Wonder Girls release an official comeback date!
News of the Wonder Girls‘ comeback has been out for months now, but until now there has been no official date. Today, all that has changed as the girls have finally just confirmed an official comeback date!

Digital music distributors revealed, “The Wonder Girls’ second official album will be available starting November 7th.”

The confirmation has music fans wondering how they’ll fare against SNSD, who recently made their comeback with their third album, ‘The Boys‘. They’ve already begun their performances, which leaves roughly three weeks of room between the two comebacks. Fortunately, it’s enough time to see some friendly competition between the two groups. (gawd who cares...)

The Wonder Girls will only be promoting for a month, however, before they prepare for their Asian promotion tour in December. The girls will also be returning to the States in time for the release of their movie, ‘The Wonder Girls at the Apollo‘.

Jonte choreographs Wonder Girls’ new song

Girl group Wonder Girls will be back soon.

Choreographer Jonte, who created dance moves for worldwide divas, including Beyoncé, Amuro Namie, Lady GaGa, and more, created dance moves for Wonder Girls’ new song as well.

A spokesperson for Wonder Girls said, “Wonder Girls will be trained by Jonte. Since Jonte is international choreographer, Wonder Girls’ performance will be more powerful.”

Jonte became popular in Korea by giving unique performance. He appeared on a fashion show in Seoul and gave an opening performance on the 18th.

Wonder Girls will release their second full length album on November 7. Then they will make their onstage comeback through a music program during the second week of November.

Wonder Girls will be active in Korea in November and then will go abroad in December. Then they will go to the United States in the first half of the next year to promote their movie Wonder Girls at the Apollo.

Ever since her dazzling rendition of early '90s mega hit "What's Up" by 4 Non Blondes, fans have been begging for Gayoon to go that musical route. Thanks to some drama called Poseidon, hordes of fans are now able to listen to chic and dapper city girl Heo Gayoon transformed into an acoustic guitar wielding songstress.

Fans have expressed hopes for Gayoon to go on to become the Sheryl Crow of Gangnam someday.

Much like last year, thus far in 2011, the Korean music industry has been dominated by idols. With top idol groups promoting overseas as part of the Hallyu wave, their influence has spread beyond Asia into Europe and South America as well.

With that said, the “report cards” (aka the album and digital sales) of boy groups and girl groups for this year were compared.


–> Idol groups’ impact on the music industry

According to the results of Gaon Chart this year (from January 2nd to October 1st), idols have placed 51 songs out of the top 100 songs on the digital chart.

The idols that make up the top ranks include Hallyu’s top idol groups: T-ara, 2NE1, Big Bang, f(x), CNBLUE, B2ST, miss A, SECRET, SISTAR, etc.

When the album chart was reviewed, it was clear that idols had a stronger influence on album sales than in digital sales. For the album charts from the same period, idol groups had 69 albums out of the top 100, and the entire top 10 (from 1st to 10th) were all albums belonging to idol groups.


–> Girl groups dominate online sales (mp3), while boy groups dominate offline sales (CD)

Girl groups clearly dominated the digital charts. Out of the 51 idol group songs in the top 100, 31 (61%) of those were by girl groups.

In contrast, boy groups had a strong hold over the offline or physical album sales this year. The top 10 album sales for this year (with the exception of KARA at 8th place) were all from boy groups. Super Junior, TVXQ, and JYJ comprised of the the top 3 album sales this year.

Choi Kang Ho, director of the Music Contents Industry Association (which runs Gaon Chart) stated, “For offline or album sales, the majority of the consumers are made up of loyal fans of idol groups rather than regular music fans… Boy groups, who have more intimate fans compared to girl groups, have been showing high album sales.”

Former U-KISS member, Alexander, to hold solo event in Tokyo

Alexander, a former member of U-KISS, will be making a comeback to the stage as a solo artist!

The pop star will be making his solo debut on December 9th through the ‘Alexander Showcase Live 2011‘ concert at the Akasaka Blitz in Tokyo. This will be his first stage since U-KISS’s December concert a year ago.

A source close to Alexander revealed to Star News on October 24th that, “Alexander recently found a new agency and has been preparing his activities as a solo artist… He’ll show you a much more mature side than when he used to be a part of U-KISS.”

Alexander himself wrote a message to his fans through the event site on the 22nd, which read, “I’m finally starting my activities as a solo artist… Let’s meet at the December showcase.”

The idol, who is fluent in 7 languages in addition to being a skilled vocalist and a dancer, left U-KISS back in February of this year.

Daesung's "What's Up" drama to air in December!

Song Jina's drama, What's Up, featuring Big Bang Daesung has been picked up by new cable channel, MBN.

MBN, set to premiere in December, has announced some of the shows that will be part of its program line-up. So far, they have confirmed the sitcoms, Vampire Idol, Bolder by the Day and You Drive Me Crazy.

Musical drama, What's Up, has also been added to their weekend line-up with 18 episodes (60 minutes each). The drama will air in late December or at the beginning of next year. A representative of the production crew of What’s Up revealed, “The drama is all ready and was decided to air on MBN. However, we’re not sure exactly when it will be released.”

What’s Up is a campus drama set in a university musical department. The drama stars Im Joo-hwan, Daesung, Im Joo-eun, Jeon Hye-jin, Lee Hyuk-soo, and Jo Jung-seok.
