PD Hong to drama ‘You’re Beautiful’ reveals reason for casting UEE

PD Hong SeongChan of SBS ongoing hit drama ‘You’re Beautiful’ reveals the reason why After School member UEE was casted as character Yoo HeYi on the show.

PD Hong said in a recent interview, “We did many auditions for the casting of character Yoo HeYi in the show, and UEE was one of the auditionees. We decided to test the auditionees for crying scenes without giving them any hints before that. UEE did a good crying scene almost instantly and we casted her immediately.”

PD Hong also said, “Now looking at UEE’s acting, we think we’ve made a good choice.”


The PD also talked about cast Jang GeunSeok, Park ShinHye and Jung YoungHwa, “GeunSeok plays the team leader who is the core of the team, ShinHye is one who acts well with stamina even when she is tired. And YoungHwa’s acting is not that of a newcomer at all.”

Taegoon and Jaejoong’s 1 Night, 2 Day Vacation Together

It was revealed that TVXQ’s Hero Jaejoong and Taegoon recently went on a trip and spent 1 night and 2 days together in Busan.



The two stars spent 2 days from November 7 to November 8 together in Busan, both having a break for the first time in some time. Residents of Busan said they’d seen the two together at the local sea food market in Busan, and eating and resting together.

Both Taegoon and Jaejoong were born in January 1986 and grew up in the same hometown. Until now they have maintained a fantastic friendship.

Jaejoong had previously appeared in Taegoon’s debut MV Call Me earlier this year after Jaejoong’s long attempts to convince SM to let him appear in the video.

Meanwhile, Taegoon is enjoying popularity in Japan as he held a successful fanmeet in July, two events in November at Sanrio Puroland and a famous live house, and his first solo concert planned for December at Tokyo’s Nanako Zero Hall.

Taegoon is currently busy with activities for his 3rd minialbum, while Jaejoong’s kiss scene in Heaven’s Postman is collecting interest.

Red Underwear Back in Vogue Amid Flu Fears

Forget all-new style trends, old-fashioned red thermal underwear is back in vogue this year as winter sets in.

The traditional body-hugging winter wear is becoming a popular choice again as consumers want both good luck and protection from the fast-spreading H1N1 flu.

"Red is a color of good luck and success," said Kim Eun-hyuk, a merchandiser at Lotte Department Store, "So shoppers seem to be choosing the color over other options to chase away the flu and bring in money during tough economic times like now."

Lotte's data show that sales of red thermal underwear last month climbed more than 40 percent compared to the same period last year.

JoKwon to Resume His Activities

Boy band 2AM leader Jo Kwon, who fell ill with the H1N1 influenza flu two weeks ago, is back on his feet after receiving a clean bill of health.

"He underwent a checkup to see if he had fully recovered from the flu and we got good news. He'll be resuming all his activities starting Saturday," an official at JYP said on Friday.

The 20-year-old singer had not appeared on TV after being diagnosed with the flu on October 28 but his sickness will not affect the airing of pre-recorded TV show "We are Married" where he makes regular appearances as a make-believe married couple with Brown Eyed Girls member Ga-in.

His popular four-member group has released two single albums since their debut in 2008.

Jaejoong to Make Public Appearance

Boy band TVXQ member Hero Jaejoong is set to make a public appearance for his movie today amidst an ongoing legal feud with his agency to have the validity of his contract nullified.

It is inevitable that Hero, who will attend a press screening for his telecinema "Postman to Heaven" on Monday, will be asked what lies in the fate of one of the most successful bands in Korea.

Hero, along with two other members Micky Yoochun and Xiah Junsu, asked a court in late July to nullify their exclusive contract with their agency SM Entertainment citing unfair terms and the court granted the three freedom to carry out their individual activities until a final verdict was made.

Korean actor Kim Joon-sung has signed with a Hollywood agency that manages Halle Berry, according to his agency on Monday.

The actor signed a management deal with agency Vincent Cirrincione Associates for his acting career in the United States, Forestar Entertainment said in a press release.

Say hello to a new year-end award ceremony

Melon.com, a popular online music website in Korea, has announced that it will be hosting a year-end music award ceremony.

