An OST track from KBS's "Dream High" had some netizens accusing JYP Entertainment of plagiarism. The song in question, "Some Day", was written by Park Jin Young and sung by teenage sensation, IU.

According to the complaints, "Some Day" reportedly carries a chorus similar to Ash's song "To My Man", which released back in October of 2005. Others are of the view that it’s not just the chorus that was similar, but the progression of the song as well. The difference, they point out, is that "Some Day"'s beat was faster than "To My Man"'s.

JYP Entertainment released their official statement to Star News on January 29th, which began: "When this controversy sprouted, we listened to 'To My Man' today. When we heard it, the chorus part did seem similar, but these chord progressions and melodies are frequently used in mainstream music."

The plagiarism debate between IU's "Some Day" (produced by Park Jin Young) and Ash's "To My Man" (produced by Kim Shin Il) has developed into a legal battle.

On January 31st, a representative of Kim Shin Il's agency revealed to Star News, "After speculations of plagiarism between 'Someday' and 'To My Man' broke out, representatives of the agency held a two-day meeting on the 29th and 30th. Kim Shin Il revealed that he will be filing a lawsuit." Legal representatives were also said to have been present during the two-day meeting.

Representatives of JYP Entertainment spoke through Newsen and responded, "We feel unfortunate about the controversy, but should composer Kim Shin Il file a lawsuit, we will be taking action through our legal team."

“Paradise” Abs: Changmin and Joo Sang Wook face-off!

On the January 31st episode of “Paradise Ranch,” TVXQ’s Changmin and Joo Sang Wook’s characters strip down to win their lady love.

After a coincidental meeting at a resort pool, Changmin and Joo Sang Wook, who are both tied to love interest Lee Yeon Hee, will flex their abs and hit the swim lanes in what quickly escalates into a battle of egos. With Changmin slowly realizing that he still has feelings for his ex-wife, Joo Sang Wook quickly answers his challenge – it’s sink or swim for love, and round 1 of this clash will be quite the spectacle.

Though we have to wait until the episode airs to see who the winner will be, the teaser pictures alone are just enough to make any fan girl’s head swim.

10: The largest happening on a variety show was in MBC’s ‘Quiz to Change the World’ when Sungjong-sshi went on the MC’s table and danced laying down. What were you thinking then?
Sungjong: Ha… It’s my world.

10: Weren’t you nervous?
Sungjong: Not at all. I wanted to do more, but I thought I would become disliked so I just did a bit.
Sunggyu: There was a time when our CEO put a ban on Sungjong doing girl group dances. Because he would become disliked if he continued to do it, our CEO said in a serious tone, “I’m not going to leave you alone if you dance one more time.”, but since there was nothing for him to do on variety shows, he took off the ban. I was shocked at first with the dances, but now I don’t give it much thought. Because I became used to it.

Super Junior’s leader, Leeteuk, who was involved in a car accident in Singapore, has returned to Korea and was examined for possible injuries in a hospital.

On January 31st, SM Entertainment stated through Money Today Star News, “Leeteuk has returned from Singapore to Seoul with other members early this morning. Shortly after arriving, he went to the hospital to get checked up for possible injuries, and to get related physical examinations.”

They also stated, “Fortunately, it was confirmed after tests that Leeteuk was not hurt, but doctors said it would be better for him to take a break.” They added, “Heechul, who was also involved in the crash, is going to the hospital tomorrow for his turn (February 1st), but this may be rescheduled depending on his schedule”.

A video has been uploaded revealing new Co-ed sub-unit girl group 5Dolls vigorously training for their upcoming debut.

The video shows the daily routine of the five members as they have rap lessons from 12pm-2:30pm, vocal lessons from 3pm-5:30pm, acting lessons from 6pm-8pm, and finally dance practice from 9pm-2am. During their dance lesson, viewers get to hear a sneak peek of their debut song as they practice their choreography.

The girls also held a short interview where they were asked, “How are you going to study when the school year starts?“. They responded, “I’m thinking about buying books and studying independently“. The interviewer also asked one of the girls, “Don’t your parents live in Gwang-Ju?” as she nodded her head and said “Yes, I haven’t seen them in a while. The last time I saw them was on New Years day.”

