Ahead of their official comeback, Nine Muses have teased fans with a taste of their concept through a new photoshoot with ‘MAXIM‘ magazine!

During the photoshoot, the girls were interviewed about their upcoming album release, to which they revealed, “It’s a secret so we can’t reveal much, but we’re planning to win with our music this time. You can anticipate an impressive stage during our comeback promotions.”

Since the girls are known for being ‘model idols’, they pulled off the photoshoot’s concept of marionettes to a T by acting as ‘living dolls’. Staff didn’t have much to direct, as the girls led themselves in pulling off their perfect poses. You can check out the rest in the August edition of ‘MAXIM’.

Yuko Ishii, a 53-year-old factory worker in central Japan, used to feel reluctant about buying products made in neighboring South Korea. That changed after she became a fan of pop stars such as boy band TVXQ.

“I used to rule out Korean products, but now I have no problem with them,” said Ishii, whose purchases include a washer made by LG Electronics Inc. “If my favorite star was advertising a South Korean TV, I would definitely buy it. I want to feel closer to them by buying the same products they use.”

Shin Dong Wook discharged from military due to rare illness

As of this month, actor Shin Dong-wook (Soulmate, Wish Upon a Star) was just over halfway through his two years of mandatory army duty, but has been discharged from service due to a condition he has recently been diagnosed with, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), which caused a sudden onset of intense pain.

Regarding the diesase, Wikipedia sez: “Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a chronic progressive disease characterized by severe pain, swelling and changes in the skin. Though treatment is often unsatisfactory, early multimodal therapy can cause dramatic improvement or remission of the syndrome in some patients. The cause of this syndrome is currently unknown. Precipitating factors include injury and surgery, although there are documented cases that have no demonstrable injury to the original site.”

According to a rep from the actor’s side, he is currently resting after receiving his discharge on July 13. While they expect that the disease won’t be a great hindrance in daily life, the pain caused by the illness can be severe, and can arise out of the blue. They reportedly didn’t want to make a big deal of the discharge, as they are well aware of the sensitive climate with regard to draft issues. (Basically, it’s always a sensitive climate when we’re talking about army service.)

Shin enlisted in July 2010 and is now receiving medical treatment for his CRPS. Eeeep! I love Shin Dong-wook (being affiliated with the wonderful Soulmate earns you a lot of love, in my book) and was looking forward to his return to civilian life, but not via lots and lots of debilitating pain. Hope he feels better soon.

Tagore fired Korean imagination 81 years ago

An elevating poem penned by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore in 1929 that presaged Korea as a ''Lamp of the East'' has now, 81 years later, become a cornerstone to deepen India-Korea relationship.The epigrammatic verse that Tagore wrote, capturing Korea’s glorious past and signaling a bright future by eulogising it as a “lamp waiting to be lighted once again for the illumination of the East,” has fired the imagination of Korea which later emerged as one of the world’s largest techno-economies.

While there is already a Tagore Society in Korea with some of Tagore’s famous works, including the Nobel winning “Gitanjali” having been translated into Korean by a woman writer Kim Yang-Shik, the Republic of Korea (RoK) government came up with a unique gesture to immortalise Gurudev.

Coinciding with the 150th birth anniversary of Tagore this year, the RoK has recently offered a place in Seoul’s cultural heart of Daehangro, to install a bronze bust of the poet.

FYI, Tagore is the first Asian Nobel laureate and considered a cultural asset in India.

f(x) Victoria Song pre-debut Beijing Dance Academy performance

This video of f(x)'s Victoria performing as a Beijing Dance Academy dancer recently emerged on the internet. In it, we can see Victoria displaying a more distinct and folk style through a modern dance act, very different from her present work as a member of f(x).

Before being cast by SM Entertainment and becoming part of girl group f(x), Victoria (Song Qian) was part of Beijing Dance Academy where she learned all sorts of dance including ballet, traditional Chinese dance and tumbling. The Beijing Dance Academy, also known as Beijing Dance Institute, is the only institution of higher education in dance in China. Notable alumni include famous actress Zhang Ziyi, and former member of the South Korean boy band Super Junior Han Geng.

