Rapper ‘Jenissi’, first solo album 'Returned as disillusioned Jenissi’

Jenissi’s solo album 'True be honest’ has been released. This album is filled with stories of the times Jenissi spent alone during the one-year hiatus since Topp Dogg’s last promotion. The title track, 'Disillusion’, is a song about the promise to create music fiercely as one observes reality after falling into self-created illusion. The genuine, straightforward lyrics are dripping with Jenissi’s emotions.

In particular, Jenissi contributed to all songwriting and composing aspects of this album, while Topp Dogg members Nakta and A-Tom participated in composing and arranging, as well as featuring, respectively. With this, Jenissi took his first shot at being a singer-songwriter/artist who is capable of writing lyrics and composing as he self-nurtures through music that only he can do.
Jenissi’s first solo album 'True be honest’ is an album where he stripped away his idol image and you can feel his independent, Jenissi-style music.

Album | Jenissi [True Be Honest]

Jenissi’s solo album ‘True Be Honest’ has been released. This album is filled with stories of the times Jenissi spent alone during the one-year hiatus since Topp Dogg’s last promotion. True Be Honest | Track by Track Comment

1. Disillusion
“Disillusion" is an ambiguous expression. Firstly, it carries meanings such as “Ah, everything is different than what I thought”, “I was living in my own fantasies”, “The reality is harsher than I thought, and people are living like this”, “Stop dreaming, wake up and face the reality”. Secondly, the first image I showed to the public was an “idol” image, so the word also has an ambiguous meaning in the sense that I need to wake up from the fantasy of a mold called “idol”. The song has a strong message and tight rapping, so I chose it as my title track.

2. Bus
When I first thought about life, I thought of it as a car that we drive ourselves. I thought that knowing where I needed to go and just driving there was all, but suddenly it hit me that I still don’t know where I’m going nor why I ended up here, and I’ve personally experienced difficult times.

And like that, it’s a song that I made as time went by when I realised, “Isn’t life like riding a bus without knowing your destination?”, and even if you don’t know whether it’s God or someone else driving, you need to be able to enjoy the view in this imperfection of not knowing where to go in order to become the “true winner” (assuming happiness is the victory prize). I want people who have regrets and unresolved conflicts from the past to listen to this song, and I want to tell them to “let it go with time”.

3. Rollin’ (Feat. A-Tom)
The song 'Rollin’’, just like its title—and this may just be me—refers to how God controls company value, the value in personal connections or broadcasts. “Let’s show those people something different”: This is the real reason I barely have anyone featuring on this album. I thought of showing it through “music” only. All tracks were produced by my friend “Nakta”, and I’m not just bluffing but this song carries the meaning that we’re really going to work hard to create “good music” and put a stop to fakers with our musical skills and talents.

4. Back 2 The Sun
'Back 2 The Sun’ is a song with the message, “Let’s go back to Kim Taeyang” [T/N: Kim Taeyang is Jenissi’s real name. ‘Taeyang’ also means ‘Sun’ in Korean]. I started [this career] because I simply liked music, then I turned 26; I can’t just separate what is what, what I’m doing, what is left to be done and who I am. I wanted to search my identity for sure, and for the people who listen to this track to understand that process. That’s why I have been blindly making a list with time since I was young.

There was so much I wanted to write about, but I ended up only writing the things that left the biggest impression on me. In the last verse I said I’ve become a singer, and wrote about my experience sneaking out at dawn with my hat on and going busking blindly. Even just thinking about it is fun. Really. In the end, I was able to discover my true image. I really think that ‘Back 2 The Sun’ is a track where you might feel the human Kim Taeyang, rather than Jenissi.

5. No Problem
