Four-member group 2NE1's resident representative of beauty, Sandara Park's entire left arm is covered with tattoos. And Park Bom whose easy manner is one of her many charms is wearing what is probably the longest pair of eyelashes she would ever wear in her life. What is going on?
In April, 2NE1 released their new song, 'Don't Cry', after a long hiatus. This was followed by 'Lonely' and 'I Am The Best' in May and June. Needless to say, every song was a huge hit and grabbed the number one spot in the music charts, as well as in popular music tv shows. Particularly 'Don't Cry' and 'Lonely', which was a phenomenal success and drew a lot of attention, despite not being promoted in any tv programs. 'Lonely' even made the record for being the first Korean song to surpass 10,000,000 hits on YouTube from around the world.*
Not to mention the catchy songs that were released on MBC's 'Our Sunday Night-I Am A Singer' and 'Infinity Challenge', which garnered even more attention.
Anyone would be satisfied with such achievements. And would even be proud. But 2NE1 still regards themselves as newbies. And thus they still have much to do.
On the afternoon of 18 July, we met 2NE1's Sandara Park, Park Bom, CL and Minzy in Incheon, Gajeong-dong, on the set where they were filming the music video for 'Ugly', the title track of their upcoming mini album, which would be released on the 28th.
Right after the Korean Music Wave concert in Singapore ended, the girls went on to win the Mutizen award on Inkigayo. Just a day later, they are getting ready to film their music video. It must be physically tiring for them, but they were all smiles when they arrived on set. They were brimming with excitement with regard to their new song and dance, just as if they were just starting out.
"'Ugly' is a song that rejects the ordinary," said Sandara Park. "It's a rock song," she elaborated, stating that it is a new challenge for 2NE1.
"'Ugly' is a song with very sad lyrics that are in contrast with its strong melody", said Park Bom. "To be honest, I break down in tears every time I listen to it," she continued.
And of course, we can't possibly not talk about 'Don't Cry', 'Lonely' and 'I Am The Best', since having three consecutive hits is such a rare occurrence. But 2NE1 were surprisingly down-to-earth about it.
"Rather than sitting back and being satisfied with the results we have obtained thus far, I think we have to give our all even more and move forward", CL said. "This is because our new mini album will be officially released soon and we still have to work on our concert', she continued, showing her determination.
"To be honest, I was rather worried if people would show their love and support for our songs since it was quite a long time since our comeback", Park Bom said. "But I am really thankful that they showed so much love," she said, laughing.
Maknae Minzy adds, "All groups, including us have different personalities and characteristics, so I don't feel pressured." "I hope all groups provide more variety to the Kpop world," she said, smiling.
And they didn't forget to show their appreciation to their overseas fans.
On the subject of the music video for 'Lonely' surpassing 10,000,000 hits, CL had this to say, "Every time we stand on a stage overseas, I am always amazed and thrilled by the fans who sing along with us." "This spurs us to work even harder", she said.
"Following our mini album promotions, we want to do a good job for our first solo concert, which will take place at the end of August," CL continued. "We will show you many sides of ourselves at the concert. Following which, we will begin our activities in Japan. Please support us," she said, in ending.

Date: 2011-07-20 01:16 am (UTC)in any case, it's kinda obvious that yg has always tried to make dara the ~quirky~ one, bommie the ~bombshell~, cl the ~chic~ one and minji the (ok idk what minji's concept is. sporty?) so i shall just go with ~perfect maknae~. but in all honesty, dara is probably the only one who can pull these crazy shit off and still have the whole korea having a boner for her. the only time she was styled conventionally well (the go away period), i thought she looked sooo basic and boring omg. so yeah, i love crazy ass dara.
