Asia’s first “hip hop a capella” girl group to debut in January

Coin Jackson, Korea’s upcoming girl group, has released an official photo in anticipation of their debut.

The girls will deliver music that’s been described as ‘hip hop a capella’. It’s a genre that many are not familiar with, and so the hype for the group is already quite high – the photo released today has only heightened interest, since Coin Jackson appears to be different from the typical ‘cutesy’ girl group.

In this photo, they look like they’re going for a tougher, sassier look, as seen by their black leather outfits.

Their company, PPP Entertainment said, “Though they haven’t debuted yet, they’ve received a game CF offer, as well as love calls from Japan and China. Their debut track ‘Feedback‘ will showcase their powerful voices, and their performance will be nothing short of energetic.”

The group will debut in the beginning of February.

After causing quite a stir as a talented singer from the UK on “Star King“, Shannon has signed with Core Contents Media.

On January 22nd, Core Contents expressed, “After watching her on ‘Star King,’ we were very interested in her due to her talents and her lovable face. We decided to sign her.”

Shannon appeared on “Star King” a total of three times last year and earned the nickname of “4 High Notes” because she can hit notes that most singers are unable to hit.

She’s only thirteen but her career is already blooming.

She is the child of a British father and a Korean mother, and she attended a performing arts school in the UK and learned how to act there. She’s been doing musicals since the age of seven.

Kim Kwang Soo, CEO of Core Contents Media, said, “I want to raise Shannon like the second BoA. She has a lot of potential and talent.”

She has been living in Korea these days and will start training to become a singer.

Teenager IU is undisputedly one of the hottest singers of the moment. The 18-year-old high-school student's real name is Lee Ji-eun, but her management agency gave her a stage name "IU," meaning "I and You become one through music," she says.

"I've given dozens of interviews since the release of my latest album in December.  I'm so busy that I don't even have time to whine. I haven't been able to sleep for nearly four days, but I can sustain myself with the moments of fun I get," she says.

Her formal musical education ended in fifth grade when she completed Czerny's 50 etudes for piano. But she wanted to sing so much that she started going to auditions when she was in her second year in middle school. After about 20 failed auditions, one management agency was finally interested.

IU made a debut in 2009 when she was in her third year of middle school, after 10 months of preparation. "When I went to auditions, I thought that maybe I'd be a member of a girl group and make my debut after three or four years of practice," she says. "I feel that perhaps my debut came too quickly. But I don't think I became an overnight star, because it took me three years to get here."

She tremendously enjoys shooting the teenage drama "Dream High" currently airing on KBS2 TV and appearing on entertainment shows. "I love being a solo artist because I get the camera all to myself, and wear pretty clothes alone. But I would love to be as beautiful as the members of girl groups," she says. "There are so many things I want to do, so I don't know what will happen. Right now, I just want to do my best in anything I do."

Shirley Kim (Nicole's Mom) has no filter between her brain and her mouth

Nicole’s mother, Shirley Kim, expressed her thoughts on KARA’s contract termination for the first time since the reports were announced.

She’s been targeted as the ringleader of the controversy, and even badmouthed DSP Media in a series of posts she wrote on her Twitter.

Through a phone call with TV Report on January 21st, Kim stated, “I have nothing to say. I’m speaking through my legal representatives.” She then attempted to hang up the phone until reporters mentioned rumors regarding ‘hundreds of thousands of dollars behind her back.’ Kim quickly replied, “That’s completely groundless, I’ll explain that immediately.”

Ever since the 20th, the entertainment industry was abuzz with rumors speculating the entertainment agency manager, ‘J,‘ the one that offered KARA better contracts, to be a close friend of Kim.

Kim began angrily shouting into the phone, “I have a friend that is in commerce and a friend that owns a hospital. If I’m sick, who will I go to? Obviously the friend with the hospital! The ‘J’ that works in the entertainment industry is my friend of 19 years. Isn’t it obvious that I’d go to him to discuss what’s been happening?”

