According to South Korean news site Sports Chosun (via Soompi) actress Bae Doona (The Host) is in talks to join Cloud Atlas, the adaptation of David Mitchell’s novel which will be co-directed by The Wachowskis (The Matrix) and Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run).

The site says “Bae Doo Na had meetings with Hollywood producers recently, and they are believed to have finalized on her casting”. The actress is said to be playing the role of Sonmi~451, a character featured in the 5th tale of David Mitchell’s novel:

Filming is expected to take place later this year in Berlin, and Warner Bros. are eyeing an October 2012 release.

Homme’s Changmin and Lee Hyun are cracking up fans with a silly sel-ca they recently snapped together.

On July 19th, Changmin tweeted,

“The hardest live performance I’ve done on broadcast yet. Man should laugh. I can’t laugh.“

In the picture, Changmin and Lee Hyun are found with their mouths wide open as if they were screaming at the top of their lungs.

On the last album you collaborated with Trey Songz, Fabolous, andLil Wayne. Any collaborations this time around?
I did a Korean version of “Outside Your Body” [her current single]with Drunken Tiger‘s (Korean/American hip-hop group) member, [Tiger] JK and his wife (Tasha Reid). Those are my collaborations. JK is like the Korean Jay-Z. She’s (Tasha) also a rapper.They’re both amazing. I’m doing a record or two for Tasha’s upcoming album. I haven’t done it yet, and she’s probably going to kill me because I’ve been running around doing so much.

Her new album is scheduled for release in Summer 2012.

A group of celebrities have pledged not to appear on MBC in protest of the broadcaster’s decision to ban entertainers who engage in social activism from appearing on its programs.

Concert director and producer Tak Hyun-min said Monday that he and 12 others will not appear on MBC shows.

The statement came after the broadcaster banned a planned regular appearance on a radio program by actress Kim Yoh-jin, who has adamantly expressed opinions on socially sensitive issues, by blacklisting her.

“The blacklist is designed to censor people’s opinions. MBC officials said they devised the rule to maintain political neutrality, but actually it aims to oust people they don’t like,” Tak said.

The lecturer at Sungkonghoe and Hanyang universities presented a “three-steps, one ‘f-word gesture’” performance, parodying the Buddhist “three-steps, one-kowtow” practice, in front of the MBC building in central Seoul.

He announced a list of celebrities who joined his move, including popular novelist Gong Ji-young, Seoul National University professor Cho Kuk, gay film director Kim Jho Gwang-soo, culture critic Kim Gyu-hang and film director Yeo Gyun-dong.

“If more people join me, I’ll announce their names every Monday through Twitter,” Tak said.

Singer/rapper Yoon Mi Rae has been appointed be the female judge of Mnet’s upcoming “Superstar K3″ series.

Succeeding Lee Hyori and Uhm Jung Hwa of seasons one and two respectively, Yoon Mi Rae will begin her role as a fixed judge alongside Lee Seung Chul and Yoon Jong Shin in August during the fourth preliminary rounds.

Mnet stated, “The concept of “Superstar K3″ is still what we announced at the beginning of the year – ‘diversity’. With that being said, we focused heavily on choosing a musician who would harmonize well with the other judges and evaluate the contestants on a diverse level.”

“Yoon Mi Rae is a musician who works in a distinctly different genre, compared to Lee Seung Chul and Yoon Jong Shin. She’s acknowledged for her vocal talents, but we also feel that her stage ownership and ability to perform are both unique and one of the best. The previous judging panels from seasons one and two gave confidence to the producers with their accurate and meticulous judging. As a musician who is both a mother of a child and the wife of a top star, we invited her to become a judge, as we believe she is an artist who has the capability to bring together all audition participants.”

Yoon Mi Rae’s agency expressed, “Yoon Mi Rae underwent a poster photoshoot with Lee Seung Chul and Yoon Jong Shin on the 18th. She did a lot of worrying, but she said she had made up her decision after traveling to China and America for the preliminary rounds. Most importantly, she said she has confidence in Lee Seung Chul and Yoon Jong Shin, as they’ve been doing so well thus far.”

“Rather than looking out for special techniques like the other two judges, Yoon Mi Rae will be judging according to the contestant’s passion, sentiments, and their ability to bring out their own unique colors.”

The first broadcast of “Superstar K3″ will take place on August 12th.

[ Jihyun cast in drama 'A Thousand Kisses' ]

4minute's Nam Jihyun will challenge acting once again.

Jihyun was cast in MBC's new weekend drama 'A Thousand Kisses' set to be aired starting from mid August. After her appearance in SBS's 'It's Okay, Daddy's Daughter' at the end of last year, her featuring in 'A Thousand Kisses' will mark her second acting role in a drama.

Nam Jihyun will act as the lead character Jang Woojin's (played by actor Ryujin) younger sister, Jang Sooah.

As a bouncy and cheerful girl that will brighten the mood of an uneasy household, her character is likely to find favor in the audience's eyes. A representative of the production shared his opinions and predictions "During 'It's Okay, Daddy's Daughter', Nam Jihyun's decent acting earned a passing mark, but it was a shame that she got little exposure. This time, as the drama will have 50 episodes, she will surely get to show her acting to her fans".

'A Thousand Kisses' will follow 'Sparkling' as MBC's new weekend drama. Seo Yeonghee, Ji Hyunwoo, Kim Soeun and Ryujin were cast as its lead characters.

Idol group INFINITE finally commenced their full-fledged Japanese advancement on July 19th, beginning with their first showcase in Osaka.

Known to be the ‘Formation Dancing Terminators‘, the boys left their spectators in awe with their knife-sharp choreography. INFINITE performed a total of ten songs throughout their showcase.

Not only did they exhibit their powerful, charismatic sides on stage, but they also showed their usual cute and friendly personalities. INFINITE demonstrated to their Japanese fans they are fully capable of being the next generation’s leaders of the Hallyu wave through their fine-tuned music, choreography, outfits and stage composition.

All seven members expressed great enthusiasm in their answers during the showcase’s Q&A session to make it as fun as possible for their fans, which impressed even the Japanese staff.

INFINTE also completed another sold-out showcase on the 19th at the Tokyo ZEPP, where they showed an even more upgraded stage to complement the larger crowd.

Fans expressed, “They’re a jackpot even in Japan!”, “This is very heartwarming to hear”, and “I’m happy that they’re receiving all this interest”, “You guys are Hallyu stars now too!”