Super Junior reveals Siwon’s teaser photo!

Super Junior will be making a comeback after a year and two months!

The comeback date for their 5th album is set for August 3rd and individual teaser images of the members will be released sequentially from the 20th. Out of the members, SM has so far revealed Eunhyuk, Donghae, Leeteuk, Shindong, Kyuhyun, Sungmin, Ryeowook, and Yesung’s new looks.

Following up, the company released Siwon’s radical new style today, and fans will definitely feel their jaws drop over this new look.

The members have each poured their own unique colors into the upcoming album, and fans will soon be able to experience their upgraded performances.

Super Junior stated, “As much as the fans have waited, the members have waited a long time for this 5th album. With our new music and performances, we want to communicate with fans all over the world. Please wait for our comeback.”

There’s only a few days to go until 2NE1 releases their new song, “Ugly“, in conjunction with their second mini-album, but fans are dying for a hint of their new sound.

Their wish was granted through the latest episode of ‘2NE1tv‘, where a short clip of the song was played during the credits reel. Fans were able to hear a short snippet of the main chorus, which goes, “I wanna be pretty // I wanna be pretty // Don’t lie to my face, telling me I’m pretty // I think I’m ugly and nobody wants to love me // Just like her, I wanna be pretty // I wanna be pretty // Don’t lie to my face ’cause I know I’m ugly…”

GP Basic considers studying and debuting abroad in America

GP Basic has revealed that they’re considering studying abroad in America in response to the growing love they’re receiving overseas.

The group debuted as one of the youngest idol groups in the industry, which earned them some criticism early on. Currently, the members are in elementary school and junior high school.

Representatives of their agency revealed, “International fans have a completely different response to Koreans from what we’ve seen through YouTube and their performances overseas. They successfully completed their Japanese showcase back in May and have been receiving endless love calls from major Japanese record labels. Alongside with their Japanese debut, many are suggesting that the girls study abroad.”

They continued, “We’re already in contact with record labels in America. They believe that the girls have potential for growth, and one record label wants the girls to study overseas. Should we accept, there’s a high possibility that the girls will be heading to the states next year.”

This Is A Nugu-HITT Interview

The idol industry is currently undergoing some changes, and no longer will pretty looks alone get you very far.  Older idol groups are in the midst of evolving into ‘artist groups’ while new idol group debuts all boast talents and skill sets that prove they’re ready from the get-go.

Dozens of such teams debut per month, and amongst one of them is HITT, a six-member a cappella boyband that has put their vocal talent at the forefront of their strengths.

Sitting down for an interview with E-Daily, HITT explained, “Times are changing. Being vocally talented has become the norm, and no longer are performance styles and visuals the only matter of importance for idols. They say that singers live up to their names, so we want to become singers that are a ‘hit’. We have to live up to that name.”

Their name, unfortunately, isn’t much help for new fans. Searching ‘HITT’ on portal sites will bring up results like the 2007 MBC drama ‘Hit‘ or the season’s ‘hottest hit items’.
 

With a laugh, leader Hayong said, “We’re still rookies so it’s alright. We trust that the results will one day be filled with information regarding us. When you search HITT in English, we get a lot of supportive comments from international fans. We already have fansites in not only Asia, but Europe and the States as well. All that’s left is Africa, haha.”

The image was accidentally revealed through SM Entertainment’s website recently, but before they could take it back, netizens were already on the move to share this hot new teaser. As expected, “Heenim” released a shot that’s as fierce as they come, a perfect final image for this exciting cycle of teasers.

Super Junior will be releasing their new song, “Mr. Simple“, on August 2nd before they drop their full album on the 3rd.

YG Entertainment to debut an “SNSD-like” group next year

YG Entertainment has made an announcement that’s gaining major public interest! They’ve announced that they are currently in the works of putting together a charming and talented girl group; one that will be like SNSD, but with some YG flair.