Late into the night, the girls finally arrive back at their dorm and the viewers get to see their home, filled with boxes and racks of clothes and shoes.

The video also reveals how much it costs to train the girls per month. Their dorms cost 1.4mil won (about $1,200), lesson fees are 5mil won (about $4,400), both transportation and meals cost 2mil won each (about $1,800 each), medical fees cost around 1mil won (about $900), and other costs… making a grand total of 18mil won (about $16,000). These fees are all paid for by the company.

Watching this video and looking at all the hard work the members put in and the money the company spends to train them, one can see why idol singers are so successful nowadays in the Kpop world.

We wish the 5doll members good luck and a successful debut!

Rising Hallyu star Song Joong Ki recently faced an embarrassing moment during his stay in Tokyo’s Shinjuku district.

The embarrassing incident began when the actor took a trip up to Tokyo for the program, ‘QTV Special I’m Real Song Joong Ki.’ For his first night’s stay, the actor lost a game while playing with his affiliated company members and thus had to face the punishment of visiting a nearby convenience store in his pajamas.

Reluctantly, the star fulfilled the task, but decided to don sunglasses to hide his identity. Despite his efforts, however, he was immediately discovered in the hotel elevator by some fangirls.

These fangirls joked, “You are not as popular in Japan as you are in Korea, so don’t worry” and “Truthfully I am Jung Yonghwa’s fan.”

This representative also added that, "These actors know that they are being discussed for the respective roles. We think reporters chose a select few of all those being discussed to report," and "We don't know what to do because these reporters wrote articles that made it sound like actors are confirmed to appear when they're not."

Jang Dong Gun's agency also stated, "There are many dramas and movies Jang Dong Gun is considering at this point and 'HanBanDo' happens to be one of them," and "Because the movie 'My Way' is scheduled to film until autumn this year, he may not appear if his schedule doesn't match that of the drama."

Last December, Big Bang and Jinusean’s Sean made a surprise visit to a young girl named Jung Eun, who was fighting for her life against leukemia.

Jung Eun was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 15, and her one dream was to meet Big Bang’s Daesung in real life, which led her father to leave a message on a Big Bang fansite.

Sean immediately took notice of it, and he and the Big Bang members periodically visited the fan in the hospital. They even invited her to their concert in February, in the hopes that she’d be well enough to attend by then.

But on January 28th, Sean revealed that Jung Eun had passed away. The artist wrote through his Twitter:

Jung Eun has left for Heaven.

Because of her father’s love and the efforts of Big Bang’s fans, Jung Eun was able to receive the precious gift of spending time with the members of Big Bang before she left. Jung Eun herself gave us a gift in return, in which she raised awareness for children fighting leukemia.

I’ve earned a lot of things from Jung Eun.  Jung Eun was able to bring together the fans of Big Bang under one heart. Jung Eun became a great example of the power of social networking.

Our country is the strongest IT nation in the world, and I’d like for us to think for once just what we choose to share through social networking.  I think it’d great if this section of our lives helped realize someone’s dreams, gave hope, and shared love.  While fighting leukemia, this internet space was what helped Jung Eun realize her dream of meeting Big Bang.”

Netizens commented, “It would’ve been so great if she was able to attend their concert in February…,” “I hope she is happy in Heaven,” and “Rest in peace.”

I am a horrible person. I read Barbara Demick's prize-winning Nothing to Envy, a brilliant book about the lives of real people in famine-stricken North Korea, and no sooner had I put it down than I was emailing a man I know only a little, but whose wife is Korean, in order to discover the location of a good Korean restaurant (interesting fact: the most authentic ones are all in New Malden, in south-west London, which has the largest expatriate community of South Koreans in Europe). I know. I'm not proud of this. By rights, I should have immediately joined some kind of "free North Korea" group. But in my defence, I don't think Demick would be put out by this unfeelingness. After all, her scrupulous work paid off: she stirred in me a sudden fascination with all things Korean. It's just that the easiest and swiftest way I could respond to it – Korea itself being an awfully long way away – was by feeding my face.