At the mention of ‘J’ offering a new contract worth hundreds of thousands, Kim replied, “That rumor makes absolutely no sense. I want to move out right now, but I don’t have enough money, what are you talking about?”

When asked about the possibility of the three members returning to DSP, she replied, “Before the press conference, I told Hong not to mention what could turn into a controversy. I told him to exclude anything that could stimulate DSP, which is why the terms weren’t stated. Should a situation arise where I’m able to talk more comfortably, I will express everything then.”

SS501’s Kim Hyung Jun signs with Avex, to release album in Japan

This past summer, the boys of SS501 ended their relationship with DSP Entertainment with the expiration of the their contracts. All the members went to various companies but despite being in different companies for their solo activities, the boys will still retain the SS501 name and eventually release tracks together as a group. During this time, member Kim Hyung Jun went on to sign with S-Plus Entertainment in Korea and it’s been recently revealed that he has signed on with Avex Entertainment for his solo activities in Japan. The information was recently posted on his official Japanese fanclub webpage.

The yet unnamed Japanese solo album is scheduled to be released on March 23rd and will go on pre sale on January 24th. He’s also scheduled to hold his [1st Part in Tokyo] fan meeting at the Shinagawa Stella Ball in Tokyo on February 19th. At this event, he will release more details on this album and also potentially sing some of the tracks from the upcoming album.

DSP Media has released an official press statement in regards to a supposed KARA press conference in Japan. Reportedly, all five girls were said to appear in order to speak about matters regarding the DSP Media contract terminations.

On January 23rd, Japan’s Sankei Sports News said, “KARA will visit Japan in the beginning of next week to resume their activities. Because of the drama ‘URAKARA,’ KARA was supposed to come to Japan on the 22nd to film, but they have postponed it to next week. Additionally, the Japanese office of DSP Media is organizing a press conference with the five members.”

DSP Media has just revealed that this report is unfortunately false. They clarified, “We do not have a press conference scheduled nor have we started to plan one, as the three members have yet to finalize their decisions. The schedule for their next filming of ‘URAKARA’ is still under discussion.”

An insider on the Kara case has revealed that one of the three has desperately been wanting to come back. In the beginning, she followed her parents because of their strong opinions, but now she is conveying her own opinions to her parents and is in the process of convincing them to go back to DSP Media.

She has been reported to stay up many nights crying when the news came out because she was so shocked, and now her parents have softened on the case because of her passionate request to go back.

A Kara staff member commented, "She's still young, so she's very innocent and kind. She has a lot of aegyo, so she has a lot of love from not only company staff but broadcasting staff. She is not the calculating type at all, so I'm sure she just went along with her parents without thinking too much about it."

KARA Restarting Activities, Heading To Japan

Part of 5 member girl pop group KARA is in a dispute with their company to terminate their contracts. However, it was announced on the 22nd that KARA would be arriving in Japan at the beginning of the week to resume their Japanese activities.

On the 21st, the agent for the 3 members who are trying to cancel their contracts with DSP Media spoke for them, “The members want to work as 5”. It is possible that there may be a press conference to resolve the disbandment and separation crisis that the girls are going through.

According to authorized officials, the girls were supposed to arrive in Japan on the 22nd to start filming for TV Tokyo’s drama “URAKARA”, but it had since been changed to the beginning of the following week. DSP’s Japanese branch took the initiative and gave the girls a 2 day “grace period”. All 5 members have began preparing for an interview in advance.

The reporters of KBS 2TV’s “Entertainment Relay” visited the set of 2PM’s recent photoshoot, and asked the members about Wooyoung and Taecyeon’s new roles in the drama, “Dream High.”

Wooyoung, who made his first acting debut through the drama, was revealed by Chansung to have “practiced his script and acting for three months straight.” Nichkhun confirmed, “Wooyoung really did practice a lot, and his script-reading has improved.”
