Hypocritical Hallyu: International Fans and K-pop Fandom

  The K-popiverse was hit with some disturbing rumors this afternoon: an international fan of male megaband EXO, who have finally made a much-anticipated and long-awaited comeback with their single “Wolf,” reported via Twitter that she and a number of other international fans — many of whom had made a lengthy journey and waited for upwards of 12 hours outdoors — were denied entrance to EXO’s comeback stage taping for M! Countdown.  According to the fan, who traveled to South Korea from Europe, international fans were singled out by M! Countdown staff and made to stand in a separate line behind Korean fans, regardless of who had been waiting the longest.  Her final tweet stated that international fans were “kicked out” out of the EXO comeback stage on the grounds that they were “not Korean.”

Soo Hyun and Hyun Woo were pretty useless as guests but the way they kept laughing at everything was somehow entertaining? Hyun Woo is adorable ♥ Kwang Soo and Suk Jin had me in tears in the relay race. I wonder does that mat thing hurt that much?

Group MYNAME ended their Japanese nation-wide tour in huge success.
On the 27th, MYNAME’s agency revealed, “MYNAME’s first Japanese tour since their debut ‘The Departure’ attracted about 8000 audiences. Starting with Osaka on the 18th, they proceeded with Nagoya on the 19th and Tokyo on the 25th.”
With a glocalizing strategy, MYNAME launched a full promotion in Japan, and improved their Japanese skills and popularity. MYNAME made it to number 3 on the Oricon weekly and daily charts with their full-length Japanese album in March.
Meanwhile, MYNAME plans to make their Korean comeback at the end of June and are in the midst of producing their album.

Parents hire mobsters to solve school bullying issues for $2,000

There have been a rise in businesses claiming to solve all of your bullying/school violence problems for a sum of cash. When even the school and the police can't protect you, parents are desperately turning to these businesses and hiring scary looking men to protect their children.

On a news article about a parent explaining that the bullying against their child grew worse after they reported it to the police, several comments began sprouting suggesting that they hire an odd jobs service to resolve the matter with their own hands.

Curious to see what this was all about, we put up a post requesting for such services and received several contacts. One service explained that they had men with tattoos all over their arms. Once hired, they will wait for their child after school and accompany him home until rumors begin spreading around the school that the child has mobster members in the family.

Another service specializes in handling bullying from teens who are no longer students/have been expelled. They claimed that they will resort to violence but "hit them in a way where it won't show" so that charges can't be pressed. "Who do you think these iljins look up to the most? It's not the police, it's not the prosecutors. They look up to gangsters."

One service claimed that they've completed over 40 requests over the past 2-3 years and have never failed to resolve the matter once. As for the costs, it can run up to $5,000 for a month and around $1,500 to $1,800 for two weeks.

A member of a school violence victims committee said, "I can completely understand why parents would spend that kind of money to hire these services to protect their children. What I'm wondering is why we've let it get to this point and why we are still not doing anything about it."

Hyorin hinted at the ladies' comeback on their official Twitter, writing, "You waited for a long time!!!!! SISTAR's coming back with a new look on the 11th~! We worked hard preparing for this, so please look forward to it♥".

New Girlgroup "The Gloss" with a european member will debut soon. Big news: they can sing !

A new girlgroup with a European member will make their debut soon!

Their name is The Gloss and they are 4 members: Olivia from France, Grace from Chicago (Korean-American), and finally Liz and Sol-E from Korea. There is no much info about the company except the name, MGMC, I guess we have to wait for the first official press release to have more details.

The 4 girls were scouted during auditions through America, Europe and Korea, and although many auditions have happened in Europe for K-pop, this is the first time a European has been chosen to debut.
