TOUCH turns into Fashion Designers!?
2011-04-06 12:56 am

Myself with the members of TOUCH.
The boys (above from left to right: Sunwoong, Younghoon, Hanjun, Sungyong and Junyong) were all donned in dapper white blazers over white T-shirts and black pants. They appeared relaxed throughout the interview and were not afraid to show their fun, jokester sides every now and then. If one member was making some unnecessary noises during the conversation, another would not hesitate to loudly shush him; and they did not hold back that much when laughing or expressing excitement.
TOUCH was scheduled to do an exclusive live performance at Men’s Fashion Week, and they took this occasion to reveal their brand new song “Rock in the Club” that has, according to Hanjun, never ever been heard by anyone outside of their practice sessions.
I asked them how they felt when they found out that they were going to be coming to Singapore to perform.

So what do the boys think of Singapore?
“Singapore has been great,” said leader Hanjun, who speaks fluent English. “It’s our first time here and we were really excited before we came here.” However, he also expressed regret that they did not have a chance to go out and do more touristy things, as this would have made their experience a lot more exciting. “It would’ve been better if we saw more than just the inside of our hotel room.”
The boys may not have had the opportunity to bask on the beach under Sentosa’s sun or try celebrated local delights at a famous hawker centre (at least, I don’t think they will, this time around) but they have been front row attendees at two of MFW’s fashion shows. They voiced their approval over Emmanuel’s sold out production, adding that they would gladly wear the outfits featured.
Since we were on the subject of fashion, I asked TOUCH to describe their group in terms of their style. They started throwing out all sorts of adjectives and a handful of random words.
“Amazing!” “Revolution!” “Beautiful!” “New!” “Undeniable!” “Incredible!”
Hanjun is the one who elaborated. “We try things that other idol groups normally wouldn’t try.” He then went on to talk about TOUCH’s look during the era of their first album. “We mixed training clothes like Adidas sweatpants with a suit. No one’s ever tried that before, and it turned out good. We like to try something different and new, to out-trend.”
With all the constant changing of looks the band has to go through, how does their stylist leave room for each individual member’s personality to shine through?
“The stylist somehow looks at our personality and our style, and tries to blend that in with his concept and his idea.”
The final part of the interview involved pieces of paper, pencils, and channeling TOUCH’s inner Lagerfeld, McQueen, McCartney or Jacobs.
“I want you guys to design an outfit for yourselves.” I handed the stationery to the boys, who seemed intrigued and delighted at this idea. The group immediately spread out to different areas of the suite to commence work on their masterpieces.

And here are their gloriously adorable creations:

Sungyong’s very Tommy Hilfiger-esque prep chic design.

I’ll be very honest with you, Hanjun, I did not know that these were supposed to be a pair of pants. And dear fans, if this garment ever materializes, please note that the word “TOUCH” is the brand, not an instruction.

Polka-dot shoes, a clutch and harem pants. Quite the fashionista aren’t you, Younghoon?

Sun Woong demanded – jokingly, of course – for a set of crayons which I didn’t possess. He said and I quote: “I cannot design without crayons.”

And last but not least, a “Junyong Made” exclusive that is highly reminiscent of an anime costume.

I'm not a fan of them, but I chanced upon this while reading FeverAvenue, a local food/fashion/music blog and thought the interview was really cute. And Hanjun's drawing is just epic. It looks like a giamongous bolster to me, lol.