Choi Dong-hoon, the director of the hit fusion action comedy Jeon Woo Chi, is back with a new movie titled Thieves, and Lee Jung-jae is currently in final talks to star.

The film unfolds as a gang of thieves joins forces with the master thief who’d betrayed them in the past as they attempt a diamond heist out of a Singapore casino. The head thief’s old flame, along with Korean and Chinese police pursuers, complicate matters along the way.

While no contracts have been signed for other stars, there’s a good chance we’ll see a number of actors who have previously worked with director Choi, such as Kim Yoon-seok (Jeon Woo Chi, The Chaser), who is currently a possibility to star. Also reportedly in contention is Jeon Ji-hyun (Blood: The Last Vampire), although frankly it seems there are always about ten random rumors about her supposed next project to every real one.

Thieves is currently busy casting, and plans to begin filming in May.

MBC's 'Sisa Magazine 2580' released a report on the dispute between idols and their entertainment agencies but has fallen under a concentrated attack by JYJ fans. These fans of JYJ claim that the program was adjusted with a strong bias towards the entertainment agencies before it was aired.

On the 30th, 'Sisa Magazine 2580' aired an in depth report on the disputes between idols and their entertainment agencies as Kara's proclamation to end their contract with their agency has brought up the controversy once more. The episode had garnered great attention before it aired for it was known that it would deal with JYJ's situation as well, as they have been unable to appear on broadcasting channels due to their legal dispute after the disbandment of TVXQ.

However, many viewers expressed their disappointment after watching the show. Currently, complaints are flooding into the viewers' thread. Viewers are showing their anger at the show stating, "You said you would handle the situation in a fair manner, but all you did was show the viewpoint of the strong side," "If you're going to report the situation in this kind of way, what makes you any different from the way entertainment shows are run?" "So what you're trying to tell us is that it takes a lot of money to raise idol groups," "You've done nothing but show the side of entertainment agencies," and "This is a biased report."

There are netizens demanding a fair report on the matter as SM Entertainment's opinion received more air time in an interview with a SM representative while JYJ's refutation was hardly shown. JYJ are holding the stance that they are not signed on to a dual contract as C-JES, the company in charge of managing JYJ, is their agency and not their entertainment company.

Some netizens have even criticized 'Sisa Magazine 2580' for randomly promoting a rookie girl group in the middle of the episode though they are not related to the report's content whatsoever. While CEO Kim Kwang Soo was explaining that it is hard for entertainment agencies to gain profit when so much of the sales is spent on costs, the camera caught 'Five Dolls' rehearsing. 'Five Dolls' is the female unit group of 'Co-ed' that is preparing for their comeback.

The agency and Kara are having issues because it was claimed that the members only received 130,000 won which is roughly 116 USD each.

On a program aired on MBC yesterday the 30th of January used “JYJ and Kara why would they?” to spotlight the issues between companies and their respective artists. This program had three members of Kara (Han Seung Yeon, Nicole, and Kang Ji Young) and a lawyer (Home Myung Ho) from Landmark. The lawyer said that “I understand the terms of the contract now after reading it, the members and their parents still don’t have an exact idea.” He continued that they did not know what the obligations were. He also revealed that when the company signed with Japanese labels, they keep around 273 million won (roughly $244,062 USD). The members have not received any of that payment and had no idea that the company was taking the money while signing the contracts.

The lawyer continued to state that although “Jumping” made about 400 million won, around 397 million won was labeled as expenses. He finished by saying that one member earning $116 a month was very hard to understand.

DSP Entertainment acknowledged that there were disagreements with the revenue-sharing. They said that they told the members they are take a little more because they are in the process of adjusting. Artists also make money from various endorsements so that is why the miscellaneous expense will be larger from the revenues sharing of the music aspect.

Netizens felt that more than 99% of earnings deducted to expenses seemed to be wrong. Also they felt that it was wrong for the companies to not explain the contracts in detail when the families did not completely understand them.