During his recent interview with StarIn, Yang Hyun Suk stated, “We have plans to debut new artists before the third quarter of next year.” He added that of those new artists, one will be “an attractive and talented girl group like SNSD, but with some YG flavor.”
YG Entertainment is home to major artists like Big Bang and 2NE1, and they’ve established themselves as one of Korea’s major entertainment labels. Before he went on to talk about his new girl group, Yang Hyun Suk revealed his process on how he chose which trainees to debut.

“When it comes to selecting the members, the ones who performed the best looked the most appealing, that’s all! (laughs)”. He continued, ”I think these days, there are a lot of young people who are extremely talented, and are also very attractive. …It took five years before Big Bang was able to make their first debut, but because these kids are so talented these days, and since all the studios have state-of-the-art technology, I believe it’ll be possible to produce a new group within two years.”

YG Entertainment currently hosts about 30 trainees, and he plans on debuting a few rookie groups towards mid-year 2012, one of which being the ‘YG SNSD’.

He assures, however, that the new groups will be different from anything YG has ever done, and that their style will not be anything like that of Big Bang’s or 2NE1’s.

He continued, “I like to try out new things that others have yet to, and if you take a look at all the groups that YG has produced (such as Big Mama, Gummy, Se7en, Big Bang, or 2Ne1), all of their styles are unique. It’ll be no different for these new artists.”

Yang Hyun Suk was at one point one of the members of the legendary “Seo Taiji & Boys“. When asked if he missed being on stage, he replied, “I actually don’t miss it… I enjoy seeing our groups on stage more and working behind the scenes to make the stage possible for them. This is more me.”

YG smiled contently as he ended, “I love each of our YG groups; they’re like my own children. Everyday I ponder upon how I can “raise” them better and how I can create the next best idol group… it’s fun.”

Before we knew it, it was already the fourth interview with them. To think that the bright and cheerful boys give off a mysterious manly scent now… It’s not really drastic or anything, but you still couldn’t erase that fierce feeling from them, Infinite.
INFINITE <OVER THE TOP>
After a year since their debut of June 9th, 2010, Infinite released their official album, ‘OVER THE TOP’.
“It seemed like we were going by too fast, and we wondered if we were acting too hasty but we practiced and worked hard ten times the amount that we have been showing so far to show a better side of ourselves and we’re confident!”
This album sounds similar yet different from the songs Infinite has been showing till now. Hoya and Dongwoo were in charge of the rap making for this album as well, and everyone’s own parts were longer and more mature. From Sunggyu and Woohyun’s solo songs to Hoya and Dongwoo’s hip-hop duet song. Their choreography was always a hot topic and they showed confidence by saying you can see a more fierce side to them as they added break dancing moves. Infinite, who has opened a different prospect. Their climb to the top of the summit continues.

Happy "Fly to the Sky Day" in San Francisco!

Today is a very special day for fans of Fly to the Sky, Hwanhee, and Brian Joo!

Three years ago on this very day, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom declared July 27th "Fly to the Sky Day" to honor the duo for promoting relationships and economic development between South Korea and the County of San Francisco through music.

The proclamation also recognizes the ingenuity, creativity, and many musical accomplishments of Brian and Hwanhee, which include creating their own music, continuously topping music charts, and receiving the prestigious Bonsang Award at the 2003 and 2006 Golden Disk Awards.

Fly to the Sky holds a tie to San Francisco as they filmed their 2002 hit track "Sea of Love" in front of the famous Golden Gate Bridge and Palace of Fine Arts. Concerning the greater Bay Area, the duo also held at concert at the Chabot College Performing Arts Center in Hayward, a city on the East Bay on July 27th, 2008. Also, Brian Joo recently held a performance at San Francisco's Club NV last month.

In the meantime, the two men have continued on with their solo music careers. Hwanhee has just released a teaser for his upcoming album which will drop on July 29th. Brian recently held a showcase in Shanghai on July 23rd, and is focusing on practicing for his upcoming musical "RENT."
