Currently into their Japanese advance, Big Bang was on Tokyo FM Shibuya studio on 27th June for ‘DHC Countdown Japan’ show when they revealed, “GDragon plays the role of father and TaeYang plays the role of the mother. And the member who receive the most attention is SeungRi.”

And then SeungRi said, “I’ll listen well from now on.” And the other members went, “He always say this.” causing laughter in the studio.

Big Bang said, “We are all very exicted to be able to meet our fans so near in Japan. We will remember all the faces and meet them again.”

Big Bang has signed with Universal Japan the beginning of this year and had recently released their Japanese debut single ‘My Heaven’ which took them up t o #4 on the Oricon chart on the day of the single release which then went up 1 position to #3 the next day.

Meanwhile Big Bang will release their 2nd minialbum on 8th July called ‘Gara Gara Go’.

Having caused much controversy over last Friday’s incident, SM Town’s boyband SHINee won an award at SBS Inkigayo, totaling up to 3 awards since the release of their 2nd mini-album. The crowd there has been looking after Onew to see how he was performing on stage after the injury.

On June 28th 2009, SHINee won their first Mutizen with their hit ‘Juliette’ after performing ‘Juliette’ on stage with a healthy look. The group was up against tough songs by V.O.S, 2NE1, 2PM etc. The fans in the crowd were so excited that it seems there are pushing within. Luckily there were no big incident, as the fans continue to cheer.

SM Entertainment news agency revealed that “There are no major injuries that happened to Onew and told the press that he was alright. and said there were no problems after the test results came out.” They were also surprised about what happen when the lightings fell and the SHINee member collapsed. It was lucky there were no major injuries.

Before SHINee’s comeback, it was reported that Onew fell down the stairs and hurt his teeth.

SS501's TW FM, singing, dancing, speaking, in Chinese

Korea's popular boy idol group SS501 held their fan meeting today in Taipei, where they sung 6 songs, and used Chinese to say "Hello" to fans, leader Kim Hyun Joong also specially danced a sexy dance, causing fans to be extremely high.

SS501 agreed with fans to meet in October for a concert

SS501 have come to Taiwan for their 2nd fan meeting, Leader Kim Hyun Jong did a sexy dance making the fans extremely high. BoA went to San Francisco Gay Pride Festival today! She performed her #1 chart topping hits on the main stage along with Solange Knowles, the Cliks, and other headliners! But no one here probably cares about them. She performed Eat You Up, I Did It For Love, and her third (and probably final) single Energetic for the first time and was very nervous! It is very cool and different from the album version so make sure to listen!

Singer group Girls Generation are announcing their temporary parting with 'Sunday Sunday Night'.

The second episode of 'Cheer Up' that was aired on the 28th will be the last episode until further notice.

MBC staff mentions that they have had many meetings and discussions about whether "Girls' Generation should be recommitted into another program around mid July if possible. Nothing is final yet."

(This is an opinion piece about how black people are perceived in Korea published in The Korea Times.)

Being black has been at times problematic in my daily Korean life. Some Koreans believe what they have seen on Western TV and in movies: that black people are sexually pliant, ensconced in criminality, dangerous, uneducated, lazy, dirty, ugly and generally undesirable.

Recently, one of my professor colleagues, a Cuban-American, was asked by a summer camp recruiting agency, "Are you black? Because we are not hiring blacks for any positions this year."

I witnessed this on the phone in my office and was shocked, but not surprised. I'm filing a complaint with the Ministry of Labor in this regard.

Hagwon (English academies) are particularly susceptible to the desires of their customers. If many Korean parents find blacks unacceptable as educators, hagwon have a real financial incentive not to hire any.

This kind of rank racism is obviously disheartening, but also unveils something more sinister: Racial prejudice is not an isolated affair in Korean society, but ubiquitous, systemic, and reified by the very codes of educational institutions.

Sugapoint’s brand model, Chung Lim, filmed a music video with Joo Ah Min for a digital single album. Like 2ne1’s “Lollipop”, the music video for the song is going to be used as a CF for Sugapoint. The music video will show Chung Lim at an auto mechanics centre dreaming of becoming a car racer and Joo Ah Min at a motorcycle painting shop dreaming of becoming a showbike rider. Joo Ah Min’s boyfriend, MC Mong, visited the filming set to cheer them on.

Chung Lim is transitioning from singing to acting, as he has recently been added to the cast of SBS drama Dream, starring Joo Jin Mo, Kim Beom, and Son Dam Bi.

Having concluded their Fire promotions on SBS Inkigayo last Sunday, 2NE1 will be hoping to continue their momentum with the impending release of their new song and their 1st mini album on 1st and 8th July respectively.

Their 2nd title song after Fire will be a reggae R&B ballad called I don't care which is co-produced by YG producer Teddy and Kush from reggae group, Stony Skunk. They hope to present a totally different side and image of 2NE1 to fans after their Fire promotions.

Besides I don't care, there will be another 4 new songs in the mini-album consisting of In the Club, Let's Go Party, Pretty Boy, Stay Together. Adding Fire and Lollipop (w/ Big Bang), 2NE1's 1st mini album will have a total of 7 tracks.

