Although they apparently came to a compromise last month, KBS and Big Bang are at it again, as Big Bang was recently reported to have rejected an appearance on “Music Bank“.

A representative of a broadcast company shared with Newsen, “A day before their recording for ‘Music Bank,’ Big Bang told producers that they would not be appearing on the show because they were not a nominee for the ‘K-Chart‘.”

He continued, “Two weeks ago, Big Bang was promised a two-track stage, but after finding out that the ‘K-Chart’ nominees were TVXQ and K.Will, they suddenly changed their decision and said they would not be attending.”

As it turns out, representatives of YG Entertainment had indeed put up a notice for fans asking them to attend the pre-recording for Big Bang, but “Music Bank” later put up a notice saying that plans were canceled due to a personal reason from the artists’ end.

According to a majority of music and broadcast representatives, “Music Bank” had prepared a ’spring special’ with a bigger time slot. In order to make up for past controversies, “Music Bank” offered Big Bang a two-track stage, which YG had accepted. Unfortunately, a day before the recording was to be held, Big Bang called in saying that they would not be appearing, which representatives have interpreted to mean, “Aren’t they basically saying that they refuse to appear if they’re not a nominee for the ‘K-Chart’?”

YG Entertainment had tried to clarify that there “was a misunderstanding“, but the damage had already been done.

Sports Hankooki
recently surveyed the leaders of five famous dance teams, asking them to choose an idol group member who they felt best excelled in dancing. Three out of the five chose Big Bang’s Taeyang, placing him at first; incidentally, these three choreographers are from Korea’s “Big 3″ companies – YG Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, and SM Entertainment. YG Entertainment’s head choreographer High Tech’s Lee Jae Wook, commented, “There’s no other idol who could follow the strength, skill, and facial expressions Taeyang uses in his dance.”
JYP Entertainment’s head choreographer, Park Nam Yong, added, “His moves are clean and he’s exceptional at expressing his emotions.”
SM Entertainment’s head choreographer, Beat Burger’s Hwang Sang Hoon, praised, “His skill is exceptional.”
On the other hand, Play Dance’s Park Sang Hyun, who choreographed SECRET’s “Magic” and “Madonna“, chose Jay Park. He reasoned, “Jay Park is able to take on dances from both the old school and new school. …Maybe it’s because Jay Park grew up in the States, but he doesn’t follow the trends and creates his own style.”
Prepix’s Ha Woo Sin, the head choreographer for B2ST, chose members Junhyung and Hyunseung. ”Yong Junhyung professionally pursued dance and dreamt of becoming a dancer before he became a B2ST member. Because of that, every single one of his gestures set him apart from the other idol members. Jang Hyunseung is your traditional practice mania.”
Although they were able to come up with a majority consensus on male dancers, opinions on female dancers were divided; 2NE1’s Minzy and BoA were joint first with two votes each.
Lee Jae Wook reasoned, “Minzy has the ability of turning any dance into her own style,” while Park Sang Hun added, “Minzy is eye-catching. She has great technique when it comes to expressing a dance.”
Hwang Sang Hoon chose BoA, explaining, “She has the power of dominating a stage. I’d love to be able to see BoA and Taeyang on stage together.”
Ha Woo Sin gave a big thumbs up to miss A’s Min“Min has great power and is also understanding of local dances, most likely because she grew up in the States. I think she has a great understanding of dances, and is a great dancer overall.”

Despite the many girl groups that keep debuting each month, industry representatives are already calling it the end of the girl group era. Variety programs that catered to girl groups like “Invincible Youth“, “Heroes“, and even “Bouquet“, have either been canceled due to low viewer ratings, or have undergone a concept change departing from girl groups entirely.

The competition still remains fierce though, and if a group doesn’t have that special something to set them apart from others, it only takes a second to be buried by the next.

It’s certainly a game of survival out there, and SISTAR has managed to play their cards right.

It hasn’t even been a year since their debut, but they’ve already got three hit tracks under their belt, as well as a ‘K-Chart’ trophy.

Embracing the lovely season of Spring for their overall concept, these members blossomed with an ultra-feminine image. For their album photos, they were snapped in white dresses against a field of flowers. However, the girls will be taking a more luxurious image for their title track, “To Me“, in order to better relay the song’s lyrics of exacting revenge on an untrue lover.

