sexy one today, immediately became a sensation.

Netizens commented, “She looks more beautiful here with that innocence~“, “She looks so pretty and innocent here, why is she trying to become more sexy…“, and “Was this taken when she was in middle school? Her hair is so short.”

For those unfamiliar with HyunA’s background, the idol was forced to leave the Wonder Girls due to health issues.