DBSK (TVXQ) are in the middle of their 3rd Asia Concert Tour - Mirotic.

One of Korea's longest standing boy bands Dong Bang Shin Ki are still going strong. They performed at Impact Arena in Bangkok on the 27 and 28 June, 2009. The arena was filled with 30, 200 screaming fans. DBSK kicked off their Mirotic tour in Seoul this February and the show in Bangkok had the same stage setup complete with giant screens and state of the art sound system. Only the best for their fans right? The fans in Thailand got a good dose of their idols.

DBSK sang songs from their Mirotic album such as Wrong Number and Crazy Love. They also sang songs from their older albums Rising Sun, HUG and Balloons.

Xiah Junsu performed XIAHTIC much to the fans' delight. However, he was supposed to perform it with SHINee's Key, but the latter was busy promoting his own single Juliette elsewhere. Guess who stood in for Key? None other than Xiah's own bandmate Micky Yoochun. Fans were surprised and excited when Micky took over the rap parts in XIAHTIC.

Dong Bang Shin Ki is scheduled to perform in Japan's Tokyo Dome on the 4th and 5th of July! Watch out for them!

Pop group T-Max hit it big when the group participated in the original soundtrack album for popular drama “Boys Over Flowers” early this year.

In the past, original soundtrack albums were just a little extra something that came with a television drama. Now, however, more viewers and drama makers are starting to realize their importance and potential.

One of the most popular drama soundtracks lately has been Baek Ji-young's "Is Love a Sin?" for the SBS drama "Princess Ja-myung," starring Jung Ryeo-won and Park Min-young. Her sad ballad was made for Jung's character Ja-myung, and although the drama is not faring well in the ratings, the song is soaring in popularity, topping Internet music charts.

"We started working on the original soundtrack a year before the actual airing of the drama. We were given the synopsis of the program, and after discussions with the producer, we managed to create music and songs that were a fit for the big budget period drama," Lee Sang-ho, the music producer, told The Korea Times.

Honor Society and Wonder Girls also added support. I caught the latter, a girl group from South Korea, as they “sang” one of their songs. I’m not sure they needed the head sets until they pimped their new single after they performed it.

Korean music has gained worldwide recognition with the sounds of K-pop recording artists like Rain, BoA and Big Bang.

But now, rock bands looking for a piece of the action are launching themselves into the international scene with appearances at a score of summer music festivals the world over.

YB (formerly the Yoon Do-hyun Band), will join the Warped Tour, a popular summer rock and extreme sports festival in the United States and Canada, for its West Coast leg Aug. 15-23, according to Daeum Entertainment, the band’s management company.

Artists such as Eminem, Green Day and the Black Eyed Peas have participated in past festivals.

David Choi, a representative for Originology, YB’s American agency, says that the tour is the band’s first step into the American market.

“Starting with the Warped Tour, we’re planning various things to promote their music internationally,” he said.

But YB isn’t the only band flying abroad to reach foreign fans.

Indie groups like Guckkasten, Oh! Brothers and Galaxy Express appear on stages around the world this summer.

The four-member group Guckkasten flew to Shanghai last week for a tour of China, while the rock and roll band Oh! Brothers performed at the Singapore Arts Festival the week before that. Galaxy Express, a big name in the indie world, joined the lineup at the Fete de la Musique, an international event held on the summer solstice, June 21, in over 300 cities in over 100 countries across the globe.

“With their performing and vocal skills, Korean rock bands are very talented,” says music critic Im Jin-mo. “These days, with so many recording artists from Korea debuting in foreign countries with positive results, I think the ‘rock music hallyu [Korean wave]’ is definitely something to look forward to.”

U.S. copyright companies are demanding music royalties used in Korean-style karaoke bars as popularity of the "noraebangs" rises among Koreans abroad as well as Americans. According to Yonhap News, a copyright company sued a noraebang owner in K-town, New York City, over eleven pop songs sung by customers without paying royalties.
On June 28, the owner was charged with $38,000 in outstanding royalties and legal fee, in accordance with a court's decision, according to the report. The vendor expressed embarrassment, telling Yonhap that "I purchased commercial karaoke machines, not the home version. I did not think it would be in conflict with laws." The report said the noraebang owner paid the compensation and additionally entered into a royalty contract with the company, paying thousand dollars per year.
There are more than a hundred of noraebangs in Manhattan and New Jersey, where Korean populations are concentrated. Similar cases are likely to appear soon, the report said.

Actress Song Hye Gyo and Rain’s drama ‘Full House’ will have a remake version in Taiwan.

A broadcast company in Taiwan has announced that they are preparing to remake the drama.

A Taiwanese news portal site UDN said, “There will be a Taiwan version of ‘Full House’. It will be a production worth over 3 million dollars. It can be expected that the Taiwanese version of ‘Full House’ will rouse the interests of many even overseas.”

It is said that the male character to the remake drama will be actor Wu Zhun from idol group Fahrenheit and female character be Zhou Xun.