The name of the ceremony is 2009 Melon Music Awards, and it will be hosted on December 16th. Melon, music distributor LOEN entertainment and cable TV company CU Media will be collaborating on this event. Melon expressed, "The 2009 Melon Music Awards will be focused on digital music sales and will be fair because sales is based purely on choice of the consumers and nobody else. We have planned this event as an alternative to traditional award ceremonies." The emphasis on fairness appears to be targeted towards Mnet's MAMA which has seen quite a number of artists shy away from it due to its questionable integrity.

Candidates of each award will be selected from songs released between the October 31 and November 1, and will be based on number of times that song has been played (30%), downloaded (50%) and other usage (20%). Combination of those factors amount to 80% and the rest are decided by user poll which starts on December 10th. There is a total of fifteen awards including Top 10, Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, OST of the Year, and The Most Popular Artist.

No information regarding participation of artists has been released so far, but since Melon is one of the biggest names in digital music industry, popular artists are expected to make appearance.

Although rookie groups MBLAQ and BEAST have been compared to one another a number of times, even on various allkpop articles, there is hardly a rivalry between the two.

Video clips of Mir dancing to BEAST's Bad Girl and Yo Seob dancing to MBLAQ's Oh Yeah have been floating around online, gaining much interest from fans of both parties. While one group was practicing their song on Music Bank, the other was watching the rehearsals behind cameras. As a child, Kim Eun Mi Young hated being different.

Growing up in Georgia, Kansas and Hawaii, in a military family, she would date only white teenagers, even when Asian boys were around.

“At no time did I consider myself anything other than white,” said Ms. Young, 48, who lives in San Antonio. “I had no sense of any identity as a Korean woman. Dating an Asian man would have forced me to accept who I was.”

It was not until she was in her 30s that she began to explore her Korean heritage. One night, after going out to celebrate with her husband at the time, she says she broke down and began crying uncontrollably.

“I remember sitting there thinking, where is my mother? Why did she leave me? Why couldn’t she struggle to keep me?” she said. “That was the beginning of my journey to find out who I am.”

The experiences of Ms. Young are common among adopted children from Korea, according to one of the largest studies of transracial adoptions, which is to be released on Monday. The report, which focuses on the first generation of children adopted from South Korea, found that 78 percent of those who responded had considered themselves to be white or had wanted to be white when they were children. Sixty percent indicated their racial identity had become important by the time they were in middle school, and, as adults, nearly 61 percent said they had traveled to Korea both to learn more about the culture and to find their birth parents.

G-Dragon's Perfectionism Delayed His Music Video Release

Big Bang member G-Dragon released the music video for his song "A Boy" on Monday.

This is the fourth music video he is releasing from his first solo album following the videos for songs "Heartbreaker", "Breathe" and "Butterfly."

"We were going to release the video back when he had been promoting the song but G-Dragon requested to hold additional shoots for it so its release got delayed," his agency YG Entertainment said. The 21-year-old singer had promoted the song in mid-October.

Humorless, preposterous, and soaked in blood, "Ninja Assassin" turns out to be thinly-plotted schlock from a team of pedigree filmmakers who should have known better. "The day Rain did his first scene in 'Speed Racer,' the Wachowski brothers called me and said 'This guy is unbelievable. He's a natural, our dream come true.' We began to plan 'Ninja Assassin' immediately afterward," producer Joel Silver said in an earlier interview.

Unfortunately for "world star" Rain, what was to be his breakout film falls way short of what "Enter the Dragon" was for Bruce Lee. No doubt that was what the Wachowski Brothers were aiming to do by gambling on a relative unknown in the Western world.

SEOUL – “The Divine Weapon,” a martial arts action by Kim Yu-jin, won the Best Picture at Korea’s 46th Grand Bell Prize Film Award, an annual film prize handed out Friday.

The film, despite its only moderate local boxoffice success, won two other awards – Best Editing and Best Sound Technique. Kim Myung-min won Best Actor for his performance as a Lou Gehrig's Disease patient in Park Jin-pyo’s “Closer to Heaven”; Su Ae, the heroine from “Sunny” set in the Vietnam War, won the Best Actress Award. Best Director went to Kim Yong-hwa of “Take Off,” which also won the Best Cinematography Award.

A group with a somewhat familiarized concept, T-ara: B

T-ara was known for the song "A Good Person" before they debuted, and then came out with the song "Lies" as well as "T.T.L." and "T.T.L Listen 2" with Supernova. Up until "Lies" the concept wasn't anything new. The songs, style, and choreography were a general mass of cliches. While other groups were striving to break the mold, T-ara was outwardly cliched. The result was just not as good as their input.
