Daesung apologizes to victim's family & agrees to cover all the funeral costs

According to local media Dispatch, Daesung made a visit last night to the mortuary of the motorcyclist who got killed in Tuesday’s accident and apologized to the family members. The families of the victim told Dispatch, “Daesung came a little while ago (Thursday night) with YG officials. We got an apology from Daesung and YG, and talked about future funeral arrangements as well.”

Daesung made a visit around 10:30PM on June 2nd with five other YG officials and lawyers. The report said Daesung repeatedly apologized for the tragic accident as some family members demanded a direct apology from him. “Daesung too looked to be in complete agony. At first, the YG official apologized but Daesung couldn’t even say a word. The victim’s acquaintances then asked Daesung to apologize properly, and he went on to apologize to the parents and each family member of the victim, bowing his head,” one of the family members, identified only as “A,” told Dispatch.

Korean actress Jung Si Yeon to debut in Japanese girl group, SDN48

Korean actress Jung Si Yeon has been gaining much attention for having passed the 3rd phase auditions to be a part of the popular Japanese girl group, SDN48.

SDN48 is said to be a sister group of AKB48 and the actress has walked the runway earlier this year for Gobe Collection and Tokyo Girls’ Collection, having debuted in Korea last year.

A representative for office48Korea stated, “It’s very exciting that Jung Si Yeon became the first Korean to be a part of SDN48, and this shows SDN48’s intent to advance into the Korean industry. This is only the beginning, Jung Si Yeon will have to keep working hard to be chosen as the best member in SDN48. T-ara's café franchise opens on JULY 1st

T-ara has just announced that they will be opening a café in Kangnam that will be developed into a nation-wide chain of 500 stores!

The girls personally designed and invested in the café alongside their Core Contents Media CEO, Kim Kwang Soo. “Cafe Page One” will open on July 1st under a ’star shop’ concept, and the girls will be present to greet the customers themselves.

Commenting on the coffee franchise, the CEO stated, “By using our status in entertainment to create a small area of leisure, I wanted to show people that the entertainment industry was not something that’s so different or far from them. We’re currently planning to open up to 500 stores nationwide.”

He continued, “The café’s name was influenced from the cafe Eunjung worked at in her drama, ‘Coffee House.’”

YangYo brings families back together and dishes some reality to fans

B2ST’s Yoseob was revealed to have persuaded one of his runaway fans to return home.

According to reports, a woman had visited the Cube Entertainment office looking for her daughter, who had run away from home with hopes of meeting Yoseob.

Because she did not return home the previous night, the mom felt she had no choice but to come to the company office. After hearing her story, staff members began searching the area around B2ST’s dorm and were eventually able to find her daughter, who had stood outside waiting the entire night.

Representatives said, “Yoseob met with the fan and told her that she could come meet B2ST whenever she wanted to, as long as she never ran away from home again. The fan listened and returned home.”

They continued, “We are thankful for fans expressing their love for B2ST, but please remember that you are also a member of society and need to act accordingly. Running away from home to meet your favorite artist is not a proper expression of your love for them.”

Boyfriend’s Kwangmin has recently broken his thumb and ruptured a ligament!

On June 2nd, Starship Entertainment revealed,

“During a intro performance rehearsal last week, Kwangmin broke his right thumb.“

At the hospital, Kwangmin’s finger was diagnosed as a ruptured ligament. According to a Starship Entertainment representative,

“During today’s stage rehearsal, he hurt the same area and so he went to the hospital again.“

Kwangmin was scheduled to perform on “M! Countdown” today, and regardless of his injury, he hopes to have a perfect performance and has already visited the hospital before the show.

Boyfriend debuted on “M! Countdown” last week and plans to continue with their activities with their second “M! Countdown” stage today. Their busy day today had started with a pre-recorded outdoor stage performance at Caribbean Bay for this week’s Music Core.

The story of South Korea’s musical exports

This spring, the Hollywood Bowl hosted a big-budget festival “for all generations” featuring a family-friendly parade of torch singers, hip-pop crews, and boy and girl bands. But instead of a shot in the arm for America’s pick-pocketed music industry, it’s a showcase for the boom of cultural exports from what CNN dubs “the Hollywood of the East”: South Korea.

K-Pop—named after (Japanese) J-Pop before it—has attained fashion first status in Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Singapore. More surprisingly, acts are making inroads into the self-sufficient charts of Japan—and more unpredictably, starting to occupy the imagination of a neo-capitalist China.

K-Pop’s rise began in the ’90s. South Korea had emerged as one of the Tiger Economies via a determined, decades-long drive to build up a competitive hi-tech manufacturing industry (starring Samsung, Hyundai and LG). This triumph of capitalism could only be achieved via a failure of democracy—a series of military republics kept free speech and wages down, as true to their own ideology as their more notorious neighbor. Democracy finally arrived in 1987, and the new rulers attempted to reform, while continuing to rely upon, the country’s chaebol (dynastic family businesses the size of multinational corporations). Likewise, as nearby China outpaced the Tiger Economies, South Korea’s previously isolationist foreign policy shifted to segyehwa—a political term usually translated as “globalization” (but more usefully ambiguous).

Top Mundi is a show from MTV Brazil, hosted by VJ Didi, where the music video's rankings are voted by the viewers, through a poll on MTV's Brazil website. The network publishes a list with music videos from all over the world, escaping the usual Brazil-USA, seeking variety and presenting European, Asian, Latin American and others artists.

The show has been receiving attention from the Asian music fans, and it has become customary to see famous artists from Japan and Korea on their weekly ranks.

The last show broadcasted on May, reserved a pleasant surprise for the fans of the South Korean group, Big Bang, once their music video of “Love Song” received an expressive amount of votes from the netizens, getting the first place on the last 27th (reruns on Sunday 29th and Monday 30th of May). Besides that, VJ Didi spoke about the voting happening on the official page of Big Bang on Facebook, regarding a possible global event, and asked the viewers to 'like' Brazil, that way they could bring the group to Brazil.

That shows that Brazil not only has a massive audience for the Asian music in general, but reaffirms the big numbers of Big Bang fans in Brazil.

Four dead in apparent Korean Internet suicide pact

TWO young men and two women were found dead in a car on Thursday in an apparent Internet-based group suicide, South Korean police said.

Police said the four, including a 25-year-old woman identified only as Park, left suicide notes in their bags in the car parked next to a river in Seongju, 210km south-east of Seoul.

They apparently inhaled toxic fumes after burning coal briquettes inside the vehicle, which had its windows sealed with plastic tape, police said.

Park's mother in Seoul told investigators that her daughter was reported missing on May 30 after joining a suicide-related website, Yonhap news agency said.

Suicide is the leading cause of death among young people in South Korea, with heavy stress from its highly competitive educational environment and job market taking a lethal toll.

Copycat suicides have increased since an actor killed himself in 2008 by burning coal briquettes in his car.

After School to debut in Japan this summer

Today it was revealed that nine-member Korean girl group After School will finally release their first Japanese single.

The so-called “Triple S” group – Sexy, Style and Show – already collaborated with hip-pop-queen Amuro Namie earlier this year, and after launching their official Japanese website as well as performing at a big fashion show in Tokyo, it was only a matter of time for them to announce their official Japanese debut.

Their first single, a Japanese version of their hit song “Bang!“, is slated for a release on August 17th. Before that, one month prior to their official debut, on July 17th, the group will hold their first solo performance at Akasaka BLITZ in Tokyo.

Leader Kahi about their upcoming Japanese debut, “We will work hard in order to show everyone in Japan why we are known as a group with fascinating performances in Korea. We want to meet all of you soon!”
