Cable channel tvN was one of the first cable channels to really step up its original drama programming to compete with the Big 3 broadcasters, and now it’s bringing the live sketch comedy format to Korea with Saturday Night Live Korea. Hosting the inaugural program tomorrow night (December 3) will be actor Kim Joo-hyuk (Fighting Spirit, Bang-ja Chronicles), featured in these promo stills, along with hip-hop artists Dynamic Duo as the musical guests.

It’s not a mere rip-off of the concept, but an actual extension of the SNL brand. I’m anticipating that it’ll be quite similar to the long-running American fixture, with its fixed cast, live broadcast, and format — celebrity host, opening monologue, sketches, and musical performers. Even the styling of the celebrity guest promos here closely resembles the stills in the American show.

A Pink is my favourite rookie group now, after their win at MAMA. The maknae, Ha Young, is my favourite member btw. Still can't believe she's a 96-er.

Probing political chicanery reminiscent of some banana republic nation (or perhaps the state of Florida circa 2000) South Korean authorities are investigating a case of alleged election fraud that appears to be designed to keep a ruling-party candidate in office.

Police say that an aide to a lawmaker for the nation's Grand National Party organized a widespread cyber attack to confuse voters trying to get to the polls on election day in late October.

The aide, who is in custody, reportedly hired three Internet technology workers to cause computer breakdowns on a website designed to help voters find their polling stations.

Last month, Seoul residents elected a new mayor in a race that analysts called a crucial run-up to next year's presidential elections. Analysts predicted that low turnout would be an advantage to the ruling party's candidate.

South Korea will dispatch a state prosecutor to Australia to help curb a boom in prostitution by Korean women there and investigate claims of human trafficking, a report said on Friday.

The move forms part of a crackdown in which Seoul will collaborate with Australian authorities to try to break trafficking rings and bring women working as prostitutes home, the Yonhap news agency said.

'The government position is that we must seize this opportunity to eradicate the widespread prostitution by Korean women in Australia,' an unnamed senior foreign ministry official was quoted as saying.

Representatives from government agencies including the foreign ministry and justice ministry agreed last week to station a state prosecutor at the South Korean consulate general in Sydney, the report said.