Oh yeah!
What is this, you ask? Good question, because I have no idea, but we were sent information about this group recently, and it’s certainly attention grabbing, don’t you think?
Apparently, this group is named Asobi Connection, and they’re based out of Seoul. Made up of 8 members – HIRO (Producer, DJ), MADTEAM (Producer, DJ), ELCA (Performer), JAY (Performer), KENJI (Performer), KIRA (Performer), B KAY (Performer), and SEAN (Performer) – they promote themselves as the “KOREAN NO.1 DANCE MUSICIAN / PERFORMANCE GROUP” (in all caps, mind you), and go on to say, “ASOBI Connection is the club performance group comprised with gorgeous coed dancing team and electronically dance producers.”

Their first single was released way back in May of 2010, which was called “THING YOU THOUGHT I’D NEVER DO” (again, all caps, because it’s exciting, you see), and their first EP was released in October 2010. Their current relevancy is that the Producer/DJ MADTEAM has a track on the OST of “My Black Mini Dress“.

For all you out there who complain about wanting something original… well… it doesn’t get much more original than this, does it? Admittedly my first reaction was to hate on it, but over time, I looked at this with an increasingly entertained and curious mindset.

Besides, you gotta love anybody whose contact info is hirodick@gmail.com, right?

Anyway, check out their Facebook page here, and their performance videos below!

Those who have been listening to Korean pop music for a long time have probably heard about the group Royal Pirates. This California-based rock band rose to Internet fame with their covers of popular Korean pop songs in 2008. After a long wait, it seems that they will be debuting in Korea after all.

They initially started as Fading from Dawn in 2004, but changed names when one of its band members, brother to vocalist Moonchul, died in an accident. As the other members felt they couldn't keep the same name without him in the band, Fading from Dawn became Royal Pirates.

Right after their name change they started recording their "Youtube famous" covers of songs like Super Junior's "Sorry Sorry", Wonder Girls' "Nobody", and TVXQ's "Mirotic". Apart from the K-Pop songs they also released their own version of Britney Spears' "Circus" and "Time is Running Out", a song from Muse, the band they claim has had a lot of influence on them.

It didn't take long for them to get noticed by K-Pop fans and the music industry, as they got love calls from Korea, asking them to appear on different shows. The popular show "Star King" was one of them. But as the boys didn't want to be labeled as just a K-Pop cover band, they declined the offers, and went on to work on their own music.

This resulted in the release of "Disappear", a song that they released independently with its own music video as well. The EP they promised to release never came as it seemed that the boys did answer one of the calls, and left for Korea not that long after.

A Tumblr account dedicated to the band revealed today that they are recording demo versions for songs at the moment, but aren't planning on recording an official album yet. They did say they'll be debuting in Korea, but they don't know when they'll be able to do so yet. Royal Pirates also revealed that they, most likely, will not be appearing on music shows like M! Countdown, Inkigayo, or any other show that doesn't support live instruments, as they don't want to handsync.

The drama “Poseidon”, which initially attracted attention as Eric’s comeback project, is now on the verge of being aborted.

“Poseidon”, a drama based on the special ops team of the coast guard, had attracted much attention for its cast of Eric, Kim Kang Woo, Kim Ok Bin, U-Know Yunho and Jeon Hye Bin. Although principal filming started at the end of last year, filming was halted by the Yeonpyeong-do incident and bad weather. Although there were discussions with SBS to arrange for the drama to be broadcast in May, talks eventually fell through and the drama found its future left in the balance.

On April 6th, girl group KARA unleashed their third Japanese single, “Jet Coaster Love“, after the original release date was pushed back due to the natural disasters that struck Japan early last month.

As soon as it was released onto the music charts, “Jet Coaster Love” instantly rose to #2 on the Oricon Chart. The incredible thing was that KARA dominated the chart without the help of promotional activities, thus proving once again their explosive popularity in the country.

All proceeds from the single will be donated to Japan’s natural disaster relief aid.

Star News

Despite issues with their label DSP Entertainment, KARA's controversy has not affected their popularity in Japan, as the group's latest single claimed the no.2 spot on the Oricon Daily Charts.

Coming in behind the popular female group SDN48, KARA's 3rd single "Jet Coaster Love" debuted at no.2, making it their highest charting 1st day single after all their previous singles debuted at no.5.

The group was able to beat other popular artists like the rock band UVERword, female artist YUKI, and the veteran female group Morning Musume.

Regardless of the single's success, KARA will be making an honorable deed, by donating all the profits from single to the Japanese earthquake victims.
